At first glance, the Acer Aspire Go 15 AG15-31P seems like just another ordinary budget laptop, of which there are plenty on the market. However, it has its own clear value. It’s an efficient work machine that surprisingly makes good use of its 16 GB of RAM and effectively utilizes its low-power processor. With its ample battery life for a full day’s work and a quality display, the Acer Aspire Go 15 AG15-31P is a solid laptop for basic needs considering its price. Among the drawbacks, I would point out the lack of a security system—a fingerprint scanner. Constantly entering a password or PIN code can be quite tedious in modern devices. Additionally, the absence of keyboard backlighting is also worth mentioning, as it’s somewhat unusual in today’s laptops.

Having reviewed and tested lots of budget laptops from Acer, Asus, HP, and the rest, I feel there’s something unique with what Acer is offering this time around. This Acer Aspire Go 15 doesn’t feel like a cheap laptop at all. If you don’t get to see the price first, you’d think it costs almost double its MSRP, which is a good thing. Even with a few drawbacks like the grainy 720p camera and lack of muscle to run complex tasks, I still find it hard to fault this machine. After all, it’s a budget laptop and it manages to punch above its weight to include a better Core i3 processor, a premium design, a comfortable keyboard, and stellar battery life, which its budget rivals and Chromebooks fail to deliver.

I like the Acer Aspire Go 15 because it doesn't feel like a cheap laptop. If you hid the price from me and stacked it up against other, pricier laptops I've reviewed in the past year, I think there are times I'd rather have the Aspire Go 15 than something more expensive. I love the Dell XPS 15 OLED, for example, for its power, eye-catching design and beautiful OLED screen upgrade. But if I wanted to walk down to a coffee shop and do some writing, I might prefer the Aspire Go 15 because it's lighter than the XPS 15 and lasts a bit longer on battery, plus I like the Go 15's keyboard a bit more. That said, you really need to be sure you're okay with the Acer Aspire Go 15's limitations before you buy.

For the price, the Acer Aspire Go 15 is a solid pick for users without demanding performance requirements or for people who need a secondary laptop for traveling. It's also a great pick for students seeking a budget laptop to bring on campus for note-taking and completing assignments, and the device is included in our best laptops for college list. The practical list of features, selection of ports, and decent battery life give you everything you need and nothing you don't, and the laptop is well-optimized to operate within its capabilities. Additionally, at just $300, the price is right.

First and foremost, it only has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, so you can't count on having a lot of extra storage space or being able to run a lot of applications at once.

The Acer Aspire Go 15 (AG15-31P) is a nice entry-level laptop that's great for basic office tasks and studying. It can't boast of high performance or any special features, but it performs its tasks properly. The laptop has a practical appearance, a good IPS display, a full-size keyboard, and quite decent battery life. There are enough ports, and the cooling system keeps the laptop cool under any load. The only complaints are the lack of a fingerprint scanner and keyboard backlight, which are available from similarly priced competitors.

The Acer Aspire Go 15 is nothing exciting, but it has clear value. It’s an effective working machine, making surprisingly good use of its 8GB of memory and putting its low-power CPU to good use by running efficiently. With plenty of battery life to get through the day and a display that’s easy to see despite its low brightness, it’s a worthy machine for $300. It can’t put up a good fight against laptops that pack in higher-end components, but it avoids a lot of direct competition with them. That said, there are plenty of great laptops that can get considerable discounts from time to time, including plenty of Asus Zenbooks (I grabbed a new one for just $500 a while back), and with the many upgrades those machines offer, it may be worth keeping an eye out on deals for prior-year machines.

When you say a laptop looks like it costs $500, it's usually an insult. For the Acer Aspire Go 14, however, it's actually a compliment. This Windows laptop costs a mere $300 but holds its own against other budget models that cost $500 or more. The design cannot be described as enticing or exciting, but it's functional and unlikely to offend. Performance from the quad-core AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series CPU and 8GB of RAM suffices for basic use, and battery life is shockingly long. In addition to a practical design and passable performance, the Aspire Go 14 features a 14-inch display with a modern 16:10 aspect ratio. Sadly, the display's viewing angles are pretty bad, which makes for a poor experience unless you have the display positioned just so.
