Overall, then, the Acer generally falls in line with similar devices in the US. But when you take the included stylus and carrying case into consideration, it actually starts to look like a bargain.

I've used the Spin 11 every day for two weeks, for both work and play. There's absolutely nothing that would give me pause when it comes to recommending it. The new Apollo Lake chip lives up to my tempered expectations, which means all-day battery and enough power to do everything I need a Chromebook to do. I've had a lot of good things to say about the Spin 11, but here are some things i didn't like.

The Spin 13 is impressive, and one of the most versatile Chromebooks on the market. It looks the part thanks to its all-aluminium construction, the screen is fantastic, while the Core i5 processor and generous helping of memory inside make it more powerful than most other Chromebooks. It really does come down to how you’re going to use your new machine. If you’re already in bed with Google’s services – and happy to base your laptop life around them – then the Acer Chromebook Spin 13 is a fantastic choice.

I’d like to see the spin shed some weight because that’s the biggest drawback in my eyes. Perhaps a better version of the Pixel Slate is what I’m looking for provided there aren’t any major sacrifices such as a poor quality screen. The weight criticism aside, I’m really happy with the hardware delivered by Acer, the broad functionality and the user experience that I’ve had with the Chromebook Spin 13.

Don’t underestimate the Acer Chromebook Spin 311. Despite being released in 2020, it’s one of the best Chromebooks 2021 has to offer. That’s all thanks to its easy usability thanks to that fantastic touch screen, great design, and stellar flexibility – not to mention, its upgraded specs for 2021. Aesthetically, the Chromebook Spin 311 is fairly understated, covered in a matte black that’s only interrupted by a diamond-shaped pattern that adorns the notebook’s lid. Because of its restrained look, it would fit in perfectly whether you’re taking notes in class or using it in a business meeting. It’s also perfect for working on because the touchpad and keyboard are such a pleasure to use. With that said, the keyboard feels a bit cramped, probably because it’s the same size as the ones on other Acer offerings but in a smaller chassis. It took some time to adjust to it but its satisfying clicks and actuation won us over in the end.

By the way, battery life is an interesting topic on this machine. It is equipped with a 39Wh battery, which is rather decent for the size of the display. This statement was further enhanced by the 12 hours and 20 minutes screen on time during Web browsing – basically the main thing you do on a Chromebook. However, as soon as you start playing a video, stored on the onboard storage – this figure drops down to only 6 hours and a half. It is probably due to an optimization issue, but there is nothing you can do about it. At least for now.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is another sub-$300 silver Chromebook in a market swimming with them. That makes it hard to justify, especially compared to something like the Lenovo Duet, which does what the Spin 311 does better in many areas, and is even cheaper. The saving grace is the Spin 311’s keyboard, which is truly excellent. It’s not as good as the best laptop keyboards, but the fact that an 11.6-inch Chromebook is even in the discussion should speak volumes. The battery life is solid, too, and although performance isn’t great, it’s enough to handle light, day-to-day tasks.

At the end of the day, we are a little disappointed with this notebook. Yep, you have everything you need from this tablet-replacement, but when compared to its predecessor – the Chromebook Spin 311 (CP311-2H), we got a lot lower performance – both in the CPU and the GPU department. Of course, if you mainly use Docs and Spreadsheets, this shouldn’t really bother you. But if you value speed and low latency, then you might want to divert from this unit.

The Spin 713 offers a 3:2 touchscreen, good battery life and USB-C ports with support for Power Delivery. The 800-Euro (~$970) convertible is not one of the cheapest Chromebooks (in the US, the pricing is much better: $529).

Even if Acer’s Chromebook Spin 713 didn’t have its standout screen, it would be an easy device to recommend. The build quality is good, it performs very well and it should be fast enough to serve you for years to come. Adding in that 3:2 display makes it one of the best Chromebooks on the market. I wish that battery life was longer and that it had a slightly more premium feel, but it gets just about everything else right. If the price doesn’t scare you off and you don’t need best-in-class battery life, the Spin 713 is a Chromebook that should satisfy just about everyone.

Though it's a Chromebook instead of a Windows laptop, Acer's Chromebook Spin 713 wears the same "Engineered for Mobile Performance" sticker as other notebooks that meet Intel's state-of-the-art "Project Athena" standard for conveniences such as quick wake and long battery life. But beyond those important mandates, this Spin model has two other things going for it as an alternative to a Windows 2-in-1. First, at $629 at Best Buy, it's a bargain—in fact, it's cheaper than some rival convertible Chromebooks. (The HP Chromebook x360 14 G1 and Asus Chromebook Flip C436 cost about $800 as tested.) Second, like the recently reviewed Acer Swift 3, its 13.5-inch display has a squarer 3:2 rather than the more familiar 16:9 aspect ratio, giving you a taller view for text and web scrolling. Getting a 3:2 ratio in a touch-screen convertible is rare and makes the Spin 713 an appealing choice—in fact, our new Editors' Choice among premium Chromebooks, most of which cost more.

This is the more functional Pixelbook I wish Google had made this year to replace the aging OG Pixelbook. It's not as dainty, but it's a laptop that you can trust for the long haul, whether you're using it for coding and Linux applications or you just want to bang out some emails and fall down the Reddit hole for a few hours. In an age of work-from-home, it's powerful enough to keep a full productivity suite going while on a video call, but it's still got that Chrome OS simplicity and security we depend on.

In short, some people thought 2020 might be the year of the premium Chromebook, the year companies proved that it was worth paying $1,000 for a nice Chrome OS device. The Spin 713 shows that, for the majority of us, it’s still not. 2020’s best Chromebook doesn’t look like a fancy, flashy, high-end machine — it looks like this.

If you are trying to figure out if the savings are worth it over a Galaxy Chromebook or ASUS Flip C436, I’ll help you out: yes they are. This is without doubt my favorite Chromebook of 2020 because of all that you get for your money and how long it will likely last you. Functional, fast, and durable make for a compelling package all around and I’m glad to recommend anyone looking for those things in a Chromebook to go and buy the excellent Acer Chromebook Spin 713.

Here is a recent Chromebook from Acer, this is a powerful unit more than capable of running Chrome Apps and that also means Android Apps – although some may look a little strange with the swap from portrait to landscape – so things that you use every day on your phone can now be viewed that little larger in your living room as well as on the road.

There’s some temptation to damn the Spin 513 with faint praise. It’s not particularly fast and nearly everything about it is solid rather than spectacular. Yet, when you look at what you’re getting for the money – a slick, slimline design, a decent screen, respectable performance and battery life – it’s an attractive proposition. And, arguably, it’s more usable and versatile than most other sub-£500 devices, Chrome OS, Windows or otherwise. With a bit more speed, a little more RAM and more storage, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 would be a truly great Chromebook but, as it is, just good is good enough to be getting on with.

For parents looking for a serviceable Chromebook for grade-school students, the Spin 311 will fit most budgets while also giving kids the ability to play Android games after they have finished their last Zoom class and Google Classroom assignment of the day. So who is the Chromebook Spin 514 for? It’s priced at $499 for the base model here in the U.S. at Best Buy, which includes the Ryzen 3 3250C, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC flash storage. Acer also offers configurations of the Spin 514 including 8GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage for $529, and the model we tested with the Ryzen 5 processor retails for $599. Between the incredible keyboard experience, the versatility offered by the rotating hinge, and the MIL-STD 810H rating, this would make a wonderful Chromebook for a student. 14-inch displays are kind of the sweet spot for productivity, as 11-inch displays are just too small, and anything larger tends to be too heavy to carry for long periods of time. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is really the complete package, and if you can get over the potential frustrations with the trackpad, then we would definitely recommend it for just about everyone.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is a well-built machine that is more durable than many Chromebooks thanks to the MIL-STD rating. It can handle drops and other abuses and come away none the worse for wear. This makes it ideal for people who are frequently working or studying on the go. It also happens to be attractive for such a durable piece of tech, particularly in green. It is held back some by the AMD Ryzen 5 processor and battery life, of that there’s no question. The speakers could be a little better, too. At least it has a solid selection of ports, a good trackpad, and a good keyboard. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 will best serve people who need a rugged machine, but who don’t need a top-performing laptop. The Spin 514 is a horse of the slow and steady variety, a working animal rather than a thoroughbred racehorse. It gets the job done at its own pace.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 fails to deliver in too many regards to be worth its $599 asking price. While standout Chromebook hardware is almost an oxymoron, in this premium price range, it is reasonable to expect more and we’ve even seen that from Acer itself with the Chromebook Spin 713. If you can find it on sale, there are reasons to recommend the Spin 514; the keyboard is one of the nicest I’ve used on a Chromebook, the durable chassis means it can hold up to being tossed in a bag and taken everywhere (although the 3.64 pounds makes that less enticing) and the performance is above average for a Chromebook. It doesn’t belong in the upper-echelon of Chromebooks as would be suggested by its retail price, so if you are swayed by the things that it does well, then I’d advise holding out for a sale before you pick up the Spin 514. And while you wait, take a hard look at the best Chromebooks; I promise you, there are better options out there for less.

We waffled between giving the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 three-and-a-half or four stars on our five-star scale before deciding that its relatively rare and convenient inclusion of a full-size HDMI port tipped it into four-star territory. It doesn't bump its Spin 713 sibling from Editors' Choice honors because of the latter's squarer 3:2 screen and solid-state storage, but if you watch a lot of videos or otherwise prefer the more common 16:9 aspect ratio, it's a flexible and successful Chromebook.

So when you combine all this into a single package for an MSRP of $614.99 and regular updates until June 2029, you quickly see why I feel this is one of the more-compelling Chromebooks available right now. You get great mobility out of the thin/light chassis and high productivity with the large screen and power under the hood. The Acer Chromebook Spin 513 provides a compelling balance of performance and battery life. It’s neither the fastest Chromebook you can buy nor the longest-lasting, but it’s a Chrome OS 2-in-1 that doesn’t force you to compromise. t's not difficult to work out the most compelling features of the Acer Chromebook Spin 513: it's reasonably affordable, it's lightweight, and it has a screen that can fold right over into a variety of positions. If those are the features that you've been looking for, and you think that Chrome OS (with a side helping of Android apps) is able to take care of all your computing needs, then this laptop is worth some serious consideration. Overall the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 looks good, works well, and is competitively priced compared with other models – and speaking of the price, you more or less get what you pay for. As the sum of its parts, the Acer Spin 513 is an impressive deal for most Chromebook users. If you need a Chromebook for school or basic browsing and media consumption, this is a solid option to consider. The display is excellent for the price, you get a nice backlit keyboard, glass trackpad, and an ultra-portable design. Battery life is also excellent in practice, making this a great machine for school or for use while traveling. There’s no doubt that in terms of value, this is one of Acer’s best Chromebooks. On the other hand, enthusiasts and power users should probably stay away from this laptop. Performance is bad enough that you’ll be disappointed if you need to perform demanding tasks with your Chromebook. There are devices at this price point with better performance, but they’re also missing some of the extras I mentioned earlier. If you can’t live with that tradeoff, you might need to spend a few extra bucks to get a more premium Chromebook like the Galaxy Chromebook 2.

With an excellent screen, a solid keyboard and a great trackpad, the outer package of the Spin 513 earns it’s asking price. While the speed of the Snapdragon 7c isn’t amazing, it isn’t a deal breaker at this price at all. With so many users happy with the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, I think the same value proposition applies with this Spin 513. With a very approachable price tag, users will get a great overall Chromebook for the money, enjoying perks not usually present in affordable devices. Because of this, I can easily recommend the Spin 513 if you are after a thin, light, ultra-portable Chromebook and aren’t after break-neck speeds. It’s a solid laptop for the money and I’m hopeful that over time, the Snapdragon 7c gets some kinks ironed out and gets far better with Chrome OS and Android applications across the board.

The first Chromebook with the Snapdragon 7c processor is a lightweight laptop in every sense of the word. While the battery will last you all day with ease and the screen looks good, the processor is a little lackluster, with Acer focusing more on efficiency than raw power.

Acer has crafted a competitive Chromebook in the Spin 513, which slots into the middle of the market and has plenty of fight in it to take on other Chromebooks. It boasts a good display, a solid keyboard and trackpad combo, and excellent battery life. A few small things hold it back from true greatness, but you'll find few Chromebooks that offer as many features and as much value at this price point.

Long battery life and the lightweight chassis make the Acer Spin 513 a good option for road-warriors or those with long commutes. A few glitches mean its stablemates might be a better choice.

This is one of the new breed of Chromebooks that give you much more functionality and even allows access to the Google Play Store and that also allows you to link to your Android phone. In fact it bears little resemblance to an early Chromebook that did not even have the ability to store things offline. This should really be considered a totally new category of product.

If you're looking for a moderately powerful machine to do work on, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a good fit, assuming you don't need the full application support Windows 11 offers. It has one of the nicest screens I've seen on a Chromebook, and the build is strong and robust and feels like it'll last a while. Plus, the keyboard and trackpad are a joy to use. As for what's going on under the hood, it's surprisingly powerful. You expect peppy performance. So long as you don't mind that it's a bit on the heavier side and that it doesn't come with a stylus included, then this is a solid option.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is absolutely one of the best Chromebooks out there right now with a combination of performance, design quality, and battery life, but the lack of an included stylus is downright strange for a 2-in-1 and the design takes few aesthetic risks.

The $699 Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a solid Chromebook with a lot going for it. It is definitely more of a power user device given the hardware it’s running. You could also make the argument that it is overpowered for a Chrome OS device given that most of what the operating system is designed to do can be accomplished with much less expensive hardware. For a student or professional that may want to dabble in Linux or test their Android or web apps, this hardware definitely fits the bill. That said, if you’ve already experienced Chrome OS and are enamored with it (or want to take it to the next level), you can’t go wrong with the Chromebook Spin 713. It truly has a lot going for it, including it’s fantastic screen and solid build quality. It has every port most users need on a day-to-day basis. It also has class leading performance, making it great for business users, students and the home tech enthusiast.

So that’s the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 in 2021. It’s fast, it has all the internals you could want, all the I/O you could want, and what I consider the best screen available on a Chromebook right now. Aside from a bit of a boring aesthetic, average keyboard and battery life, and bad speakers, this Chromebook smashes it on so many levels. Putting together a review for a great device like this is easy. At $699, this Chromebook delivers what you expect in a high-end laptop at more mid-range prices. It’s so easy to recommend, and though it will likely be on sale at multiple points between now and the end of the year, even at MSRP, it is 100% worth the money. Acer’s done it again, and now it’s up to everyone else to catch up.

You don't mess with a winning formula. Acer was content to juice up its new Chromebook with the latest-generation Intel Core processors and Thunderbolt 4 ports that'll work with better accessories, including some Macbook ones. The Spin 713 still has one of the best screens on the market and has eight full years of Chrome OS updates ahead of it.

The stable of high-end Chromebooks keeps growing, and you might not be able to distinguish one from a Windows counterpart at first glance. Among the newest is the convertible 2-in-1 Acer Chromebook Spin 713, which was just updated for 2021 with new internal components and some Chromebook firsts. Namely, the Chromebook Spin 713 is now the first Intel Evo-certified Chromebook and the first Chromebook to offer full Thunderbolt 4 support. Acer sent me a midrange version of the Chromebook Spin 713, priced at $700 for an 11th-gen Intel Core i5-1035G7 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD), and a 13.5-inch display in the taller 3:2 aspect ratio and with a 2K (2256 x 1504) resolution. That’s not cheap for a Chromebook, but the price fits the components. Note that you can spend more if you opt for a Core i7 and 16GB of RAM. Does the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 have what it takes to compete with the latest and greatest Chromebooks?

Acer has a winning combination on its hands with the Chromebook Spin 713. This convertible offers top-notch performance, one of the best screens we've seen this year, and flexible port options in a toughened chassis that withstands abuse. Battery life could be better, as could the speakers, but overall the Spin 713 has it where it counts.

Acer's new 2021 Chromebook Spin 713 has a lot going for it. Decent performance, good hardware, and lots of ports meet a roomy screen that's closer to 4:3 than 16:9. We love this aspect ration for productivity, writing, and web browsing, and the tall screen allows for a roomy trackpad. The downsides are a chunky case, and only so-so battery life, but we still feel this is one of the better Chromebooks out there.

To illustrate just how much this device is offering for its $699 price, look to the premium Google Pixelbook Go. To buy a Pixelbook Go with an 8th Gen Core i5 (which is now an old chip), 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage (half of what you get in this Spin configuration), you’d be paying $849. The Pixelbook does have some advantages over the Spin, of course: you’re getting better build quality, a lighter chassis, and slightly better audio. But the Pixelbook has no biometric authentication, it has very few ports and doesn’t support Thunderbolt 4, it’s 16:9, and it’s not a convertible. It’s miles behind in almost every other way.

Basically, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 lives up to Intel's Evo verification. It wakes instantly, it's just as responsive on battery power as it is plugged in, has a long battery life, charges quickly and, with Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6, it has fast wired and wireless connections. The two-in-one design is useful to have, especially when using Android apps. There's no pen support and it's a bit thick in tablet mode, but overall I find Chrome more enjoyable with a touchscreen. Even if you only plan to use it as a laptop, I'd still recommend it. The Spin 713 feels like the first glimpse of the next 10 years for Chromebooks.

Acer's new Chromebook Spin 514 feels like a winner. It has a mostly aluminum design backed by a MIL-STD certification, a decent 14-inch display, a great keyboard and a 1080p webcam that takes shockingly good photos and videos. The laptop is thin enough to take on the road, and its 2-in-1 design gives the flexibility folks desire in a Chromebook. I do have a few worries as we near its official launch. Chief among those is pricing. At $699, the Chromebook Spin 514 isn't exactly a budget option in the realm of Chromebooks. And that model likely comes with a Core i3 CPU. It'll be interesting to see how much this particular unit costs because it's the config I'd personally choose. My only other worry is battery life, which is rated at 10 hours. If it hits that mark, then all is well. If it drops below 10 hours, then it opens the door to other competitors. Despite those potential downsides, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is shaping up to be a compelling mid-range Chromebook for those who need a 2-in-1 laptop.

Despite my complaints about the pricing, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is a darn good laptop. It's got nice, smooth performance, even when I had two windows and about 20 tabs open at a time — plus an Android app, because Freecell helps my brain stretch after hours of writing. The up-facing speakers mean you can hear your music or Netflix episode even when curled up on the couch, and the display's good enough to binge on. This laptop would be the perfect couch companion — if it weren't $700. Once this laptop goes on sale in North America next year, give it a month or two for the sales to come in. Once this hits $550 or below, the price will match the value, and once it's in your hands, it should be a great Chromebook to last you for years to come. If you need one right now, though, you'll want to head over to our best Chromebooks for something you can buy right now.

There is a lot to like about the Acer Chromebook Spin 311. It is generally well constructed and despite is plastic heavy design, does not feel cheap. It is also relatively affordable at R7 999 (RRP), with the only real downside being the fact that the 11.6″ HD display feels a little undersized if this notebook is made with the entry-level enterprise and education space in mind. The rotating screen is not a compelling enough feature to use daily either and should be viewed as a key selling point. The Chromebook Spin 311 then, serves up a solid Chrome OS experience, but may not be the best representation of what that environment is all about. The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is a solid enough Chrome OS-powered notebook, but is lacking some oomph in certain areas, with the size of the display being a notable own. If you have room in your budget for a larger Chromebook within the Acer family sans rotating screen, it may be worthwhile looking there instead.

Overall, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W-503Z) offers excellent performance for a Chromebook laptop. While some apps and games won’t run, the laptop delivers in both productivity and entertainment very well. However, with its price tag from RM3799, it is in direct contention with other entry-level to midrange laptops so this laptop is probably only for you if you have good all-round Internet connectivity and like to work with Google’s Chrome OS. If you’re a Windows user, the learning curve may be a bit too demanding or your usual apps may not work the way they used to, even if the Spin 713’s tech specs beat out the hardware of most Windows or Chromebook laptops in this price range. Like most Chromebooks and other Android run devices, how well you work depends a lot more on the apps you’re using than the actual hardware. While the hardware on the Spin 713 does ensure smooth performance, you’re still going to lose out on certain features, for example for Photo and video editing or other applications that traditionally run on a PC.

Acer hasn’t reinvented its flagship Chromebook here, but I’m not sure it matters. The Chromebook Spin 713 remains a superb Chrome OS convertible and there’s nothing to gripe about: especially now that the great screen is now partnered with enhanced connectivity and improved performance. In short, it’s still a classic. If you’re in the market for the latest, greatest Chromebook, it needs to be right at the top of your list.

We considered cutting the Chromebook Spin 713's rating from its previous 4.5 to 4 stars because of its $70 price increase and slight heft, but decided its enhanced performance, doubled solid-state storage, and Thunderbolt 4 support merit keeping the half star. So does its status as a nearly flawless Chromebook choice—except for being a smidge heavy, it's a first-class convertible for productivity, creativity, and media enjoyment, with a 3:2-aspect-ratio display that'll spoil you for old-school 16:9 panels. The Acer isn't cheap, but Chromebooks don't come any better than this.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 looks to be a very reasonably priced laptop that would work well for anyone who is currently in school or after a simple productivity device. While not as high end as the Chromebook Spin 714, it should be more than capable of browsing the web, sending emails and writing up documents. Other than my issue with Netflix – which I assume will be ironed out before the product’s official release – I liked the screen and felt that it gave me a crisp and clear image while I was watching YouTube. I do hope that Acer can remedy the flimsy chassis as it may put people off using this as a portable and hybrid working device, which is supposed to be its primary use case.

With so many Chromebooks offering low-grade plastic frames, that all-metal design is appreciated for its good looks and ruggedness. And while we are sad to see Acer jettison the microSD card reader, the Spin 714 offers an ample-for-a-Chromebook 256GB SSD that helps offset the lack of easily added internal storage. We like the new 14-inch, 16:10 display that offers a great balance between work and play, and the addition of a garaged stylus addresses one of our chief complaints about the Spin 713. Any 2-in-1 should let you carry a pen with you for those times you want to take more natural, hand-written notes or doodle a bit. The Chromebook Spin 714 is appropriately priced at $729 but would be a major steal at the $499 sale price we've already seen pop up once this year.

I don’t want to brush past how much extra power the Spin 714 has. The silent fans and cold plastic were very much a noticeable improvement. This likely remains one of the most powerful Chromebooks — if not most powerful devices — you can buy for $729.99. But what makes me sad is that the Spin 713 used to be that. The Spin 713 blew its competitors out of the water with benchmark scores. But it was also great in so many other ways. It had a great screen. It had great battery life. It had a great port selection. Really, the only thing to complain about was the subpar audio (which remains subpar on the 714). The Spin 714, by contrast, mostly has the powerful specs going for it. And while that power certainly keeps it in the conversation, it is not at all the slam-dunk purchase that the 713 was.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 challenges my natural distrust for any Chromebook that costs over $500, mostly thanks to its excellent display, speedy potent performance, and business casual styling. I find myself enamored with the Spin, and happily using it to quickly push documents and binge-watch video content. The stylus was handy, worked wonderfully, and allowed me to quickly take handwritten notes and sketch during my downtime. The Spin 714, is an excellent choice for remote workers, teachers, and students on a budget who want a Chromebook with enough oomph to easily handle consistently having over 40 tabs open while working.

At the moment, the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is one of the best productivity Chromebooks available. It might be a little buttoned-up as far as its overall design goes, but it is made for durability. Otherwise, you're getting great performance and battery life, a good display, a dockable stylus and strong connectivity and conferencing features. It's even available at a reasonable price if you get it on sale. But not everyone needs all of this in a Chromebook, and there are more affordable options on our list of the best Chromebooks. That includes Acer's Chromebook Spin 513, which is a fanless version of the Spin 713 with the same 13.5-inch, 2,256x1,504-pixel touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

If you're looking for a Chromebook that doesn't try to do anything too fancy, while still being plenty powerful, the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 might just fit the bill. Between the 16:10 display and garaged USI pen, this is the perfect Chromebook for taking notes, getting work done, or playing games.

Like other 12th-gen Intel-powered Chromebooks, the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 gets regular updates until June of 2030, so you can feel good about knowing that if you choose to snag one of these, you can plan on holding onto it for quite some time. Sure, devices like the HP Dragonfly have literally everything you could ask for in one device, but they also command huge price tags. With a starting price of $729, the Spin 714 will only see discounts from this point forward, and in this price range, the Spin 714 is a real contender. When you compare what you are getting in the box to something like the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook, the value proposition for this Chromebook is very high. You don’t get the 12th-gen Core i5 and 256GB of storage on the cheap, and when we put those impressive internals inside a device with an aluminum chassis, great keyboard, screen, and included pen, I start to better understand what Acer was aiming for with this Chromebook. I’ve loved my time with it for sure, and I’d bet many of you will as well.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 seems to be a reasonably priced laptop that would work well for those in education or those wanting a machine to browse the web, send emails and write up documents. Other than the issue of glitching while running YouTube, I loved the screen; plus, I’d imagine such issues will be ironed out before the Spin 714 is properly released. If this is the case, this could also be a great device for binging Netflix. I also hope that Acer addresses the flexible chassis before final release, since the concern may put people off using the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 as a portable or hybrid device, which is supposed to be its primary use case.

With the 2022 Acer Chromebook Spin 513, the company opted to switch over to the new MediaTek Kompanio 1380. It packs an impressive punch, but you'll likely run into limitations sooner than other offerings in this price bracket. But it still offers a great value, even while being stuck with just one configuration.

Acer has crafted a competitive Chromebook in the Spin 513. It slots into the low-end of the mid-range and has plenty of fight in it to take on other Chromebooks in the market. In the plus column, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 features a well-built, 360-degree spin design that makes the laptop more useful than a standard clamshell. Acer did a good job with the 13.3-inch Full HD touch screen. The keyboard and touchpad combination kept pace with my input demands, and the large battery delivered long-lasting life. In the minus column, some might chide Acer for selecting the Snapdragon 7c silicon. It’s not the most powerful processor on the market, but it managed to push through day-to-day computing tasks with no problems. I’m more disappointed by the meager 4GB of RAM on the base model I reviewed and the lack of expandable storage. Another USB-A or USB-C port might have been nice too, and the 720p webcam is definitely not up to snuff for dedicated video callers. Despite all that, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 is a fine machine for the money.

All in all, if you’re considering Acer’s Chromebook Spin 513 (2H), chances are you’re looking for a Chromebook that can nail the fundamental aspects of a laptop well, without breaking the bank. If it’s all-day battery life and display quality you’re looking for, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 delivers these key features in a slim and light form factor. If you want to save a few dollars though, consider whether the display and slight performance boost are enough of a justification for picking up the 2H variant over the Spin 513 (1H) (~$400-500), which at the time of this writing is still staying in the lineup at a reduced price.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 513 looks superb, and it’s thinner, lighter, and thriftier than its rivals. It’s got a reasonable screen, components that can deal with everyday tasks, and all-day battery life. It easily switches position, and it’s worthwhile if you want an inexpensive and compact hybrid for all-day working – even if it does falter when it comes to build quality and connectivity. If you want to go beyond those tasks, though, we wouldn’t recommend the Spin 513. Instead, consider the Spin 713 and Lenovo IdeaPad – they cost a bit more, but they’ve got much more power and better screens.

If you plan to run demanding applications, you probably want a Chromebook with an AMD Ryzen or Intel Core CPU and a true SSD instead of eMMC flash storage. But if you'd like a lightweight 2-in-1 for everyday online time and Google Workspace productivity plus a little sketching or annotating, the Acer Spin 513 is an appealing, affordable option. If it came with a stylus and an HDMI port it'd earn an Editors' Choice award. Even without them, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 is a nifty, affordable way to enjoy the benefits of a 3:2 aspect display.

Acer’s Chromebook Spin 513 is defined by its display. The 13.5-inch display’s uncommon 3:2 aspect ratio and sharp resolution add up to a surprising amount of usable screen space. It’s perfect for browsing the web or editing documents—which are the tasks Chromebooks are best suited for. The excellent display is supported by great battery life and an enjoyable keyboard, but it’s not all good news. Audio quality is disappointing, the touchpad is just average, and performance doesn’t stand out (though game performance is decent). These problems hold the Chromebook Spin 513 short of greatness, but it still remains a good option for ChromeOS fans who want a big, attractive touchscreen with tons of usable space.

With best-in-class performance and a generous 13-hour battery, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (2023) emerges as a standout choice for those seeking a versatile and high-performing Chromebook. Its aluminum MIL-STD 810H construction ensures durability, while the AMD Ryzen 5 processor inside delivers all the power you need. The inclusion of an excellent full HD webcam and relatively current connectivity options further add to its appeal. While the arguably dated 16:9 aspect ratio, missing Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and cheaper eMMC storage are slight disappointments, they don't overshadow the overall excellence of this device. Ultimately, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (2023) excels in both productivity and battery life, making it a compelling option for users in search of a reliable and powerful 2-in-1 laptop, and our new favorite Chromebook for most people, earning it our Editors' Choice award.

It only took me a week to test the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (2022) as it was clear from the get-go that it's a capable machine for many types of users. Probably the longest part of my testing was our battery test, which took all day. The rest of the week I spent using it as my main device. To put it through the paces, I used it for work, writing up emails and articles, using it for research, and handling social media platforms. I also used it to stream movies and shows. I also ran it through our suite of benchmark and battery tests. I've been testing and reviewing computing devices, including laptops and Chromebooks, for years now, first as a freelancer for different tech publications and now as one of the Computing editors at TechRadar. I'm a regular laptop and Chromebook user myself.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is a sticker shock waiting to happen. For $700, you’d hope this 2-in-1 would feature a higher-quality display, a faster processor, or more memory. The Spin 514 feels like yet another Chromebook: A productivity-focused, entry-level device that normally shouldn’t run you more than $500. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly laptop, you’ll save about $80 or more by going with this Acer Aspire 5, which boasts twice the amount of storage and a faster, 12th-gen Intel processor, although it’s not a 2-in-1 and it runs Windows 11, not ChromeOS. If you prefer ChromeOS, you can go even cheaper with this gaming Chromebook from Lenovo for about $170 less than the Spin 514 and it has the same processor as the Aspire 5. An equally durable yet better-performing 2-in-1 is the HP Envy x360, which will run you about $200 more but will offer a faster experience. If the Spin 514 were a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, we might be able to recommend it. At the time of publication, this Chromebook is on sale for $575, but we still wouldn’t pay that much for it, Maybe closer to $500 we could recommend, but it simply isn’t a memorable laptop, and for $700, you’re probably looking for something you’ll love, not just tolerate.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is among the quickest Chromebooks currently available, defeated only by alternatives with Intel’s Core i5-1240P processor (and it’s a close call). The Spin 514 also benefits from a great keyboard, nice touchpad, attractive display, long battery life, and useful USB-C ports. Pricing is the obstacle. The Spin 514’s price tag of almost $700 feels expensive when compared to Windows laptops. The Acer Aspire 5, Lenovo IdeaPad 5, and HP 14 offer similar processors at similar prices but have more RAM and solid state storage. The Spin 514 is available in less expensive configurations, however. They’re a better choice for most people, delivering most of the Spin 514’s perks with a modest (and acceptable) reduction in performance.

There’s a lot to like about the Spin 514. It’s a well-designed and competent Chromebook with good performance and a decent screen but there’s nothing about it that really shouts “buy me”. With faster models now emerging that have equally good, if not better quality displays, you’re better off choosing something else. Acer’s Spin Chromebooks have been some of my favourite Chromebooks I’ve tested in the last few years, and this new Acer Chromebook Spin 514 variant is a decent option for those wanting a convertible Chromebook. It provides an especially sleek-looking chassis as well as a tactile keyboard and massive trackpad, alongside decent levels of power and battery life too. The display on offer is decent, although it may not spring any surprises. Then again, it doesn’t necessarily need to, given the fact this is a Chromebook after all. Where this Chromebook falls down is more on the fact its port selection is a bit stingy – a second USB-A would’ve been nice, as would a 16:10 aspect ratio on the display, and a better keyboard backlight. But for £499, this is a decent choice if you want a Chromebook that also doubles as a tablet of sorts.

The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 has a better-than-expected display, an excellent keyboard, a sophisticated design, and military-tested durability. However, the screen brightness isn't that great, the sound quality is mid, and the battery life could be better. On the plus side, there's a laptop for everyone. I'd recommend the Chromebook Plus Spin 714 for budget-conscious users who are looking for a laptop that can be stationed on a desk at home. Acer didn't rock the boat too much when it comes to the Chromebook Spin 714 (2023). It has plenty of power thanks to Intel's 13th Gen processor, and you can already enjoy all of the new Chromebook Plus features. For the money, this is the best Chromebook that you can buy. But, Acer also decided to get rid of the stowable USI stylus, and there's still no fingerprint scanner. The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is a decent ChromeOS 2-in-1 that fails to stand out from the crowd. It’s attractive, offers an excellent keyboard, and includes plenty of connectivity. Battery life and performance are mid-pack, however, and the laptop’s $699.99 MSRP feels a bit steep for the hardware on tap. In fact, I actually prefer Acer’s older Chromebook Spin 514, which has a larger touchpad and longer battery life, over this model. There’s nothing particularly wrong with the Spin 714, but nothing particularly right, either.

There are areas in which you could argue the Spin 714 falls behind its predecessor, particularly the lower-resolution screen. Yet overall it still succeeds as a powerful, well-designed Chromebook that can handle hard work, chats and meetings, collaboration, and a little entertainment after hours. It's slightly more expensive than your average Chromebook, but the great build and quality screen are both worth paying the extra for. This is the new champ of reasonably-priced business Chromebooks, and very easy to recommend for enterprises of all sizes.

Sure, we’d like a higher-resolution screen, but in every other respect the new Spin 714 is the Chromebook to beat. The display is still fantastic, its performance and battery life are stellar, and it’s great to use both as a working laptop and a versatile browsing and video-streaming device. The bundled stylus is excellent, and the keyboard and touchpad don’t let the side down, either. While the Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flex gives it serious competition, often at a slightly lower price, I’d say the Spin 714 is worth the little extra. Unless you want a bigger screen or an even slimmer, lighter design, this is the premium Chromebook to buy.

At a starting price of $699 (it’s been on sale a few times already), the Spin 714 makes a compelling case as one of the best Chromebooks you can buy right now. While not a huge overhaul from last year’s model, this Chromebook builds upon the great foundation already laid by the last Spin 714. It might not be revolutionary, but in a marketplace that often pushes for radical change, there’s something to be said for steady, thoughtful iteration. Acer has focused on refining their Spin 714 lineup, and the result is a device that feels meticulously crafted and well-considered. In short, they nailed this one.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 comes in two builds (three if you count the US-only model), the cheapest is the Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD model for around $549 / £599 while the model reviewed here, and one I'd recommend, is the 12th-Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and 512GB build. The US-only 13th Gen Intel Core i5 is exceptional value, and hopefully this, and a price cut, will come to the UK soon. If you're interested in getting a powerful ChromeOS laptop that will last you through college, the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is a good buy. If you're hooked on Windows or Apple then you'll probably happily pay around $400 / £400 for, say, a 2022 MacBook Air. But the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 will last, and Google's suite of apps feature everything you need to get through basic college tasks.
