While many people buying gaming laptops will have their eyes set on the most expensive systems out there, Acer continues to deliver for those whose budgets are a bit more restricted. The Acer Nitro 5, like its predecessors, continues to serve as a solid, entry-level offering for folks who want to game on a PC seriously. Sure, the display and speakers aren’t as great as more expensive options, but they’re competitive with other budget and mid-range laptops. Perhaps the biggest issue is the amount of software Acer has jam-packed on all its Nitro 5s. Some of it’s useful, but in general, it’s bloatware that people buying this laptop won’t need, and may spend a few hours uninstalling. Overall, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58-525P is a solid gaming laptop for its price.

It should be noted that no gaming laptop is perfect; the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58-57Y8 is the same, it is not without its faults. Every product will come with some quality compromises, as manufacturers have to cut certain corners in order to keep costs down. Still, if you’re looking for an affordable laptop that can handle your gaming and school-related needs, then this 15-inch gaming laptop should certainly be on your list of contenders. With its upgradeability, powerful components, and impressive Wi-Fi 6 performance, it is sure to offer good value for money. Plus, the fact that you can swap out RAM and add a second NVME drive or 2.5" SATA drive is definitely a plus.

The Acer Nitro 5 remains a solid option for affordable gaming thanks to its decent speeds, updated chassis and satisfying keyboard, but if you’re willing to shop around then you’ll find other notebooks with faster processors, better battery life and bolder screens – all areas where the Nitro suffers.

The Acer Nitro 5 is your bread and butter cheap gaming laptop. It primarily has its strong performance going for it, but a lot of the other features aren’t rocking so well, especially the display and the battery life. It’s tough to recommend another laptop because you’ll ultimately pay more, but if you really want more battery life, snag the Dell Inspiron 16 for $1,199, and you’ll get 8+ hours of usage. But overall, what the Acer Nitro 5 has going for it the most is its price, so take advantage of that by looking for it to pop up among the best gaming laptop deals.

The Acer Nitro 5 (2022) is an excellent option for anyone looking for a budget gaming laptop, considering how the current market demand for more affordable gaming PCs and laptops has soared in recent months. For the most part, the Nitro 5 is one of the best cheap gaming laptops around thanks to its great performance, offering a well-rounded gaming experience for its price point. In terms of specs, the Acer Nitro 5 sports some beefy specs for a budget machine, which means it runs most games at 30 FPS at least with maxed-out settings and much higher under more reasonable settings. The screen is a 15.6-inch display with thin bezels to maximize the space but unfortunately no anti-glare, which means it’ll be that much harder to game when you’re outside in direct sunlight. The keyboard is simple but smooth and easy to use, with wide keys and a tenkey numpad on the right side. It’s also backlit for easy gaming in the dark or dimmer lighting. The touchpad is also smooth and very responsive with no noticeable input delays.

The new Acer Nitro 5 doesn't top any benchmark charts, but at $899 there's not much room for complaint. The system is one of the least expensive modern gaming laptops, while offering a good components and features baseline. Take the screen and storage. A 144Hz display has become today's minimum expectation in any gaming machine, but it is still nice to have at this price, and there are plenty of ports, too. The 512GB SSD will fill up quickly with large game installs, but even pricier systems often have no more storage in their base model configurations. If you're concerned about consistently hitting 60fps at top settings, you should probably opt for an RTX 3060 machine like the MSI Katana GF66, but the Nitro 5 remains an attractive, affordable alternative.
