If deeply discounted, the Acer Swift 14 would earn a thumbs up; it's a capable ultraportable that escapes generic status thanks to sleek design and a high-quality IPS display. But at $1,399.99 list, it's a tough sell against rivals with vivid OLED screens: Not only is Acer's own Swift Go 14 just $1,099.99 as tested, but the Swift 14 is crushed between two Asus laptops—the AMD Ryzen-based Zenbook 14 OLED, only $869 as tested, and the half-pound-heavier Zenbook 14X OLED, which for $100 more than the Acer offers not only a superior 14.5-inch screen but a faster Core i9 processor, double the RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce discrete GPU.

Between its sleek and sturdy all-metal design, crisp 14-inch high-resolution touchscreen, and strong 13th-gen Core i7 performance, and long battery life, the Acer Swift 14 is an ultraportable of envy. And, it’s cheaper compared to the comparably-equipped Dell XPS 13 Plus or Apple MacBook Ai M2, when selecting the same amount of RAM and storage onboard. It’s that notable price difference that helps make up for the Swift 14’s underwhelming sound quality and undersized touchpad. If you’ve not considered Acer in the past for a serious productivity laptop, then the Acer Swift 14 (SF14-71T-74RF) is here to change your mind.

How does the Swift 14 measure up to the other Swifts—the Go and the X? Well, I have not tested either, but on paper, the Go is the less stylish, less design-focused option—which, curiously, offers an OLED screen option the Swift 14 does not have. The Go might be worth a closer look if you don't care about the design styling of the Swift 14 or if you just want an OLED screen. The Swift X is for those who need more power, since it adds a dedicated graphics card. Given that the Swift X is only $100 more, that would probably be my pick out of the three, although battery life might be worse.

However, did Acer really have to permanently put "Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass" in the top-left corner of the lid, just above the display? It's distracting and annoying. Even more annoying about it is the fact that none of the promotional photos on Acer's site for the Swift 14 show the text. All-in-all, the Swift 14 delivers on its portable and powerful promise. There are a few small things I'd like to see improved, such as the size of the trackpad, but overall the Swift 14 is a worthy contender for a business user or student.

The Acer Swift 14 is a star laptop — it has everything you could possibly need ready to go outside of stuffing a discrete graphics card inside. That would be wonderful, but what we do have is great enough, especially thanks to that super bright 14-inch display and impressive 1440p webcam. However, if you’re looking for something a little bigger with a little more battery life, you can’t go wrong with the LG Gram 16 — it’s even lighter, too. But overall, the Acer Swift 14 is a tough customer to beat — it’s going to be difficult to find another display as bright at this price point.

The Acer Swift 14 (SF14-71T-74RF) is an excellent midrange laptop, with the latest 13th-gen processor, a sleek design, solid battery life, and a crisp 1600p touchscreen. It’s surprisingly good for productivity and creative work, but it comes at a lower price than most competitors.
