The Swift 7 isn't a gimmick; it's a solid notebook with a gorgeous display, a premium design and surprisingly long battery life. But don't let me mislead you, the razor-thin chassis is absolutely the reason you should buy the Swift 7 rather than another ultraportable laptop.

Between a touchpad that doesn’t click to its aging, fanless processor, the Acer Swift 7 is an absolutely gorgeous Ultrabook – the ‘world’s thinnest,’ in fact – that we simply can’t recommend in a sea of laptops that are far more powerful and not much thicker for the same price or less.

Acer's Swift 7 (2018) is an engineering marvel, among the thinnest and lightest laptop PCs. But subpar performance and a poor typing experience make it uncomfortable to use.

The updated 2019 version isn’t launching until May, though. Right now, it’s hard to recommend the current iteration of the Acer Swift 7. It’s certainly a joy to behold, and to carry from home to work. But then the problems set in. We’d lower its review score as a consequence of its poor performance, certainly. Its fatal flaw, however, is the poor keyboard and even worse trackpad.

One of the latest batch of notebooks to come on the market from Acer and not only is it powerful but has the absolutely latest version of Windows 10 that is V1809. Another of the recent inclusions is just USB ‘C’ ports on the unit. However for those that still need standard USB2 and USB3 an adapter unit is supplied in the box to attach.

Despite its beauty, and the fact it's so light you can almost forget you're carrying it, the Acer Swift 7 is all style and little substance.

Extremely thin and it manages good battery life. But let down by a last-gen CPU and a touchpad with no click.

Although very slim and nice-looking, the Acer Swift 7 isn’t the most portable laptop around, while also underperforming compared with rivals.

Adding a bigger screen to a thinner body makes the Acer Swift 7 feel like the rare high-design ultraportable you can really use all day long.

The Swift 7 isn't as powerful as you might expect from a laptop costing well over £1,500/$1,500, so if you're looking for a professional-level laptop capable of running high-end graphics or design software then there are options available with more compute power.

Acer's Swift 7 is the slimmest ultraportable you can buy, a trait that pairs well with its 4G LTE service. You'll pay a major premium, though, for those features.

Acer has upgraded its high-luxury Swift 7 in several key ways, but has been forced to detract from the experience in similarly key ways to get there. Will these arguably brave decisions result in a better, stronger laptop in the end? Only a full review will tell.

The Acer Swift 7 is a show-off laptop, even if its moody obsidian black finish doesn't make it look like one.

Overall, Acer's Swift 7 is an impressive bit of kit. It's got some pretty decent specs for such a tiny and lightweight device, but those who were hoping to take advantage of Intel's most efficient chips yet might be best holding off before splurging on the Swift 7. Especially considering it'll retail for a rather ridiculous starting price of $1,699, which is around £1,250 (plus VAT).

The Acer Swift 7 for 2018 might not be perfect but it's an amazingly thin laptop that will no doubt be a great choice for those looking for a travel companion. We'd like slightly higher specs at this new higher price but you do get a Core 7, larger touchscreen and a fingerprint scanner. Check back for a full review soon.

The Acer Swift 7 has lots of competition thanks to the bevy of ultraportable laptops available, though having an older seventh-gen processor is a knock against it, especially at these prices. Its high price tag may dissuade those shopping on a budget, but the laptop will surely catch the eye of anyone with cash to spend who's interested in a fancy new machine.

The 2018 Acer Swift 7 slims down an already slender and impressive laptop, adding 4G connectivity, more power and a keyboard backlight to improve over its predecessor.

The Swift 7 is a seriously impressive laptop - it’s practically as thin as a smartphone, but has enough power to run all your desktop jobs smoothly.
