The lack of weight and the larger screen are the main selling points for this unit, certainly walking around with it either in or out of a bag works better than with heavier units would, and the extra screen resolution is another plus. A good indication of speed is the time it takes to reset before return and here its only 15 minutes a record for units I have reviewed.

The new Acer Swift Edge’s key attributes are its excellent UHD display, feather-light 1.17kg weight and decent selection of ports. The LG Gram 16 (£1,549) features a better keyboard, and the MacBook Air (£1,549) feels a more premium machine; both offer better battery life, but neither the LG nor Apple machines can match the Acer’s stunning 283dpi OLED display. The performance advantage from the Acer’s AMD chipset is marginal, but it’s nevertheless an advantage – which, combined with its other strengths, makes it our new recommended super-light laptop.

The Acer Swift Edge provides excellent performance and screen real estate for its weight, making it one of the best options if you need a laptop that’s as light as possible for travelling but don’t want to compromise on what your laptop can do. However, compromises have been made to get to its super-low weight. Typing isn’t a great experience and the use of a plastic touchpad grates at this price. It’s hardly a surprise that the speakers are no real use for music, but the relatively poor battery life could well be a deal-breaker. Obviously, we didn’t test the Swift Edge to destruction, but durability is a concern given how much this laptop flexes. While Acer has likely achieved its design goals here, the sacrifices made to get there make it hard to recommend the Swift Edge unconditionally. So if you want to know which laptop you should buy, then take a look at our roundup of the best laptops and also our review of the LG Gram 17 and Huawei MateBook 16s.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is light and pretty, but shallow everywhere else. A laptop is supposed to be an all-around package for a PC experience, but there are a few items missing in this package. If you want longer battery life in a big display, consider picking up the Inspiron 16, which is only $100 more and even comes with a discrete graphics card. However, if you want to prioritize a big, colorful 4K OLED display, then the Acer Swift Edge 16 isn’t a bad choice.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is a thin and light marvel, but it's not a perfect machine. Its performance is only middling, while its keyboard, touchpad, and speakers are frankly letdowns for the price. Still, the laptop's screen and light weight are remarkable, so if portability is a priority it may prove a decent value (especially if you can get it for less than the list price). However, too many other laptops are competitive in pricing, performance, and similar display chops—particularly the HP Pavilion Plus 14 and the Dell XPS 15 OLED—the for this Acer to approach Editors' Choice honors.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is an excellent all-around laptop with a strong CPU and plenty of RAM. Creative software runs well, and the 16in, 16:10 OLED screen is bright, sharp and colourful. It may lack the graphics power for 4K gaming or heavy 3D rendering tasks, but is exceptionally light and portable thanks to a frame made from an aluminium-magnesium alloy covered with a black plastic casing. If you’re working with multiple apps open, or want to do image editing on the move, the Acer Swift Edge 16 is a capable tool.

The Acer Swift Edge looks interesting. The laptop flaunts a great and aesthetically pleasing design, with its lightness and thinness playing a major role. The assembly is excellent and the quality of the materials is pleasing. The display is another advantage, because the 16-inch OLED screen here is unbeatable. Content makers will definitely benefit from it. As far as performance is concerned, it’s adequate and fully in keeping with the positioning of the laptop. The device is perfectly adapted for office workload, unpretentious work with graphics, and some games will “go” on it. However, you should not rely on serious rendering, work with 3D and voracious graphics software – the hardware will not pull it off. Which is a shame, because that’s what the screen seems to be designed for. The Swift Edge also has a weakness in terms of battery life. Understandably, the limitations (both in terms of hardware and battery capacity) were the price Acer paid to create the lightest 16-inch notebook ever. But this was also reflected in the cost. In my opinion, while there’s not much competition among 16-inch OLED devices, the Acer Swift Edge’s price tag isn’t the most balanced. However, those looking for a beautiful and lightweight laptop with a large, impressive screen, and still on a budget should like the Swift Edge. In other cases, what it offers for its price might not seem enough. The Acer Swift Edge looks interesting. A 16inch notebook that does not weigh that much, it also does not feel that much larger when you move around with it. Unlike a lot of such devices I get to review this one has an AMD processor, this one runs at 2.7GHz. It has 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.

The Acer Swift Edge is a fierce answer to Apple’s latest M2 MacBook Air models, an ultra-thin and ultra-lightweight laptop equipped with super-speedy components and a gorgeous display. The understated design and variety of physical ports make this a powerful productivity machine, held back only by a keyboard that really ought to be bigger.

Go ahead, find another 16-inch 16:10 laptop that’s thinner than 0.55 inches and lighter than 2.59 pounds. We have yet to encounter such a machine. The Acer Swift Edge makes for an easy commuting companion with a screen that’s large enough to work and multitask on all day. And better still, the display is a 4K OLED panel that delivers a gorgeous image. We’d argue for a slightly thicker and heavier chassis if it meant the lid behind the display was a bit more substantial and the keyboard deck allowed for keys with deeper travel and snappier feedback. As currently constructed, however, the Acer Swift Edge offers an unmatched combination of screen size and portability.

The Acer Swift Edge has two big selling points: its supreme lightness, and its beautiful 16-inch 4K display. So if you want a large screen for entertainment and productivity, and you plan to be on the move a lot, it's a good choice. On the downside, there's no Thunderbolt 4, and the battery life and audio are decidedly average. But overall, it's a strong performer, both for general computing tasks and for running resource-intensive creative software.

There are likely plenty of people who want a large laptop with a spectacular display for productivity and media consumption, but they don’t want to lug around a bulky, heavy machine. At least, that’s what Acer hopes. For those people, the Swift Edge is a remarkable laptop. It’s incredibly thin and light, and yet it provides solid productivity performance, good enough battery life, and an awesome visual experience. That justifies the premium price of $1,500, and I’m happy that it doesn’t cross the $2,000 barrier, where it would be too expensive. There aren’t many other laptops like it, so if it fits your performance requirements, there’s little reason not to consider the Swift Edge as your next laptop.

The OLED display is the Acer's best component: this 16in panel is bold and immersive, with superb colours and a high resolution. If you want a display to make everyday tasks and creative workloads pop, this screen will get the job done and then some. Elsewhere, though, the Acer stumbles. Its chassis is slim and light, but not sturdy, and its keyboard is disappointing. The low-power AMD processor is effective, but the battery is underwhelming, and the Acer has some missing connectivity features and annoying software. The superb screen and decent processor make the Acer Swift Edge an effective lightweight workhorse, but for the same cash you could have the robust and longer-lasting LG Gram 16 if you're happy enough to forego the OLED tech.

The Acer Swift Edge packs a fantastic screen that definitely elevated all of my viewing experiences thanks to the OLED and 4K technology. It’s very lightweight and easy to carry, and the large 16-inch screen makes working with multiple tabs open very easy. There are some drawbacks: the battery is serviceable but pales in comparison with other 16-inch laptops. And while the performance is relatively consistent, it does have a habit of faltering if you push it too far. But all in all, this is a great laptop to watch video content on, and it worked well as a productivity device. It’s more expensive than some other portables, but I personally think that the amazing screen makes it worthwhile.

The keyboard is the weakest part of the laptop, however. A few of the keys, such as the Caps Lock, Ctrl and Shift, are smaller than usual and threw my typing off for a bit until I adjusted. It's just weird, given how much space Acer has to work with on the keyboard deck. Plus, the keys felt slightly off, as if a few of them were higher than the rest. It could just be that I have an early production sample or a symptom of having such a thin base beneath it. Again, I adjusted to the feel, but it could be better. The large touchpad, on the other hand, was responsive and felt good, with a pleasingly smooth finish. It has an antimicrobial coating, too. If you're tired of working on a small laptop screen but don't want to lug around a bulkier, heavier laptop to have a bigger display, the Acer Swift Edge solves that problem. It has strong performance for its class, decent battery life, a helpful selection of ports and fast wireless, plus a beautiful OLED screen to boot.

The Acer Swift Edge is meant for those of you looking for a lightweight ultrabook with an awesome full-size OLED display. Acer designed this to be the lightest 16-inch laptop of the moment, and that meant some corners were cut. The build quality, IO, and inputs haven't been sacrificed, and this is overall a versatile option for everyday use and multitasking. However, it could have been better if Acer weren't chasing that lightweight medal, and instead would have put a more complex cooling module inside this chassis, as well as better speakers and a larger battery.

Hopefully, I've illustrated the high points and drawbacks of the Swift Edge in a way that will help you decide if its skills and deficits suit your needs. I believe the ideal owner would be someone who will fully exploit the larger, 4K display. If you'll constantly struggle with the shorter battery life, or you're just doing basic productivity work, all of those pixels will just go to waste. However, if you're a content creator producing photos or videos at 4K resolution or a content consumer who wants your streaming video to look its absolute best, you'll savor all this OLED panel has to offer. You'll also need to plug in from time to time to keep that work or entertainment uninterrupted, albeit not for long thanks to the included 65W charger. There are laptop options that will get you a little closer to having everything, but you'll need to shell out about $500 more, and even then you'll leave behind things like a 4K display. This fact alone makes the Swift Edge an excellent, budget-friendly option for the shopper who needs a solid, workhorse laptop with one of the best 16-inch displays I've seen in a laptop under $2,000.

Overall build quality is top-notch, though, and there’s no shortage of connectivity. If your laptop never leaves your side while you’re on the move, and you want as big a screen as possible, this absolutely deserves your attention. A sumptuously slim laptop with a stunner of a screen. AMD power delivers on performance and battery life, too. The Swift Edge is purpose-built for hybrid workers who don’t want to be weighed down by their tech.

The Acer Swift Edge has a lot more personality than most of the other laptops I’ve tested, featuring striking colour options and boasting a jaw-dropping 1.17kg weight despite its 16-inch screen size. That large 4K OLED screen is also a great addition, especially with such a reasonable starting price. The LG Gram 16 has long been our favourite on-the-go 16-inch laptop, but the Acer has all the specs required to usurp it. From my brief time using the Acer Swift Edge, it was fast and offered a good performance, and I think that it will be best suited for those who need to take their laptop to and from work or school. I don’t believe it will be fit for gamers or creatives due to the lack of a discrete GPU. Be sure to check back with Trusted Reviews soon, as we will be reviewing this laptop in full over the next few weeks so you can see if it manages to break into our best laptop ranking.
