外星人回来了。我们没能得到测试Alienware 15 R3(Skylake+Pascal)第一代的机会,这次终于在它得到Kaby Lake更新后可以测试它的表现。这台15寸设备在竞争中能够取得什么样的位置呢?

The Alienware 15 probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but it puts out incredible, desktop-level performance. Even with a GTX 1070 the Alienware 15 handled everything I threw at it with aplomb, and did it while still fitting inside a normal-size backpack. Barely fitting, but come on—I’m trying to be charitable here.

The Alienware 15 R3 packs in an NVIDIA GTX 1070 along with an Intel Core i7 6700HQ. Although, this isn’t the retail unit, it is pretty close in terms of performance. Alienware has certainly improved the build quality of the gaming laptops with added rigidity and ease of access for customisation. The lid doesn’t extend as far back as most other gaming laptops and you don’t get an SD card reader. Performance wise, we’d like to mention that you should be getting a 240 W power adapter with the unit should you decide to get one. The 180 W adapter does not do any justice to the performance capabilities of this machine. Most laptops with a GTX 1070 cost around 1.7-1.8 lakhs.

Unless you're spending a whole lot more by going the custom build route, or want a desktop-thrashing SLI setup, this is still our pick of off-the-shelf gaming machines you won't break your back with every time you take it on the move.

The bottom line? Well, the privilege of owning an Alienware notebook comes at a big price and we mean that literally. To be honest, you won’t be getting better specs or performance compared to the much more affordable Acer Predator 15 or the ASUS ROG GL502VS but it will definitely reflect on the overall user experience. Build quality, the inclusion of 3x M.2 SSD slots and conditionally better cooling system are probably the things that stand out the most when someone brings up the Alienware 15 R3.

The Alienware 15 R3 is an incremental update over the previous generation but offers the power and refinement that gamers on the go will love. It’s a big and heavy beast but, if you don’t mind the weight, it’s a potent laptop that can do it all.

The Alienware 15 is almost everything you could ask for in a midsize gaming laptop. It's a stylish, powerful machine with the latest GPU architecture, Intel's new seventh-gen CPUs and a fantastic build quality -- it's just a little large for a machine of its class.

The Alienware 15 R3 ranks as one of our favorite 15.6-inch gaming notebooks. The gaming-centric nature of this machine is clearly evident, from its futuristic design to its excellent gaming performance. The end-user customization on this model is head-and-shoulders above many competing brands, such as MSI and Acer. For starters, the Alienware 15 R3 is factory-configurable from its base $1,199 config, up to the $2,274 of our tester, and more than a grand beyond that. After purchase, you can continue customizing with the AlienFX lighting system. AlienFX is a main selling point for this notebook. Most gaming notebooks that we test with configurable lighting of any kind—and that narrows the list considerably—usually have just the ability to turn the lighting on or off. On the Alienware 15 R3, you have 12 separate lighting zones, completely configurable the way you want. AlienFX also integrates into games.

The Alienware R3 is a worthy upgrade on its predecessor, slimmer but more powerful than before, with a stylish design and sturdy high-quality construction. You get plenty of premium features including custom lighting and copious storage, but these add up to a pricey proposition relative to its gaming power. The HP Omen 17 offers the same graphics card and similar performance across the board, plus a 4K screen, for $1,799. With its plastic build, it's not as high end, but it remains our midrange Editors' Choice for threading the needle on performance, features, and price. If you like the R3's top-notch feature set and design, but can't afford the price tag, consider configuring a less expensive version.

The Alienware 15 R3 is a gaming laptop that is hard to beat. It has as much power as any of its mainstream rivals, and has lighting that is both eye-catching and customisable, but can also be switched off when you’d rather let you laptop slip into the background. It’s very well-made, the keyboard is great and the frame has some connections you sometimes only see in a laptop dock. However, its omission of a memory card slot is odd, the fan system is fairly loud and while hardcore gamers may appreciate the use of (in some models) a TN display it doesn’t do pure image quality many favours. As usual with an Alienware machine, you can find similar specs for less money from value-driven alternatives from, for example, PC Specialist and the HP Omen range. Its price is competitive with its direct rivals, the Acer Predator and Asus RoG series, and this is easily the slimmest and classiest-looking of the trio.

The Alienware 15 has a sophisticated new look and a new Intel Kaby Lake processor, but subpar battery life hinders the overall experience.

To sum up the Alienware 15 R3 gaming laptop with GTX 1070, it’s a solid option for those looking for a portable powerhouse for gaming. The only caveat and issue for me is the 120Hz screen wasn’t really stretched in our testing; not one of the games we tested managed to hit 120fps at maximum settings. This makes the 120Hz a little pointless in games other than those less intensive and having a Gysnc enabled screen makes all the difference to those wishing to avoid screen tearing. Everything was great in all honesty and the Alienware 15 R3 is a solid option for those wanting a GTX 1070, but still want all the benefits of being able to game on the move!
