Reviews for the Amazon Fire 7 2019
After two years Amazon has given its Fire 7 a small hardware update. Not only the SoC has been improved; the manufacturer has also jazzed up the front camera. But buyers shouldn't expect too much. Find out how the Amazon Fire (2019) fares among its competition in our review.

This Amazon Fire 7 review has shown that this is the best tablet at its price point, and will be enjoyed by many who haven't ventured upwards into the more expensive slates. Its comparatively speedy performance and long battery life will made it a solid consumption device. Unfortunately, Prime Video and Netflix marathons deserve a brighter screen, and we wish we could drop the ads (without paying) and add in YouTube and the rest of Google's apps.

The Fire 7 remains a budget tablet that, while far from perfect, is hard to really criticise for the £50/$50 price. If you want a cheap slate to watch movies on long flights or give to the kids without worrying about it getting damaged, this is a strong pick.

Ultimately, Amazon hasn’t messed with a winning formula here. The simple upgrade from the base 8- to 16GB is very useful as it means you can have enough apps installed without constantly seeing the ‘Storage full’ error, or finding that apps have been uninstalled automatically to save space. It’s worth going for the 32GB version if you can afford to, as 16GB will still fill up quickly.

Looking for a tablet to read a book on in the shade, watch the occasional YouTube video and order some shopping? At $50/£50, you can't go wrong with the Amazon Fire 7 (2019). But if watching movies or reading in sunlight are priorities, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

While this 7-inch tablet's hardware could be faster, the design could be more exciting and the battery life longer, that would detract from the amazing bargain that the Fire 7 is. It's easy to recommend for anyone looking for a tablet for kids - as it will survive the rough and tumble of kids, meet entertainment requirements, and provide a nice safe space to play too.

The Amazon Fire 7 offers relatively responsive performance and long battery life, especially for a cheap tablet. Unfortunately, the slate could use a brighter display, still packs ads, and lacks YouTube and the rest of Google's apps.

When it comes to tablets that cost this little, it's hard to expect major improvements, even if it is has been two years since the last update. However, the Fire 7's small refinements, like last year's Fire HD 8's minor updates, aren't terribly exciting to write about. So, like I said before, the Fire 7 is about as good as you get for a $50 tablet, particularly if you're a Prime member, but the Fire HD 8 is the better deal.

Amazon's $50 Fire 7 tablet for 2019 features minor hardware upgrades, but not enough to recommend over the Fire HD 8 for all but the most budget-conscious buyers.
