There really is no other way to go if you’re looking for a low-cost 10-inch tablet. Amazon has this end of the market well and truly cornered. If you can live with the fact that it’s a very clever vessel for selling you more Amazon products, then there really are very few reasons not to buy one. And if you would be happy with buying a smaller screen size instead (and saving some money in the process), then you should head over to our review of the 7-inch Amazon Fire 7 tablet review, a What Hi-Fi? 2022 Award winner.

In closing, the affordable price means that the Fire 7 Tablet will definitely have performance limitations. If all you need is a basic tablet for media consumption, entertainment and a casual game every now and then, then this might be suitable for you. The solid construction, availability, and pricing will make this a nice piece of tech for little kids, or someone who just needs an inexpensive entertainment device. Keep in mind that it also come with ads, so you have to pay a bit of extra if you wanna get rid of the ads altogether. However, power-users and enthusiasts might want to avoid this though, and spend a bit more for Apple’s compact 6th-Generation iPad Mini, or Samsung’s Galaxy Tablets, which have much nicer designs and better software features. But for the bare essentials, the Amazon Fire 7 Tablet is here for your consideration.

Samsung has nailed the hardware and concept of this series in the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The look and feel of this device are great while bringing its cutting-edge form factor to consumers. I just don’t know that it’s a one-to-one replacement for the modern smartphone. There are just enough compromises and drawbacks that make it hard to recommend unless you just want the ability to fold a phone. The Z Flip 3 doesn’t hold the same value add as its larger sibling. If you are a potential buyer who still wants this device, you can snag it from your local AT&T right now. The cost is subject to current discounts and promotions if leasing, but the full price will set you back $1,000.

In truth, the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) isn’t a huge upgrade. But then, in the absence of much serious competition, it doesn’t really need to be. No other low-cost tablet comes anywhere near it in terms of sheer value and, with a small uptick in both performance and stamina plus a reduction in slenderness and weight – and no price increase – the Amazon Fire HD 10 retains its status as our Best Buy 10in tablet. If you’re in the market for a tablet with a big screen but you don’t want to splash out on an iPad then it’s a very good choice indeed.

I sound like a hypocrite with the rating I just slapped down, but if you want or need what each part of the bundle provides, why the heck not? Buy the darn Fire tablet for playing videos or reading ebooks. Maybe you'll use the wireless keyboard with it. Maybe you'll pull it from the folio and use it with something else. That's the magic of Bluetooth after all. The same thing goes with the Microsoft 365 subscription: who said you had to use it exclusively with the Fire HD 10? We're not the Fire OS Police (ha). You might as well use Office on something more responsive. If you aren’t familiar with Fire tablets, they can provide the same basic functionality as your smartphone on a larger screen. And with Amazon’s brand at the forefront, there are certain things I’d do here that I wouldn’t on most other tablets like read an ebook or watch Prime Video.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is a good choice if you want a basic tablet to stream movies, join calls and access Alexa. However, the Fire OS and Amazon’s Appstore leave something to be desired.

You might as well use Office on something more responsive. When it comes to the bundle, I’m plainly unconvinced. The parts don't make the whole that Amazon intended to sell you on: that a Fire tablet is meant for work. But if all this is about driving sales where they don't exist today, the unintended, maybe even perverse incentives each item presents may attract some people. And some's better than none.

Amazon’s lineup of Fire tablets has settled into a familiar routine: they are available in small, medium, and large; they are priced far lower than comparable iPads; and they are mostly good for reading and watching movies or TV, with content likely supplied by Amazon itself. The company doesn’t update them as often as their competitors, sometimes going a few years between upgrades. This year, the large model, the Fire HD 10, has gotten a refresh, bringing a redesigned body, better performance, and a host of new configurations you can choose from when buying it.

The Fire HD 10 is still a quite competent tablet. As this Fire HD 10 (2021) review has shown, it has a bright and crisp display and excellent battery life (plus the ability to recharge with the same cable you may use for your laptop or phone). If you're willing to spend more than twice as much on the $329 iPad, you get a much faster and snappier experience, a slightly brighter screen and all the apps you could ask for. But you're getting slightly less battery life, and with that kind of money you could buy two Fire HD 10 (2021) slates, one for you and one a relative (so you don't have to share). The better call, if you think you'll be irritated by slight lags in performance, is to spend an extra $30 to get the $179 Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus, arguably the best Amazon tablet ever. That said, the Fire HD 10 (2021) is still going to be great for the folks who are looking for a device to casually peruse the internet and read e-books and watch video. It's just a matter of how far you're going to push it.

One of the most affordable Android tablets happens to come from Amazon -- the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet is so well priced, but also so well measured in order to reach that lower cost. But if you're a big Amazon Prime user, it might be perfect companion because it can actually pull double duty as an Echo Show screen!

Affordable and versatile, the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) is a great choice for a family tablet. Steer clear if you’re not an Amazon Prime member, and you don’t plan to be, as the tablet itself is very focused on Amazon products. It’ll be best suited to those with Prime membership who want a simple tablet for streaming TV, casual web browsing, light gaming and reading books. Having Alexa built-in is really handy, especially in Show Mode and the decent battery life is something worth knowing about too. Although it may not look or feel as sleek as more premium tablets, when it comes to value for money, it doesn’t get much better than the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021).

Of course, working on a small keyboard and display could be a sacrifice you’re not willing to make. Ultimately the experience is a compromise and well behind what you can expect from a budget Google Chromebook, let alone a laptop or Microsoft Surface. But that’s not the biggest problem: it’s that there just aren’t enough productivity apps here: you’ll have to use Google, Slack and others via the web browser, which is far from ideal.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) has more memory than the 2019 Fire tablet but otherwise matches it for battery life, display, apps and price, making it more update than upgrade. It's more suited for casual media consumption than hardcore productivity, and continues to have a disappointingly limited app library.

The 2021 version of Amazon's Fire HD 10 packs all the performance you need for web browsing, content consumption, and smart-home management. Amazon's limited app selection keeps it from broadly competing with general-purpose tablets such as Apple's iPad, but if you don't mind the Fire's limits, you'll find the new model very satisfying. This review covers the core feature set and capabilities of the Fire HD 10, 2021 edition. We also have separate reviews of the Fire HD 10 Kids and Kids Pro, the Fire HD 10 Plus, and the Fire HD 10 Productivity Bundle and Plus Productivity Bundle, all of which add features and accessories to the base model. One of those may be a better option for you if you need its specialized assets, but the $150 Fire HD 10 is our overall top pick of the bunch and our Editors' Choice among sub-$200 tablets.

Then there's the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro aimed at older children (6 to 12). It has a sleeker, less padded case, a new app store, a web browser, and the ability to make voice and video calls. The app store is locked down and limited in selection, but you can expand it to include other apps like Minecraft. The kid-friendly web browser comes with built-in parental controls, which can be used to filter out sites, only allow certain sites, or disable the browser entirely.

For $219.99 (or $249.99 for the Plus version), the combination of a decent tablet, an acceptable keyboard case, some nice roomy cloud storage, and the ability to use Microsoft Office on your primary computer looks like a really good deal. But the whole thing is soured by the lousy Amazon Appstore, which repeatedly gets in the way as you try to find the apps and services you need. Lenovo’s Chromebook Duet, our Editors' Choice for a 2-in-1 Chromebook, costs a little more ($257.59) right now, but if you don’t need the Microsoft subscription, you get a lot more all around: 4GB of RAM as opposed to the Fire HD 10's 3GB, 64GB of storage as opposed to 32GB, and Google Play. If your work requires anything more than typing words into a Microsoft Word document, go with the Duet and leave this "productivity" bundle on the shelf.

Amazon just released a new version of their top performing tablet with a 10 inch display. This one isn't that much different than the prior version it replaces, but the Plus edition might offer some useful new features.

The 2021 editions of the Fire HD 10 tablet continue to offer a lot of bang for your buck, with large HD screens, more RAM, and even wireless charging options with the HD 10 Plus. But what takes the Fire HD 10 line to the next level is the Productivity Bundle, which turns the affordable tablet into a part-time productivity powerhouse.

Like all of Amazon's recent tablets, the new Fire HD 10 has hands-free access to Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, which means Alexa is always on, listening for your voice commands like an Echo speaker does, though you can turn the feature off and mute the microphones. While Fire tablets don't have the array of microphones that Echo speakers have, when you dock the Fire HD 10 Plus in that Anker wireless charging dock, it essentially functions as an Echo Show, automatically entering Show Mode when you dock it.
