What does that extra RM500 get you then? Well you lose a little bit of screen size sure by going down to a 14.2-inch display, but that’s a Liquid Retina XDR display that’s not only a higher resolution but much brighter too and has the ProMotion 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. You’ll also find slightly better speakers, a longer rated battery life, significantly better I/O with HDMI and an SD card slot, and while it’s the same Apple M3 chip, there’s active cooling too for better sustained loads. Now I’m not saying that the 15-inch MacBook Air M3 is a bad laptop, far from it in fact. This is a yet another brilliantly built laptop from Apple.

All in all, after using the MacBook Air 15-inch M3, I can’t imagine going back to a smaller screen. The expansive display enhances productivity and makes both work and entertainment more enjoyable. The combination of its lightweight design and powerful performance creates a seamless user experience that most certainly meets my daily needs.

Well, folks, most of the things that we said about the 13-inch model also apply to the Apple MacBook Air (15″, M3) in front of us. This machine is super thin for a 15-incher, and the weight is low as well. Just like most Apple machines, the design is clean and modern. No complaints regarding the build quality, the aluminum chassis is solid. The keyboard with its good key travel and clicky feedback is great for usage and the same can be said for the sizable and smooth touchpad. Pick your configuration carefully because the memory and the SSD are soldered. Here, even the base configuration features 16GB of unified memory which should be enough for most people. If you plan to use this laptop until it gets obsolete in terms of hardware power, the 24GB RAM configuration isn’t a bad idea if money isn’t a problem.

There are people like my mother for whom a base 13- or 15-inch MacBook Air M3 would be fine for now. She mostly writes emails and watches movies with her current MacBook, but since the memory can’t be upgraded later, it’s worth spending an extra $200 to extend its usable lifespan by several years. Most high school students and humanities majors can get by with the same, too, but again: anything less than 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage is not ideal, especially in the long term. The MacBook Air is still one of the best laptops you can buy for general-purpose use, and since you can’t completely avoid Apple’s upgrade funnel, spending an extra $100 to get the M3 instead of the M2 is small potatoes compared to how far the upgrade funnel could take you. If you have an M1 Air or earlier and are fine giving up the wedge shape, you’re going to have a great time with the M3 Air, as long as you upgrade the memory. And maybe the storage. Or maybe spend even more to get the Pro instead.

The 15-inch M3 MacBook Air may seem like a simple refresh, but as someone who owns the M2 MacBook Air, I’d definitely trade it in for the new-generation model. Our testing shows that the M3 MacBook Air is about 20% faster, give or take, than the M2 MacBook Air, particularly when it comes to creator-focused workflows. In other words, expect zippier performance, whether you’re a fledgling video editor or a photo-editing hobbyist. The 15-inch M3 MacBook Air continues to blur the line of the Air and Pro models, providing ample “oomph” for creatives, professionals, and students who need robust performance that can handle their multifaceted workflows.

After having spent the last two weeks with the MacBook Air 15 M3, it's safe to say that this is another excellent laptop from Apple. While I can see a clear performance difference between the M3 Air 15 and my M2-powered daily driver, I would still caution that most M2 owners can likely hold out for an M4 upgrade in the future. If money is no object, then by all means, go ahead, but realistically a couple of seconds shaved off opening an app isn't worth the cost. However, I think this is an easy upgrade recommendation for anyone on an M1 or Intel-based MacBook Air. You are looking at not only a massive performance boost but also stepping into the more modern Air design, which crucially includes MagSafe 3, allowing you to use both Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports while charging.

With a 15.3-inch display, the 'Big Air' in Apple's MacBook line-up has a simple sales pitch: it's a MacBook Air, embodying everything typically slim, light and portable about that, except it's got a bigger screen. And now it's got more power, too, thanks to the M3 chip inside for this 2024 release. So what are the compromises? Well, it costs more than a 13-inch model, as you'd expect. I've also seen minor battery life decreases in my tests compared to the previous model. And that in-screen notch may continue to divide the crowd. But the more I use the 15-inch model, the more I want it as a desktop replacement. Happy as a long-time MacBook Air 13-inch user, which is great for portability, the larger-screen MacBook Air still maintains a small footprint and lightweight design all considered – truly delivering on that 'Air' name.

The fact that it's hard to find something wrong with the MacBook Air 15-inch M3 tells you a lot about Apple's mid-range laptop. You get very strong performance from the M3 chip paired with super long battery life, a great display, and a sturdy, lightweight design. Competing Windows laptops with Intel Core Ultra 7 processors offer a bit more raw processing power, but they're not in the same league as the 15-inch Air when it comes to endurance. As for AI, I think the Neural Engine inside the 15-inch MacBook Air has a lot of potential to make you more productive using a new wave of AI tools — especially when it comes to generative AI photo editing and creation. But the M3 is not that much of a leap over the M2 in this department.

The MacBook Air is a great laptop, especially for users who prioritize mobility. Thanks to Apple silicon, it can handle whatever task you need to do, whether it’s as simple as using a word processor while being online with a gazillion Safari tabs open, or a bit more complex with iMovie and GarageBand, or pro-level work with a video production tool or software development. If you are still(!) using an Intel MacBook, I enthusiastically encourage you to upgrade to an M-Series laptop. If you upgrade to the M3 MacBook Air, you’re going to love-love-love the performance and perhaps even kick yourself for waiting so long. I realize that some users are in a position where their dependence on Intel is based on tools that are an absolute necessity, but if you can find an alternative that’s M-series friendly, see what you can do to adopt it.

The new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops have arrived with the latest Apple M3 processor. Not only are these notebooks the most powerful MacBook Airs yet, but they’re also the most affordable M3 MacBooks. As great as these devices are, however, you might not need one — especially if you own or price out the previous M2 models. Let’s look at reasons to buy or skip based on my MacBook Air M3 review.

The MacBook Pro 15-inch is in my opinion the perfect blend of portability and power of all of Apple's laptops. The M3 silicon keeps things speedy and efficient.

Sometimes I struggle to explain why someone might choose a larger, heavier MacBook Air 15-inch over the super-light and thin 13-inch version. It's an especially difficult conversation because, aside from size, there are no functional differences between the new Apple MacBook Air 15-inch (M3) and equally-new 13-inch M3 model – and while you're here you'll also want to check out our in-depth Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M3) review. Aesthetically, they have the same design. MacBook Air left the wedge look behind a couple of years ago (and officially canceled it this year with the removal of the M1 MacBook Air) and now sports a flat and still pleasing slab look. Both MacBook Airs are made of recycled aluminum and an anodized midnight black finish that does a decent if imperfect job of repelling fingerprints (space black on the MacBook Pro hides the prints a little better).

Apple’s second slash at its larger MacBook Air finds itself in a different environment than the first did during its 2023 launch. The Windows-loyal competition gets increasingly faster at catching up every year, and this year it appears to be nipping at Apple’s heels, thanks largely to Intel Core Ultra. The new 15-inch MacBook Air is still an excellent deal that scales well in price for more multitasking capability or storage space, but key rivals have proved to be competitive on performance and price, namely systems like the MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo. Of course, Apple’s go-to defenses against such comparisons are build quality and reliability, and those hold up here. However, this was a missed opportunity to shore up those defenses with some design tweaks, like an SD card reader or more USB ports, at the very least.
