85% Apple 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro review: Our first taste of M2
Source: Hardware Zone English EN→zh-CN
There are two ways to look at this new updated 13-inch MacBook Pro. One is that it’s an affordable way to get into a “pro-level” MacBook. The other more cynical view is that it’s not a very terribly exciting update. There’s loads of evidence to support both viewpoints. An M2 MacBook Air with 10 GPU cores and a similar amount of memory and storage is only S$30 less. So one way to look at things is that for just S$30 more, you could get the top-performing off-the-shelf MacBook with Apple's newest M2 chip. And if you can get by with less storage, the 256GB version of this new updated MacBook Pro is just S$1,879. That means you can get all the performance of the new M2 chip for well under S$2,000. Surely that has to be considered a bargain.

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) comes with Apple's latest M2 chip and offers excellent performance and battery life. However, there's no new design here, and with the new MacBook Air snapping at its heels, this laptop feels a bit redundant in some aspects.

The M2 SoC is a clear upgrade over the M1, however, the rest of the laptop stays exactly the same as the 2020 version, so if you want anything more than a performance increase, you should wait a bit for the release of the new MacBook Air.

Which leads me to the second question: should you buy it? If you must have an order in today, then yes. If you’re currently on an Intel MacBook (which I assume you are if you’re already looking to upgrade), the jump to the M2 will be huge. (I don’t even have to run benchmarks against older Intel systems — this machine is faster.) You’ll get all the benefits of the M1 that we raved about in 2020 plus some extra performance and extra battery life. And the caveats that the MacBook carried in 2020 with Rosetta performance penalties and various programs being incompatible have largely been ironed out in the two years since. But, if you’re not on a deadline, then the MacBook Air is coming. And, well, that’s a whole thing we’re going to have to sort out. It’s going to bring a number of benefits that the Pro doesn’t have. It may also have some drawbacks — but we don’t know yet what those are. I can see this being a good purchase for some people if the MacBook Air’s cards fall in a few very specific ways. But I need to see the cards. So watch this space.

13in MacBook Pro M2 Reviews: Worth An Upgrade?
Source: Know Your Mobile English EN→zh-CN
A MacBook isn’t something you update very often. You buy one, run it for the best part of six-to-eight years, and then update it. Case in point: I’m running a 2014 iMac right now. It is still a solid performer, but it is starting to show its age, so I will likely be updating it in the not-too-distant future. Would I get the 13in MacBook Pro M2? Probably not. If I were in the market for a MacBook today, I’d almost certainly hold fire until the new MacBook Air with M2 drops – it’ll be cheaper, just as powerful, and it’ll have a larger display and thinner overall design. For my needs, though, I prefer to run a desktop which means I’ll be going with either the Apple Mac Studio or the Mac mini. I haven’t quite decided on which one yet though. But if you’re looking to buy a MacBook, the 13in MacBook Pro M2 is a hell of a machine. But it will pale in comparison to the soon-to-be-released MacBook Air with M2.

Source: Pocket Lint English EN→zh-CN
The MacBook Pro (M2, 2022) delivers Apple's latest entry-level processor to an existing model that's still very functional. It's just not the best value. So, if you aren't fussed about having the Touch Bar and don't crave the 'Pro' name, we would recommend waiting to see just how the new MacBook Air performs. Our expectations are that this will be the better model for most people.

The MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) is a laptop of contradictions. It’s revolutionary... but plays it safe. Exciting... but a bit boring. It’s a strange choice… and also makes complete sense. The good news is that it comes with Apple’s brand-new M2 chip, which the company promises offers a 40% performance increase over the M1, yet it remains the same price as the previous model, starting at $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$1,999. For anyone who was just about to buy a MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020), getting the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) instead is a bit of a no-brainer, as you’re kind of getting the M2 upgrade for free. That lack of a price rise does come at a… well… price, however, as the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) features the same design as the previous model – and the one before that. If you love the look of the old MacBooks, this won’t be an issue, but the lack of new design does make it feel a bit left out by Apple. Even if it is one of the best laptops you can buy right now, could this be the last MacBook Pro 13-inch we’ll see?

I was initially skeptical of the MacBook Pro 2022 when it was revealed at WWDC 2022. M2 processor notwithstanding, the "new" laptop's design looked archaic compared to the sleek and modern MacBook Air 2022. The fact you’re paying just $100 more over the thinner laptop made it even harder to justify. Though I maintain that the new MacBook Air is the overall better deal, my feelings toward the Pro have changed after extensive hands-on testing. The new 13-inch Pro is a very capable laptop for professionals. Objectively, it's one of the best laptops you can buy. The 13-inch Pro's active cooling system, 10-GPU cores as standard and insanely long battery arguably make this laptop worth the premium. And while the M2 chip might not be as powerful as the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors, it’s far beyond the M1. As I said before, this is the most powerful 13-inch base-model MacBook Pro Apple has ever produced. Design aside, the MacBook Pro 2022 is a definitive improvement over its predecessor. It even blows away the beloved MacBook Air with M1.

On Geekbench 5, we compared the MacBook Pro 13-inch 2022 (8-Core CPU, 10-Core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory) review unit with the M1 Max MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 (10-Core CPU, 32-Core GPU, 64GB Unified Memory), and the results are impressive, and showcases how amazing the M2 CPU is. On the M2 CPU, we had a single-core score of 1,933, and a multi-core score of 8,725, versus the single-core score of 1,758 and multi-core score of 12,014 on the M1 Max machine. In other words, the M2 beats the M1, and expectedly performs below that of the upgraded M1 chips from last year. At least, until Apple eventually upgrades the M2 chips. Ultimately, while we wish Apple could have beefed up the display and camera, it does offer alternative options for those who do want them, in the form of last year’s 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Those looking for a video and photo editing machine won’t necessarily consider the upcoming MacBook Air 2022. The Touch Bar, which has been a MacBook Pro mainstay since 2016 but were removed from last year’s MacBook Pro line-up makes a return here, but given the adherence to the older design...

Throwing a wrench into the buying considerations for the M2 MacBook Pro is the upcoming M2 MacBook Air. We haven’t seen it yet, but by the looks of it, its specs, and its price, the MacBook Air could be a better buy. While we haven’t seen the M2 MacBook Air yet, if history is any indication, then the 13-inch MacBook Pro will continue in its role as a lower-priced laptop made for handling sustained CPU-intensive tasks for users who find the $1,999 14-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro too expensive. Cost-conscious media producers, developers, graphic artists, and other users who want speed on a budget will get what they need from the 13-inch MacBook Pro–but they’ll look at the other Mac laptops longingly.

Apple doesn't miss. The new MacBook 13 delivers on every one of the company's claims. The new M2 chip is more powerful than both its predecessor and the current Windows PC competition hands down. And who's going to complain about over 18 hours of battery life? Nobody, that's who. However, with all this impressive power, it would have been nice to get a new design, a new display or at least a new color. I still yearn slimmer bezels and more ports. If you are looking to save a few bucks and get somewhat comparable performance and a brighter display, consider the $999 Asus ZenBook UX325EA. But if you’re looking for the fastest, most powerful premium laptop in the land, then you've come to the right place.

Cynics might suggest this machine exists so Apple can say MacBook Pros start from £1349, rather than £1899. Apple would position this as making the MacBook Pro more affordable and bringing its power to the masses. Regardless, the machine is an anomaly, mixing up a new and impressive chip with an old design. Apple got away with this two years ago, because the M1 was a breakthrough. Today, this mix is less impressive. Unless you must have a lower-end Apple laptop with a fan for that sustained performance, love the Touch Bar, or can’t stand a notch on a laptop display, we recommend waiting for the upcoming M2 MacBook Air, which for less money will net you a number of meaningful improvements over this ageing design.

Source: T3 English EN→zh-CN
The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 processor is, as I laid out up top of this review, a game of two halves: it delivers next-level power (albeit less than M1 Pro or M1 Max) thanks to its M2 processor, but in an older chassis design with the on-its-way-out Touch Bar feature and broader bezels than your current average. However, that's not all bad: the M2 MacBook Pro's design is a best seller, a classic if you like, and its size ratio and price point will ensure that it holds appeal for a certain user. Sure, you'll go with the MacBook Air M2 if you want a slimmer, leaner, more affordable and fanless design, but if you need more GPU power with cooling then the default Pro offers that bonus. While I thought the MacBook Pro M2 was going to be like buying a second hand car, it turns out I was wrong: its like using a classic that's been quietly modded with a turbocharger. Its battery life is insanely good, its power is right up there (delivered effortlessly too), and while the pricier 14-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 and forthcoming M2 MacBook Air are obvious alternatives that'll suit more people even better,

Apple MacBook Pro 13 (M2, 2022) Review: For a small niche group
Source: XDA Developers English EN→zh-CN
So this specific M2 13-inch MacBook Pro really only fits one group: people who do heavier workloads but either cannot afford or do not want to pay the $2,000 starting price tag of the 14-inch MacBook Pro. We’re talking about someone who creates videos or graphics regularly but wants to keep their work machine budget under $1,500. This is a small group, but still one that exists, I suppose. Or for those of us who still really want to hold on to the Touchbar. The silver lining for Apple is that anyone who feels disappointed by this 2022 MacBook Pro feels that way because the MacBook Air exists. So consumer dollars are still going to Apple in the end through an illusion of choice.

80% Apple MacBook Pro 13-Inch (2022, M2) Review
Source: PC Mag English EN→zh-CN
With the clear improvement over the M1 model, there’s definitely a case to be made for recommending the M2-powered Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch if you're coming from a pre-Apple Silicon MacBook. It offers better performance, better graphics, and stunning battery life, even compared to the M1 model from 2020. But it’s not a huge improvement, especially when you consider the fact that the 13-inch MacBook Pro was left out of the improvements and upgrades lavished on the MacBook Air and other MacBook Pro models over the last two years. The M2 chip is an improvement over the M1, but not as significant an uptick as the older M1 Pro and M1 Max options, and the M2 MacBook Air is coming shortly, offering what will likely amount to similar performance with the same processor, but a fully updated design. That awkward middle-child status makes the 2022 MacBook Pro 13-incher both easy and hard to recommend. It’s a great laptop by almost every measure—but it’s not the best value, or the best performer, in the MacBook Pro stable.

MacBook Pro 13-inch review (M2, 2022): Pro in name only
Source: Engadget English EN→zh-CN
Personally, though, I just want better for potential MacBook buyers. Why should they be stuck with the chunkiest screen bezels in Apple's laptop lineup? Why don't they deserve a high refresh rate screen? Shouldn't Apple devote more attention to one of its best-selling machines? The 13-inch MacBook Pro is fine, like I said. But it should have been so much more.

The 2022 13-inch Macbook Pro may come with the brand new M2 chip, but it feels dated in other ways. With a 60hz screen, wide bezels, and only two ports, the 13-inch Macbook Pro lacks a lot of the great features the 14 and 16-inch models have, and that can even be found on the new Macbook Air. The M2 is legitimately fast, at least.
