Apple continues to raise the bar and set the standard. The MacBook Pro 14 combines a little bit of old with a whole lot of new for a tantalizing product that will bring a lot of consumers to the yard –– especially content creators and consumers who are looking to upgrade. Gamers? That remains to be seen. The notebook’s design is lightweight and sleek with plenty of room for a full HDMI and an SDXC card reader. And the M1 Pro chip brings even more power, battling some of Intel’s heavyweights and winning handily. Plus, it’s serving up over 14 hours of battery life with a formidable quick charge, a show-stopping display, a super comfortable keyboard and an excellent audio system. But like a Telfar bag, Apple doesn’t come cheap. $2,899 is a lot to swallow, even with trade-ins and payment plans. And that $1,999 starting price isn’t much better. It would have been nice if Apple would have offered $1,200, maybe one with last year’s M1 chip. But for everything the MacBook Pro 14 is bringing, it’s a worthwhile investment.

The Apple MacBook Pro 2021 (14-inch) is an important laptop. And that's not only because of what it has but also for what it erases. The marquee features start with the M1 Pro chip, a seriously super-charged upgrade over the M1 chips that upped speeds and battery life last year. Then, there's the new Liquid Retina XDR displays, which offer improved contrast and refresh rates. Apple's also brought MagSafe charging — a safer way to refuel — back to the MacBook Pro. As for what we're happy to see gone? Apple's shrunk the MacBook Pro display bezels down significantly (though it found a notch that caused trouble underneath) and thrown out the Touch Bar. Both of these changes would have been applause lines had Apple had revealed this laptop to the public and not on a live stream.

If, like me, you’ve been waiting for Apple to finally revamp its popular 13-inch MacBook Pro line, now is the time. As mentioned, there are many configuration options, and if you want the increased mobility that the 14-inch model offers over the larger 16-inch model, but also need extra performance (for example, if you’re working on heavy rendering tasks or 8K raw video, or editing video streams or heavy image files from medium format cameras), the 14-inch MacBook Pro is also available with Apple’s M1 Max processor and up to 64 gigabytes of memory.. That comes at a premium, and for the vast majority of users, the 14-inch model with M1 Pro will be the obvious choice.

For the starting price of RM8,799, the M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 is certainly not something that everyone should go out and buy. Considering everything that Apple packed in here – the magnificent mini LED display, the performance coming out of the M1 Pro chip, and also the unparalleled battery life and efficiency – I actually think it’s worth the price if you can make use of what it offers.

Starting at Rs 1,94,900, the new MacBook Pro is an expensive laptop and the price tag immediately puts it out of reach of many buyers. However, Apple isn’t looking to target those buyers with the new MacBook Pro. For those, the M1 MacBook Air or the M1 MacBook Pro are excellent options to look at. The 14-inch MacBook Pro is more of a statement of intent — and perhaps an admission — from Apple that it needed to make a machine that the Pro users would look at not even think of any other laptop. The MacBook Pro has everything that a user could ask for. The performance is excellent, the display is gorgeous to look at, the battery life is unparalleled and the speaker system remains the best. The MacBook Pro is more of an investment for the next five years. You will have to spend a lot of money to buy it but there’s very little chance that you will have to buy another laptop for the next five years. Apple has made a complete package that very few other laptops offer and for that, it is arguably the best laptop you can buy right now.

I've been waiting for this MacBook Pro 2021 (14-inch) review for a very long time. I last bought a Mac in 2012, when the first Retina Display MacBook Pro arrived. And then I didn't need a MacBook until around 2016 and 2017, right when Apple switched to a controversial keyboard that felt too shallow, took away MagSafe and those valuable ports. We'd love to see a MacBook Pro with these ports at a more affordable price, but that's not in the cards right now. Maybe in 2022, Apple will update that spot in its lineup. The MacBook Air 2022, for example, is expected to get MagSafe. All that said, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro is pretty much exactly the laptop that many have waited for, and even dreamed of. With a notch on top.

Apple has embraced change with the new MacBook Pro lineup, even at the cost of admitting it was wrong. It's just sad that it took so long – many buyers including long-time Mac users were vocal and united in criticising the lack of ports and slots on the previous few generations, plus the fact that the Touch Bar made the keyboard worse. What the company has now remembered is that a premium laptop is not the same as a laptop for pro users. If you don't have any budget constraints and just want the best Mac laptop there is right now, look no further. However, creative pros do have sleek and powerful options on the Windows side of the fence these days, with plenty of compelling features such as touchscreens and stylus support. Microsoft's Surface lineup is the obvious equivalent, but the Asus ProArt and Acer ConceptD series are contenders, as are many top-end models from Dell, Lenovo, and HP for less artistic power users.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is now the most compact professional-grade computer you can buy. It is not much larger than a MacBook Air but still performs almost as well as an iMac. If you are a power user with the need to run powerful software that will push any computer at regular intervals, then this is the device for you. Also, for creative professionals, the stunning new display is going to make a huge difference too. Yes, the MacBook Pro 2021 is expensive with starting prices of the 14-inch version priced upwards of Rs 1,94,900. But then you are equipping yourself to work from the home, office and everywhere else for the next few years.

Perhaps the main reason you are here is to know if buying the MacBook Pro 14 is worth your hard-earned money. And let’s be frank – it is quite expensive. Even the base option will set you back some good $2000. First things first, we think that Apple once again outdid itself when it comes to the build quality. You get a 14-inch tank, which is extremely resistant to flex and has a premium feel. Jokes aside, the MacBook Pro 14 is a really good piece of machinery. With the number of natively supported apps increasing, M1 Pro is en route to becoming one of the best SoCs on the market. However, we still think that if you are a Windows user, you will probably stick to Windows laptops, and if you are a Mac user… Well, then you have one less reason to switch to another operating system.

The MacBook Pro (2021) is 95% of the Mac many of us have been wanting for years. Apple giveth and Apple taketh away. As unbelievable as it may seem, Apple has finally listened to what MacBook Pro fans have been complaining about. With this MacBook Pro, Apple has once again delivered a laptop that earns its place as the default laptop for creatives. Even though it’s expensive, to my mind it’s well worth its hefty price tag. Apple really cares about making money, so here’s a tip if you’re in the market for a new laptop. If you want Apple to continue to listen to what its customers want, do us all a favor and buy a MacBook Pro 2021. We might just get our remaining complaints addressed next time if Apple sees the money rolling in. Barring some professionals with extreme GPU-intensive workflows, the MacBook Pro (2021) with the M1 Pro chip has all the performance you’ll need. The 14-inch model, with its smaller battery and poorer thermals, is more portable but won’t last as long unplugged as the 16-inch.

This is the MacBook Pro update a lot of people have been waiting for. Not only do we have a refreshed design with several new (and old) user-friendly features, but we also get to see the next step in Apple's in-house silicone journey with the M1 Pro and M1 Max SoCs. Apple seems to have listened to users who have been unhappy with its past few generations of MacBook Pros, and has tweaked the design and spec sheet to reintroduce the MagSafe charging standard, an SD card slot, and an HDMI video output. Gone is the controversial Touch Bar which stole space from the Fn key row and never really lived up to its promise. However, there's a new quirk to take its place – a notched display. So, should creative professionals and heavy multitaskers rush out to buy this laptop? Does it solve all your problems, and what exactly is it like to live with the notch? I've been able to spend a day with the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, and while it's too early for a full review, here are my early thoughts.

The new MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch are triumphs. They solve just about all of the complaints of the old machines, while pushing the whole world of laptops forward by setting a new standard for performance in this kind of size. At the same time, these MacBook Pros really are for pros. The level of power they offer is so high that I would suggest that most people really should think about sticking with the M1 MacBook Air unless you're expecting to push the GPU to the limit here, or simply must have 32GB of memory. But the screen may well pull you back in, because even amateur photographers or those who watch movies on their laptop will be blown away by the image quality on offer here. If you just want a MacBook Pro because you like to have the greatest laptop, you should think about sticking with the lowest-end version. But for creative pros, the power on offer here is just awesome, and it's more flexible for working on the go than anything else on the market.

Overall, the MacBook Pro is a powerful, compact, and efficient notebook. Whether that even matters depends on how invested you are in Apple's ecosystem and whether you can (or want to) get by without Windows. Long-time Mac users will be thrilled with the performance and battery life. Those that want to leave Microsoft's ecosystem behind might find something they truly enjoy. Our guess, though, is that most HotHardware readers either want or need Windows. For those that don't though, the 14" MacBook Pro is HotHardware Recommended.

In every way, I find the MacBook Pro 14 an impressive laptop. In fact, you can say that the new MacBook Pro Duo (14 and 16) are unique. They offer performance in a laptop that has never been seen before. Yet, I must add one line of caution: these are not the laptops you should buy if all that you do on your laptop is browse web, send emails and edit some photos or videos in Adobe software. For all this, you should look at the MacBook Pro 13 or the MacBook Air. While as great the M1 Pro and the M1 Max are, the M1 is no slouch and is more than good enough for the needs of 95 per cent of users. In fact, you may even find the sleeker and lighter MacBook Pro 13 more appealing compared to the MacBook Pro 14. The remaining 5 per cent of you, those who earn money by developing software, or creating games, or building new virtual worlds through 3D and 4D modelling, or by editing professional videos will benefit immensely from the MacBook Pro 14. But here too, you must careful take a look at the configuration options.

Is there anything negative to say about the computer? No not really. If you are an everyday user, you may think it is expensive, but if you are a professional photographer, music creator, filmmaker or whatever it may be, then you get a lot of computer and performance for the money. Apple's new SoC M1 Pro is simply terribly fast. And then there is the M1 Max…

Finally, I go through a bunch of performance tests and recommend the models I think you should buy.

The clue is in the name: this is a MacBook Pro. If you don’t need its power and ports, it’s overkill. And if software you’re running isn’t yet optimised for Apple silicon, it might not (yet) represent great value. On the flip side, if you work in a field that can take advantage of this notebook’s tech, you’ll be laughing – and thrilled that Apple is again listening to what pros require. If you’re flush then you might just ignore all that anyway and consider this notebook like an iPhone Pro or an iPad Pro that you might not need but nonetheless want. And should you be in the market for a new Mac notebook that’s best-in-class, you won’t be disappointed with this 14in model.

If you did not buy into the first wave of Apple Silicon devices, now is a good time to get in on the fun. The integrated GPU performance is killer, and you get a better display with a higher native resolution, slightly better speakers, and loads more ports. Just keep in mind this base 14-inch MacBook Pro model will run you over $2,000 with tax, $700 more than the base 13-inch MacBook Pro model. There is little benefit to upgrading from a 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro to the one reviewed here, though. Processor performance is only slightly better in both real-world and synthetic benchmarks, and that’s why the new MacBook Pros are more niche than the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro; This laptop with an M1 Pro is best for people with minimal photo and video editing needs, or for people who need a ton of RAM and ports—but most people won’t need all that. If you need more speed than what the M1 Pro can offer, you might want to go with Apple's M1 Max chip instead. Little oversights like a rougher trackpad are also things you’ll have to contend with.

So: those are the new MacBook Pros. They are some of the best laptops we have ever tested, with an unbeatable combination of lightning fast performance and tremendous battery life. And Apple seems to have come back to reality in terms of design — well, apart from that notch. But adding some useful ports and ditching the Touch Bar are just smart, practical choices, and honestly worth the upgrade for many people. So what are the knocks? The biggest one is that these machines are expensive. If you’re an actual pro, the prices are perhaps easy to justify given the performance, but if you’re just doing everyday productivity work, you can get a lot of great laptops for less than the $2,000 starting price of the 14-inch MacBook Pro. And Apple only putting 16GB of RAM in the base models and charging $400 for an upgrade to 32GB is just ridiculous. The other is that Apple is still in the midst of the transition to its own chips, and the software ecosystem isn’t totally there. These machines feel like the future, but parts of that future are still a little bit hazy

From a distance, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro looks a lot like the 13-inch MacBook Air or 13-inch MacBook Pro you might already be using. Look again and the differences pop out. It has a bigger screen (obviously), slimmer bezels and a new keyboard color scheme. Get close enough to pick it up, and that's when it hits you: This thing is actually pretty heavy. It's 3.5 pounds, compared to 3 pounds for the current 13-inch Pro and 2.8 pounds for the MacBook Air. A half-pound may not sound like much, but in the arms race toward ever slimmer and lighter laptops, we're now definitely moving in the opposite direction. For the creative pros and other power users who have been waiting for a post-Intel Mac with the graphics processing power they need for their work, that will hardly matter. For casual users who just want the latest and greatest MacBook, you'll have to calculate if the portability trade-off is worth it for the new features, which include a better webcam and more ports.

The MacBook Pro's reputation as a top-performing laptop of status lost some of its its luster over the years. Recent updates were incremental and even the newest 16-inch model was in dire need of a redesign. That's no longer an issue. According to an Apple hardware engineer, this new MacBook Pro has been in the works since 2019, and by the looks and feel of it, a lot of careful thought has been put into this laptop. It starts with the exterior design, with its stylish looks, sturdiness, and luxurious feel. Open it up, and you can't take your eyes off the brilliant display, and the keyboard brings out your working intuition. And when you get to work, the MacBook Pro responds without hesitation, as if it knows what you want to do and how fast you want to do it. All of this is more than enough for the MacBook Pro to overcome its few shortcomings, which hopefully will be addressed in short time. But make no mistake, the new MacBook Pro is a truly satisfying laptop, and it can now wear the crown of the professional's choice without hesitation.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is a major leap forward for Apple laptops in a way that the 13-inch Pro model is not. It’s the obvious choice for creative professionals who need a mobile workstation for content creation that juggles the three competing demands of portability, affordability, and power. If two of those legs—portability and affordability—matter less to you, the 16-inch MacBook Pro could be a better option because of its larger screen. But it doesn’t offer a ton of extra computing performance for non-specialized tasks, and if you know you can take advantage of the M1 Max’s specialized capabilities, you can configure a 14-inch MacBook Pro with that upgrade too. On the other hand, if you just need an Apple laptop for basic tasks, you should stay away from any version of the MacBook Pro; it's simply too strong a dose. The 2020 MacBook Air is the clear choice for you, since it offers nearly the same capabilities as the 13-inch MacBook Pro for a far more palatable starting price of $999.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro and its companion product, the 16-inch MacBook Pro, are part of Apple's second wave of devices with the company's own M1 series chips. Instead of the stock M1 already in the MacBook Air, 13-inch Pro, Mac Mini and 24-inch iMac, the choice here is between the M1 Pro and the M1 Max, both of which offer more cores dedicated to graphics processing than the vanilla M1 (14, 16 or 32 GPU cores, versus seven or eight GPU cores), and more on-board video encoding and decoding capabilities. The two new models are very similar in features and configuration options, with a couple of lower-end M1 Pro options reserved for the base 14-inch MacBook Pro My review of the 16-inch MacBook Pro covers a lot of the new features and performance changes in depth, so here I'll just hit on a few of the highlights and how the smaller size of the 14-inch changes the potential audience for it.

In 2016 the MacBook Pro effectively veered off course and tried to deliver a 'pro' experience that was packaged in a more 'consumery' format - something that is still very apparent with the 13-inch MacBook Pro compared to the current MacBook Air. But this new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max processor sees Apple throw out the playbook it has been using since 2016 and go back to basics, back to the Mac of 2015 and before, almost as if the last few years haven't even existed. Unlike the MacBook Pro models of recent times, this isn't a device that's merely there to enjoy surfing the web or writing the odd document - that's what the MacBook Air is for - this is a machine that wants to be pushed to the limit. If you opt to customise the configuration even further then you'll be hard pushed to hit that limit too. However, we do have concerns that those side air vents will cause problems in the long run, are surprised there is no Face ID support in the new notch, and wish there was a SIM card slot for 5G connectivity.

So if you’re in the market for one of these new computers, which should you get? If you’re mostly using it for general productivity tasks, then I’d lean towards the 14-inch model, which was just easier to travel with. It’s a good option for coders and people who may not need a ton of screen real estate. But all of the video and audio producers I’ve talked to were unequivocal: they wanted to go big with the 16-inch model. The biggest downside of the new MacBook Pros are their high prices — but really, what else do you expect from Apple? The 14-inch model, in particular, will probably give you the vapors if you're comparing it to the 13-inch MacBook Pro. But in the world of gaming and high-end productivity notebooks, Apple's pricing isn't that far off. The Razer Blade 14, for example, is just two hundred dollars less than the MacBook Pro 14-inch. Dell's XPS 15 OLED is around $500 cheaper than the cheapest 16-inch MBP, but that's with a CPU that's much slower than Apple's. Once you start speccing that machine up, though, you’ll likely pay close to $2,500.

In the end, the MacBook Pro's various improvements vastly outweigh its issues. I'll take improve battery life, thermal management and the return of valuable ports over a slightly sleeker design. Further, the power of Apple's M1 silicon remains impressive with the addition of the M1 Pro and the M1 Max. With all of this in mind, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro may only be worthwhile for those who need the additional power these new chips offer. For example, I could easily get by with the 13-inch MacBook Pro and its M1 chip for the next several years. Still, there's something to be said for the built-in SD card slot and HDMI port. Of course, the new MacBook Pro comes at a premium. Apple's new MacBook Pro is available for $2,499 for the 14-inch and $3,139 for the 16-inch at Best Buy, the Apple Store and more. Shipping starts on October 26th. Hopefully, the stark change in design direction marks a shift at Apple regarding its overall approach to creating products, with the company striking a better balance between style and performance moving forward when it comes to its Pro devices.

`As you can see from the above, the decision about whether to choose the 16in MacBook Pro or the 14in MacBook Pro isn't about power or capability, because both models can take advantage of the same M1 Pro or M1 Max chips. The choice is between a larger 16in display and longer battery life, or a lighter Mac laptop. The size of the display is less important if most of the work you will be doing on it will be at a desk with an external monitor plugged in, similarly battery life only matters if you are often away from a power source. The real decision is about whether you need the M1 Pro or M1 Max. If you only need the basic M1 Pro offering, with 8-core CPU and 14-core GPU then only the 14in MacBook Pro offers that option. If on the other hand you need the ultimate M1 Max you can get that with either the 14in or 16in MacBook Pro - and choosing the 14in MacBook Pro will save you money. The element that will probably effect your decision most of all is your budget, and basically you can get more for your money if you choose the 14in MacBook Pro.
