Reviews for the Apple iPad 10.2 2020
The new iPad and the old iPad come with very similar specifications sheets. The 2020 model has a new SoC and a smaller carbon footprint.

The iPad 2020 should really be called the iPad SE, and that's not an insult. Just like the iPhone SE and Apple Watch SE, the goal with this iPad is simple: give users all of the key features they need at an attractive price. And based on my iPad 2020 review, I'd say Apple delivers on that promise. The A12 Bionic processor inside this slate offers blistering performance for a slate under $350, making it a great choice for work and play. And the nearly 13 hours of battery life if best in class. Add in support for the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, and the iPad 2020 can even pinch hit for a laptop. I do wish Apple found a way to support the newer 2nd-gen Apple Pencil and to erase some of those bezels, but overall the iPad 2020 is a very strong value and one of the best tablets for the money.

The iPad 10.2-inch (2020) is our favourite cheap tablet because it matches excellent software and apps with great build quality. There are areas for improvement, but it's just a no-nonsense top tablet.

At Rs 29,990, Apple has got the pricing quite right for the iPad. It’s not meant for those who are looking to get the best from Apple. Instead, this iPad is testament to not just the fact that Apple knows what it’s doing when it comes to tablets but also how competition hasn’t been able to outwit Apple at the tablet game. The Cupertino-based tech giant continues to make tweaks here and there and goes for the first-time buyer who is in the market for a tablet. The pandemic has ensured that video calls, online classes and meetings are here to stay and this is the iPad they should — and are likely to buy.

Pro tip: Don’t buy the 2020 iPad, or at least, ignore the base model. Rs 28,900 is cheap for an iPad, but 32 GB of storage will be more curse than boon. You’ll spend more time micro-managing storage than having fun. Either buy the 128 GB iPad (for Rs 37,900), or, if you don’t mind the size, opt for the Mini.

The iPad 8 is a great tablet, and one that’ll do a good job at replacing an ageing iPad or Android slate. It’s not a huge upgrade over the previous though, with a faster processor the only notable addition.

There are some things that could have been better. One is the base storage. It is just 32GB. That could have been better. And two, I would have liked to see improved front and rear cameras. Apple is working with these 8-megapixel and 1.2-megapixel sensors for far too long.

The iPad (2020) is still a solid tablet, it's just not exciting in any way, especially in the face of the soon to launch but far more expensive iPad Air (2020) that brings all of the pricey iPad Pro (2020)'s best features down to a slightly lower cost.

The new iPad Pro 2020 is another impressive tablet – but so were the models from 2018. Those devices were powerful, capable and had a multitude of improvements to the technology, and the latest iPad Pro has all of that too; however, apart from a small upgrade in terms of power, new camera tech that has few uses right now, and a few new features that will be rolled out to the older models too, it doesn't feel like a massive update.

Apple fans might be slightly perturbed by the modest progression made here – the iPad 8th Generation’s advancements won’t make owners of the previous generation iPad rush out to upgrade.

It may not have the updated design of the iPad Air or Pro, but there's a lot to like about Apple's entry-level iPad, especially with noticeable performance gains compared to last year's option.

This iPad’s name has nothing extra tacked on the end. It’s no Air and no Pro – and that’s how it feels when you use it. But then it’s not trying to be those devices. This is Apple’s entry-level iPad – an iPad for the masses.

Apple updated their entry level iPad for 2020, this time packing in an A12 Bionic chip. But overall it isn't enough for owners of the 6th or 7th generation to upgrade.

That said, you probably don't need to plunk down the cash if you already have an iPad from the past couple of years. Apple has upgraded the new device, but the updates are so minor that only first-time buyers or those with an iPad that’s a few years old should consider upgrading.

The new 10.2" iPad from Apple has FINALLY received the upgrade that we've been wanting for the last two years! Yes, that's the A12 Bionic chip, which makes this iPad a much better deal than before, being able to run basically any app or game you want. Other than that, we discuss how great the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard is and how it helps the iPad become the ULTIMATE laptop replacement, especially for working from home. So in this video, I talk about all of the advantages of this iPad setup compared to budget laptops and chromebooks.

The eighth-gen iPad feels familiar. It should be familiar: iPads don't change much. But the world certainly has. My whole family is trapped at home, working and going to school; remote connections are our whole lives. And iPads and Chromebooks are everywhere in our house.

If you've never owned an iPad before, or you own an iPad from a few years back - the iPad Air 2, say, or the fifth-gen iPad from 2017 - then this is a great tablet to pick up for general use. It's light, portable, comfortably quick enough for any app you throw at it right now and affordably priced. And you still get a headphone port, which is a dying luxury these days.

If you’re either keen to upgrade an older iPad or want to get your foot into the iOS ecosystem then the iPad 8 is a great pick, especially if you’re not overly fussed about flagship features or spending big. If you want a bit more, the iPad Air 4 is far more feature-rich, however.

The new iPad 2020 is great value for a brand-new iPad, even if it is only a modest upgrade over last year's version. It comes with a faster chipset and a 20W fast charger in the box, which join prior-year features like Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support. Best of all, the price hasn't changed year-on-year, making this the best iPad for those who don’t need Apple’s technologically best iPad.

Another year, another budget iPad, and this new one is truly hard to argue against. It is the best tablet option for people on a budget, and among the best options for students. The 2020 iPad can easily handle any tasks – from writing essays and researching topics simultaneously, to gaming, video editing and even music production.

At this point, you might be tempted by cheap Android alternatives. And certainly, there is no shortage of options there. But none come close to matching this iPad’s level of build, refinement, and performance. To match this iPad, you'd have to be prepared to cough up more for a higher-end tablet from Huawei or Samsung. And with Google just about given up on tablets, the app ecosystem for Android tablets just isn’t as robust.

The 2020 iPad is basically the same solid tablet we got last year, except it runs and charges a little faster. That may not sound thrilling (because it isn’t) but this is an extremely competent device made more flexible by design changes and Pencil improvements in iPadOS 14. If you haven't upgraded your tablet in age, or if you're buying one for the first time, we still think this is your best all-around option.

Lisa Gade reviews the 2020 refresh of the 10.2” iPad. This is the base model that starts at $329 and ships with iPadOS 14 and the Apple A12 Bionic CPU. The tablet has an IPS 2160 x 1620 display that’s compatible with Apple Pencil 1, and it’s available with optional 4G LTE. The 490g Apple tablet has a headphone jack, very good stereo speakers, and is available in silver, space gray and gold colors. Beyond a pleasing display, Pencil support and smart connector for keyboards, the appeal of Apple’s most affordable iPad is the vast ecosystem of apps.

Instead, the tech giant kept the aging design but upgraded its processor to match the iPhone XS, XR, iPad Air (2019) and iPad Mini (2019), making it a surprisingly powerful device and a decent deal when you consider the cost of Apple’s other higher-end iPads. MobileSyrup will have more on Apple’s new iPad (2020) in the coming weeks.
