I can’t deny that Apple iPad Mini 2021 is not a pocket-sized device. But, to be honest, It has its own touch, some elements here and some elements there. However, in the end, it comes out as a saviour, no matter if you’re looking for a tablet, no matter if you’re looking for an iPhone. This device has got your back, with enough performance equivalent to an iPhone, and the display enough for you to watch movies and play games. Indeed, there is a certain fanbase here for the iPad OS and people who already own an Apple device. So if you’re one of those people, perhaps this is the device you need to go forward with. Yes, there is a battery life issue, yes, there is no headphone jack, and yes, the camera could have been better. But even if I bloc all things together, the Apple iPad Mini still comes out as a champion.

Apple's iPad Pro range is an impressive thing, and for the right person – with the right workload – the promise of a tablet that can replace your traditional laptop is not an exaggeration. All the same, though, not everybody fits into that category, and not everybody wants, needs, or can even accommodate a large tablet. That's what makes the iPad mini so appealing. Trying to use one as a do-everything machine probably would be a shortcut to frustration. As a companion device, though, it makes far more sense, and it's priced accordingly too. I've found I use the iPad mini much more frequently than I do the iPad Pro or iPad Air, simply because it's more portable. Whether that idea of another device to join, rather than replace, your laptop, phone, and other gadgets strikes you as ridiculous or charming may well be the biggest factor in deciding if the new iPad mini is for you or not.

Yes. While the Pro features come along with a higher price, the iPad Mini is one of the best — if not the best — tablet you can buy right now. It combines a lot of great features with just a few cut corners to bring an unmatched tablet experience. It’s fast and smooth, and has a ton of apps that are amazing. It also multitasks if you’re into that, and you can game on it as well. It’s basically the tablet for everyone.

Alright, time to wrap up this review of the iPad mini (2021). So what I can confidently tell you is that if you are thinking of getting a premium mid-range tablet right now, for most users, the iPad Air 4 is still the best option out there. And if you want something cheaper, I would recommend getting the Xiaomi Pad 5. But after using the iPad mini 6 for such a long time, it has become my new favorite tablet. It’s just a perfect device for someone like me, who likes to read and take notes, while its powerful performance makes it a good gaming machine as well. And it will continue to deliver great performance even after 3 or 4 years down the road. The only things I wished were better here is the screen’s brightness level and the support for a higher refresh rate. I mean, for a device that is so suitable for reading, those shortcomings definitely make a big difference. And apart from the beefy iPad mini with the latest chip, maybe Apple could introduce its “lite” version with something like the A13 Bionic chipset and a cheaper design for about USD 300 – USD 350. That would be really great!

After 2019, for the first time, Apple updated its iPad Mini lineup with the iPad Mini 6. The iPad Mini 6 launched in September, and the first sale was held in October. I pre-ordered the 256GB Wi-Fi Only variant of the iPad Mini 6 and got it on October 8th. After two months of usage, I have some thoughts as it’s my first iPad and I bought the device for multiple reasons, including my work, which involves a lot of typing, watching videos, playing music, and more. So let’s talk about it. The iPad Mini 6 is a great purchase for its price and is a true all rounder. Be it performance, cameras, display or anything else, the iPad Mini 6 excels in almost every aspect.

The iPad mini (6th generation) is available in Wi-Fi only variants of 64 GB for Rs 46,900 and 256 GB for Rs 60,900. The Wi-Fi and 5G version comes at Rs 60,900 for 64 GB and Rs 74,900 for 256 GB. This means its base version finds itself within touching distance of the latest iPad Air, which is now available from some stores at slightly less than Rs 50,000, whereas its top variant gets into the new iPad Pro zone. It is more powerful than the latest iPad Air but is unlikely to outmuscle the M1 chip-driven iPad Pro, and of course, both of those tablets have bigger displays, as indeed does the latest iPad. To some, that might make the new iPad mini feel expensive. But this iPad mini’s audience is likely to be those looking for a tablet that is almost as convenient to carry and use as a phone without compromising on processing power. In that zone, the new iPad mini hits it totally out of the park, slotting in almost perfectly in the middle ground between the 6.7-inch display of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the 10.2-inch display of the iPad.

I expect the questions about the new iPad mini to come hard and fast this fall, as iPad owners wonder if they should treat themselves to the new-new or keep what they have. Those who want a tablet with an excellent screen can just stop right here with the iPad mini 2021. And with the mini's speedy A15 Bionic performance, you should be confident that you can run even-more demanding apps on it. For even more battery life, you can save $170 with the $329 iPad 9. Think you're going to type a lot? The iPad Air 2020 is calling your name, but it's $100 more at $599 and its Magic Keyboard is $299 on top of that. Want a 8-inch tablet for less than half the price of the iPad mini 6? Well, just know that the $159 Galaxy Tab A7 Lite's screen isn't as sharp, its performance can't touch the iPad mini 6 and it doesn't last as long either. At the end of the day, those who want an excellent one-handed tablet experience for reading books and watching shows and movies — with no compromises — should check out the iPad mini 2021.

If you are looking for a device that is slightly larger than your smartphone to consume content, play games, social networking, read books and more, then the iPad Mini could be your new best friend. It has a very good form factor, ergonomic design and good battery life. While I wish the display was a little better, its performance is no slouch and unless you’ve used an iPad Pro, you won't know what you are missing. However, if you are looking for a laptop replacement, a large screen to run multiple apps simultaneously with ease or a tablet for drawing, then I highly recommend checking out the iPad or the iPad Air as the larger display real estate works better there. The Mini caters to those looking for a pocketable tablet in addition to their phone and aren't comfortable making the jump to a foldable device.

This bigger-screened, better sounding iPad Mini is a huge improvement on the last model and just the ticket if an 8-inch tablet is what you’re after. While the picture performance isn’t anything like what you’ll find on the iPad Pro 12.9, the size and shape is undeniably more convenient and it’s also only half the price. The Mini is just about small enough to carry around in a jacket pocket while offering a viewing experience that’s way beyond that of even a large mobile phone. Price-wise, you won’t find anything that can match it. Throw in its class-leading audio performance, its super-slick user experience, the rather handsome looks and the interesting addition of the Pencil support and you’ve got yourself a little five-star winner.

The new iPad mini 2021, also called the iPad mini 6, is a powerful device with a crisp smaller screen, 5G connectivity support, and a stylish and compact design that makes it easy to insert into bags and even larger pockets. It won’t be the best iPad for everyone, but it’s undeniably the best small tablet money can buy.

For the most part, most tablets that you’ll find in the market come in at larger than 10 inches in screen size. If you want something that’s smaller without sacrificing performance, there’s really no alternative to the iPad mini. And the redesign that the sixth-generation tiny tablet has gotten only serves to make it an even more compelling product. Despite it being an optional extra, the Apple Pencil 2 is a very fun accessory to have with the iPad mini 6. The redesign making this possible by allowing easy stowing of the stylus is another major plus point for getting both. And iPadOS 15, which is technically a benefit that all newer iPads have, makes the combo an even more compelling one. So to answer the initial question – should you buy the iPad mini 6? If you have an older model that’s locked out of iPadOS, now’s the best time to do so. If you’ve had a more recent model like the fifth-generation iPad mini, that depends on if the Apple Pencil is an important part of your use of the tablet. Of course, it would also mean getting a new stylus if your answer is yes.

Despite a small body, the iPad mini can last the whole day, whether it's work, gaming, watching Netflix, and more. Even if the battery is depleted, you only need 30 to 40 minutes to fully recharge it. So iPad mini users, you don't need to worry about its battery performance at all.

For anyone in the market for a small tablet, there’s no doubt that the iPad Mini is the best tablet you can get. Aside from the middling display, the diminutive tablet does it all with very few compromises. The larger screen means it’s no longer relegated to niche uses and can serve as a capable media companion. The wider aspect ratio is now much more streaming-friendly, and the small size means it won’t tire your arms during long streaming or reading sessions. Unlike the iPad Air and iPad Pro, the iPad Mini doesn’t try to be anything but a tablet. Despite being every bit as powerful as its larger cousins (barring the ultra-premium M1 iPad Pro models), Apple doesn’t even try to upsell you with a magic keyboard to turn the iPad Mini into a mini laptop replacement.

The new versions are available with 5G in case you want to future-proof yourself. That would make sense also because iPads generally last a few years and stay very contemporary even then. At a starting price of Rs 46,900, the iPad mini, especially given that this is a smaller tablet, might seem a bit pricey. But the iPad brings in top-level productivity, gaming, and consumption features to an ultra-portable form factor. The iPad mini is, without doubt, one of the best tablets in the market, however, do make sure this is the right size for you.

Yes, for the past year or two, this is that iPad mini that I’ve repeatedly said I’ve wanted. It’s finally the product that comes to address that fact that it’s as if this lineup always carried some sort of a burden. The first one launched without a Retina Display along with the third iPad that did, so that honeymoon didn’t last. Then when it did, it didn’t get refreshed for years, making the Air and Pro models with stylus support more enticing. Point is, I’ve spent years on Amazon’s front page wanting to buy one, but since it’s never been priced as an impulsive buy, and because Apple kept launching it along with better alternatives, it’s been like this product I know I want, but could resist. This is the first major upgrade it sees since it launched 9 years ago, and most of it is good, but the question is if you’d be ok with the minor things it could do better? I’m Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and this is our full review, sponsored by Skillshare.

Priced at Rs 46,900, the Apple iPad Mini is a unique proposition in the tablet market. It is a handy tablet packed with so much performance that you do not know how to use it to its max potential. The second-generation Apple Pencil support is a welcome move, and so is the addition of USB-C port and Smart Folio cover (sold separately) for protection. That said, consider the iPad Mini 6 if you need a handy but powerful tablet without the extravagant features of the Pro models.

I went into this process convinced that while I really liked the look of the new iPad mini, I would find it a less capable alternative to the base iPad. After all, the first-generation iPad Pro with its huge display had completely overshadowed the standard iPad for me, so it followed that the smaller display on the iPad mini would be a letdown. Instead, what I found was a tablet that is much more portable, and at the same time, is still good for media use. Where I thought I'd quickly stop using the iPad mini and instead switch back to my own sixth-generation iPad at night, I instead found myself almost exclusively using the smaller tablet. Typing with my thumbs on the small display was not only possible but actually comfortable; I have to hold the larger iPad in one hand and type with the other. Holding the iPad mini up for long stretches of time while reading books and comics was also just so much easier. The design is smart and convenient, and I ended up really finding it much more comfortable.

The sheer utility — because of its compact size — that the iPad mini offers will appeal to a lot of users. While there would be many to whom the screen size will be a deal-breaker as they might seem it could limit their functional usage. If you want to buy your first iPad then perhaps the entry-level one is a better choice — cheaper and bigger in size. But if you have been an iPad user — non-Pro kind — for years and want something different, then the iPad mini is the right choice. The ease of use is just too big a plus in its favour. Add to it the excellent performance it delivers makes the iPad mini a compelling option. For those who like reading on the go and don’t want to be glued to their smartphones all the time, the iPad mini is a good alternative. Readers of eBooks too will find the iPad mini a really attractive option. At Rs 46,990, the iPad mini is expensive than the entry-level iPad (Rs 30,990) and cheaper than the iPad Air (Rs 54,990). As we said it’s the middle child but this time has got a lot of love from Apple, which makes it a really good offering but is a rather niche device.

When you think about it, this gets back to the original point about the iPad mini — it’s unique and niche. It isn’t an iPad for everyone, designed to do everything. Deciding to buy one comes down to knowing what you want or need out of a tiny tablet. In my time with the iPad mini, I loved the experience. It’s not as serious as the other iPads and feels way more casual than my 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It’s also more enjoyable for reading than the screen of my iPhone 12 Pro. Ultimately, the iPad mini is a fantastic device and can be great in the right situation. The important thing is making sure the majority of your needs from a tablet fall into those situations.

Small iPad mini is not for everyone. Many people probably think that the screen is too small, but if you, like me, prefer the compact format, there is actually no better tablet on the market right now. Yes, big brother iPad Pro, but then we are in a completely different price range. Apple’s latest iPad mini performs like a nuclear power plant, and also comes with so many other improvements – 5G, stereo sound, USB-C, ultra-wide angle selfie camera and “In Focus” function, etc., that we can live with the fact that we have to do without the Mini-LED screen iPad mini so obviously deserves.

The iPad mini is as close to perfection as an iPad can get. It's a smaller iPad Air that does nearly everything better. It's missing some Pro features, but few that I would pay extra for. It's practical, pretty, and portable. It's not entirely without flaws. There's no headphone jack, the jelly scrolling issue does exist, and battery life could be better. The US$499 starting price for the 64GB model seems fair, but 64GB is low for an iPad. There is no 128GB model. The only upgrade is to 256GB, which has a significantly higher starting price of US$649. That's exactly one hundred bucks less than the very similar but larger iPad Air, and also $100 more than the previous generation iPad mini. The price bump is unfortunate, but the new iPad mini is a big upgrade. And it's a better deal than the Air: It's cheaper with a better front camera, faster processor, and 5G (if you opt for the WiFi + Cellular variant). Still, when it comes to the iPad mini, the first thing you need to think about is that display. If you value more screen real estate over portability, get something else.

There’s a lot to love about the Apple iPad mini (2021). It’s an ultraportable powerhouse – easy to slip in your bag or jacket pocket without sacrificing high-end features or grunt. It is fantastic if that’s what you want from an iPad mini. Yet, if you were in love with the original mini concept, it’s a different story. Imagine if the Mini Cooper S had a Ferrari-style overhaul with a Ferrari-style price tag. Car fans would be absolutely thrilled. But what if mini then stopped selling the standard Mini Cooper S? Taking away that choice would perhaps disappoint more people than it would delight, and it could be a similar story with the new souped-up iPad mini. If you’re stepping down from a larger iPad because the mini’s grunt can now do your favourite apps justice, keep in mind that the smaller screen size might hamper your productivity.

The iPad Mini 6 is easily the best small tablet around, although the price will likely make it a very niche device. If it’s the size that matters, however, then the design, performance and accessory support are all fantastic here. The iPad Mini 6 isn’t going to be for everyone; however, it’s a lovely little tablet that sits in an arena where it has virtually no competition. If a small tablet is what you’re looking for then this is the best. The design of this device offers a huge upgrade over previous models, the A15 Bionic will serve you well for years, and it’s great to see USB-C finally adopted here. If it’s just a general tablet you’re after then the iPad Air 4 (2020) is the better choice. The bigger screen is better for productivity and it has the Smart Connector for those keyboard accessories.

The sixth-gen iPad mini ticks a lot of boxes; it’s good looking, boasts a larger display without an increased footprint and it’s among the most capable of tablets of any size thanks to the inclusion of the A15 Bionic. That power provides a top-notch tablet experience free of stutter or lag, even in top-end mobile games and when running multiple apps simultaneously, and it’ll likely stay that way for quite some time. It’s great for one-handed use, making it the perfect portable iPad for catching up on social media and watching YouTube videos, and the small dimensions mean the display has a greater pixel density than any other iPad, though the lack of a 120Hz refresh rate means there’s still room for improvement. The 8.3in display offers extra screen real estate that’s perfect for both gaming and social media, but it’s not the best for split-screen activities, with text becoming too small to comfortably view - especially in portrait orientation.

The iPad mini gets a huge set of updates, right from design, display, processor, and even the fantastic aesthetics. And, these are some of the reasons that make it indispensable for a wide range of users and use cases - be it for educational purposes like online classes, multimedia usage, gaming, reading, and more. For those who want to know whether the iPad mini can replace their laptops? Well, you might have to wait a couple of years for that until iPadOS becomes more capable. But, until that time, the iPad mini is a great all-rounder that can be your companion device after your smartphone or laptop. So, who can buy the new iPad mini? If you want to buy your first iPad, then the new iPad mini is a great choice, and it also comes with the latest processor. Users who are still stuck on older iPad models can also consider switching to the iPad mini.

The new Apple iPad mini is a great little tablet - it has a bright 8.3-inch display with good contrast, proper stereo speakers and one of the most powerful chipsets - things that make the iPad mini a superb multimedia and gaming device. The sixth-generation iPad mini also brings Apple Pencil 2 support, this new cool design, and the universal USB-C port that opens a door for many third-party accessories. The tablet can also be used as a second screen to any modern Mac thanks to Sidecar support. Finally, the good battery life and the access to the rich Apple AppStore can easily sell this iPad mini well. That is not bad per se - Apple offers great iCloud sync and subscription services, there are many games that run better on iPads, you get at least 5 years of software updates, plus - there is a reason the iPads are the best-selling tablets in the world - Apple pioneered this device and shaped what it needs to do and what - doesn't. And Apple has since abided by these rules, and every iPad has turned successful.

The iPad mini 6 is a return to form. Apple could have abandoned its miniature iPad, but instead, it gave the mini the update it desperately needed. This Gen 6 model is better than the 2019 model in every measurable way. A larger display with thinner bezels, significantly faster performance, USB-C charging, Touch ID, Apple Pencil Gen 2 support, and optional 5G connectivity highlight a complete redesign of the petite slate. In the end, Apple did exactly what it needed to do to breathe new life into the iPad mini, an excellent all-around tablet whose pint-sized chassis makes it a joy to have at home or on the go.

Something strange happens to us when we confront a gadget that’s been … condensed. Witness the recurring phenomenon of the mini phone; the mini Cooper; the “mini Winnie.” (Winnebago Man fans here? Anyone?) Point is, things that seem smaller than they “should be” tickle the same parts of our brains that help us believe that pile of circuits is actually our new robot friend (RIP Jibo); and also the aspirational parts of our brains that generations of advertisers long ago learned to leverage. “Just think of all the things I could do with a tablet this tiny," I thought upon first unboxing the new iPad mini. "That journal I’ve been putting off; the Moleskin replacement that’ll finally get my studies on track; that nascent cooking interest that was just waiting for the right digital cookbook. My new life could be just on the other side of a five-hundred-dollar hit to my charge card.” Sadly, the new iPad mini will not do these things for you. As my friend David Imel said of a different gadget, “things don’t really make you happy."

All of Apple's tablets are easily portable, but if you're looking for one that you can slip into a coat pocket, the fifth-generation iPad mini won't let you down. It's incredibly powerful, with a battery that can last through the day, and if you’re willing to pay more, global 5G and LTE connectivity. The base model iPad costs nearly $200 less and will serve most people just fine, earning it our Editors' Choice. But if you require more power in a smaller form factor, the iPad mini is a potent alternative.

There are some minor annoyances. For example, the lack of a headphone jack can be bothersome if you don’t have wireless headphones or earbuds. And I lost count of the number of times I flipped open the Smart Folio only to find that there’s no keyboard to type on. But that version costs nearly one grand. The second-generation Apple Pencil is S$189 and Apple’s own Smart Folio cover is another S$89. Pretty soon you’d realise that for about the same money, you could have gotten an M1 MacBook Air or any number of entry-level ultraportable Windows notebooks. That said, readers who intend to stream most of their content or have much of their data in the cloud might be able to make do with 64GB.

The iPad mini is a fine little tablet. It’s quick, neatly designed and strikes a fine balance between screen size and function. I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. That said, I’m still not 100% sure who the iPad mini is for. It’s clearly not a productivity machine. Although you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard, the lack of smart contacts means there’s no official Smart Keyboard Folio or Magic Keyboard to go with it and, in any case, I think the screen is probably a touch too small for working on documents and spreadsheets on a regular basis. As I’ve suggested above, the iPad mini (2021) could be seen as an alternative to a smartphone for those who want a larger screen but who can’t face forking out big money for a Samsung Galaxy Fold3 5G. But this also seems a bit of a niche use case. In the end, I’m certain that plenty of folk will end up buying, and loving, the iPad mini (2021). But on the flip side, either of its siblings – the iPad Air or 10.2in iPad – would make a more practical purchase.

Apple’s iPad Pro range is an impressive thing, and for the right person – with the right workload – the promise of a tablet that can replace your traditional laptop is not an exaggeration. All the same, though, not everybody fits into that category, and not everybody wants, needs, or can even accommodate a large tablet. That’s what makes the iPad mini so appealing. Trying to use one as a do-everything machine probably would be a shortcut to frustration. As a companion device, though, it makes far more sense, and it’s priced accordingly too. I’ve found I use the iPad mini much more frequently than I do the iPad Pro or iPad Air, simply because it’s more portable. Whether that idea of another device to join, rather than replace, your laptop, phone, and other gadgets strikes you as ridiculous or charming may well be the biggest factor in deciding if the new iPad mini is for you or not. For some it’ll absolutely occupy a sweet spot in their life; others will find themselves served just fine with a bigger iPhone.

I like the iPad Mini because it can do all the multitasking tricks a big iPad can do, but most of the time I end up using it like a giant phone. I like it better than a giant phone because the screen is even bigger still than that device. (Though why Apple doesn’t add some sort of split-screen to the iPhone Pro Max phones is beyond me.) Most of all, I like the iPad Mini because its physical size changes my relationship with the content I’m engaging with on the screen and — most importantly — with what’s happening around me. I physically can hold it further away from my eyes, which as a human body in the real world opens me up more than a phone does. The iPad Mini is not just a small iPad. Even though the change in screen size doesn’t change how the software works (to its detriment), it does change how you use the software. That’s why it’s great for me — and it’s why my advice to anybody considering one is to think about whether or not it would truly be great for them

The new iPad mini 6 is unrivaled in the small tablet market, offering top-tier performance, solid cameras, great sound, Apple Pencil support and all the pro iPadOS apps you may want on a tablet. With its redesigned, lightweight build, perfect for one-handed use, the 2021 iPad mini is arguably the best premium tablet for reading and note-taking. For any other scenario you may be finding the bigger iPads unwieldy and your phone too small, this iPad is likely to be just right. Alternatively, this tablet's versatility and size make it fantastic for single-purpose use cases like turning it into your dedicated car GPS, your smart home hub, a display for your drone and so on. While it may seem that there's no place for premium small tablets in 2021, anyone will likely be able to come up with a cool way to use the new iPad mini for making their life a bit more convenient.

The 2021 iPad Mini 6, Apple’s smallest tablet, is easy on the hands, but not as easy on the wallet as the previous generation. That said, it offers a great deal of improvements and upgrades over older Mini models, as Apple realizes folks buy the Mini for its smaller size rather than small price. The iPadOS 15 tablet has a larger 8.3” IPS Liquid Retina display while having a smaller footprint than the outgoing model. It has the same Apple A15 CPU as the iPhone 13 family of phones, and is available in two storage capacities. 5G cellular is optional, Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5 is standard and Touch ID is now embedded in the power button on the side rather than taking up vast real estate on the front bezel.

I think it’s safe to say that many were surprised last week when Apple started its “California Streaming” event by announcing not one, but two new iPads. I certainly didn’t see it coming. But that’s exactly what happened, Apple announced a long-awaited new iPad Mini and a new iPad. Let’s start with the exciting stuff. The iPad Mini. This is the sixth-generation iPad Mini and it’s one that we have been waiting for a long time. If you remember, the last time Apple announced a new iPad Mini was back in 2019.

We're impressed by the 6th generation iPad mini. The new design means it looks modern, the bigger screen is a bonus, and the improved FaceTime camera rectifies one of the biggest embarrassments of the last generation. The adoption of Apple's leading mobile chip means the iPad mini currently surpasses the iPad Air, so, as long as you think small is perfect then it's a great choice.

Post-Apple’s recent event, the company faced criticism for a raft of ostensibly incremental updates, rather than offering anything revolutionary. And, arguably, the iPad Mini is following what went before, namely the iPad Pro redesign and last year’s iPad Air. What’s important is whether new and changed features are meaningful, and for iPad Mini this latest update is transformative, whether considering the design, display, connectivity or raw power. All that needs to be balanced against a sizeable price hike and your personal needs. But if you prize portability, don’t need traditional keyboard input for your main iPad use cases, and have the eyes for a smaller, sharper display, the new iPad Mini is an excellent package.

The new iPad mini is one of the few tech products to release this year to really excite me, and in my time with it, the tiny tablet hasn't disappointed me. The small size is great and having an iPad with 2nd-gen Apple Pencil tucked into my camera bag to edit/review pictures and photos on the go is very useful. If you know that the small form factor and USB-C port on the new iPad mini will mesh well with your workflow, you can’t go wrong with Apple’s tiny tablet. However, if you just need an iPad to browse the web and you don’t need the small size, you’ll likely be served just as well as by the base model iPad.

The iPad mini has been the best small tablet available for a while, and the 6th-generation continues to hold that top spot. The $499 slab looks and feels a bit different thanks to a much-needed design update, which includes an “all-screen” design with an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, a power button with TouchID, improved cameras that support Center Stage and USB-C charging. All of those updates, plus support for WiFi 6, 5G and the second-generation Apple Pencil, make the iPad mini feel like a shrunken version of the iPad Air. But the niche appeal of the mini remains -- it’s all about size for this iPad, and there isn’t a better option out there for those who know an 8-inch tablet will fill a void in their lives.

This is a great little tablet for those who want a straightforward slate - not a laptop replacement - that will easily slip into a bag. The only catch is that it might cost more than you would perhaps want for a device like this, and there are still various Apple technologies - MagSafe, FaceID, ProMotion - absent from the features list. Still, it's a super update for the series and a tablet that's proud to be just that.

On to the iPad. This is the ninth generation iPad and it’s mainly a spec-bump update to last year’s 8th generation iPad. On the outside, nothing has really changed. The dimensions are the same, they weigh about the same, and they have the same buttons and ports in the same places. This means this iPad is the only tablet that Apple currently makes that uses the Lightning port. Support for accessories is also unchanged. So this iPad still only works with Apple’s first-generation Apple Pencil and there’s a Smart Connector that works with Apple’s Smart Keyboard.

The iPad mini 6 feels like the ultimate expression of what Apple always wanted it to be: a highly flexible computer in the smallest possible space. This upgrade makes it as capable for creative work as for entertainment, and despite the price hike, it's an excellent buy as an ultraportable companion device.

The iPad mini supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, to which it connects magnetically. You’ll also notice a new pair of built-in speakers designed to provide stereo sound in landscape orientation. And once you’ve chosen from one of four colours – purple, pink, starlight and space grey – Apple is also releasing a new set of slim smart folio covers to match.
