Reviews for the Apple iPhone 16 Pro

So here we are at the end of another iPhone review. What does the iPhone 16 Pro/Max give you that the iPhone 15 Pro/Max doesn’t? Well, in my opinion, not an awful lot. If you’ve got an iPhone 15 Pro and you want a longer zoom without having to get a bigger phone, then there’s good news there. And the extra pixels on the ultrawide lens sometimes come in handy.Otherwise, image quality is more or less the same, and even experts like me will struggle to find the differences. For the average person, it’ll be nigh-on impossible to tell. The new Camera Control button is nice if you really want a physical button in that location, but after years of not having one and using the screen to control my phone’s camera, I’m not convinced it’s altogether essential.

The iPhone 16 Pro strikes the best balance of size and capability with a big-enough screen and all the high-end trimmings squeezed into a relatively small frame. The addition of the 5x optical zoom brings Apple’s smaller Pro up to parity with its monster 16 Pro Max, so the choice for iPhone buyers is now simply about size and price, not capability. The faster chip and camera upgrades, such as the fun photographic styles, are welcome. The new camera control button is a mixed bag: very handy for quickly launching the camera but fiddly to use to adjust settings and difficult to press hard enough to capture an image without shaking the phone. It needs some work to be great and is not ideally placed for the left-handed.

The iPhone 16 Pro is an easy handset to recommend if you want a flagship Apple smartphone, and that’s not just because it has completely replaced the excellent iPhone 15 Pro. It’s a formidable smartphone for watching movies, and it’s equally impressive when it comes to music too. Ultimately, it comes down to subtlety – something other manufacturers seem to overlook in favour of chasing the brightest screens or longest list of audio features. Apple’s attention to detail is practically unrivalled, and that enhances every aspect of the 16 Pro’s AV experience in a meaningful way.

As it stands, even without Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are solid phones with interesting features that I think some users will really like. Those fussy about photography will appreciate the freedom of Photographic Styles, while creators will almost certainly love the ability to be able to create 4K 120fps content with just a phone. And even if you don't care for these things, surely you can appreciate the improved performance and battery life. That said, we will revisit these phones when the first wave of Apple Intelligence features becomes available and see if change and improve the user experience in any significant way.

The iPhone 16 Pro brings all the good things you'd expect from it. The premium build makes a strong first impression and if Apple's talk on materials is at least half true, it should be a long-lasting impression too. Improvements to battery life across the lineup didn't skip the 16 Pro and it's got pretty much the best endurance in this somewhat hypothetical small Pro class. Also Pro is its camera system, now upgraded with better reach on the telephoto end and a new ultrawide (that has its small missteps). The Camera Control is another potential plus for the right kind of user. Some of the Apple-specific downsides remain - the slow charging remains slow against direct rivals, not to mention comparing against the best in business.

The Apple iPhone 16 Pro is the flagship phone for the world's biggest tech company, and it duly delivers in the categories we expect it to: power and ease of use. The new 48MP camera is also improved from last year in an attempt to keep up with the best in the field, while transferring from Android to iOS has been made more seamless. However, charging is still tortuously slow, the smaller model's screen, while slightly larger than last year, feels a little too small, and the overall lack of innovation makes me question whether this is a needed upgrade for iPhone 15 owners, or indeed whether you should be choosing the Pro over the regular iPhone 16...

The iPhone 16 Pro is a well-made, powerful, and high-quality smartphone in almost every sense. I’ve had a great time using it, but is it the iPhone you should rush out and buy? I’m not so sure. The biggest problem with the iPhone 16 Pro is just how good the regular iPhone 16 is. It has the same Action button and Camera Control, a very similar primary camera, equally great performance, and — in my experience — better battery life. It also has the same iOS 18 software, will get the same Apple Intelligence features, and has a lighter, more comfortable, and more colorful design.

Now, for the verdict. Should you buy the iPhone 16 Pro (Max)? That really depends on what you’re looking for out of a phone and what phone you are currently using. If you’re on an iPhone 14 Pro or older, I’d say it’s a good upgrade. But if you’re on an iPhone 15 Pro, then it’s not really worth upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro (even though I did). If you’re an Android user thinking about switching to the iPhone to see what the hype is about, the iPhone 16 Pro is a really great option to check out iPhone for the first time. It’s their best iPhone they’ve ever made, because of course it is. It’s very solid for the price. And in some cases, cheaper than some Android flagships these days.

If you own an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro, you can sit out this year -- or at least wait for the arrival of Apple Intelligence. I really like the Camera Control button and the way Apple handles Photographic Styles and Moods with the iPhone 16 Pro, but these features cater to my specific interest in smartphone photography and address my core complaints about how the iPhone 15 Pro processes images. If this resonates with you, upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max might be worth it.

Apple has done a fine job retooling the iPhone 16 Pro. It contains meaningful updates this year that include a larger display, a turbocharged processor, a sharper telephoto camera, and a big jump in battery life. If you want a reasonably sized flagship phone with tons of power, it's easy to recommend the 16 Pro. If you want an even bigger screen or the absolute longest battery life from an iPhone, the 16 Pro Max is the obvious choice. But it's also worth noting that you probably don't need the increase in power or the professional camera features offered by the Pro models, so the regular iPhone 16 is our Editors' Choice winner and our top recommendation for most people.

The iPhone 16 Pro is a really nice smartphone for anybody who's already invested in Apple's ecosystem. Whether you're a Mac or iPad user that wants to start seamlessly connecting devices together, or someone like me who is heavily invested in the ecosystem and just in need of a phone upgrade, the iPhone 16 Pro is definitely top-notch. Its new A18 Pro SoC is super fast, the design is sleek and lightweight, the 120 Hz LTPO OLED display is gorgeous and bright, and the camera system is extremely versatile and capable. But most of that has been true for years. If you're already using an iPhone 14 Pro, it's an evolutionary upgrade. If you're on a 13 Pro, there's definitely enough here that would warrant a second look.

With the slight tweaks to screen size and battery life, the iPhone 16 Pro is a better phone than previous Pros. But slightly so. The changes in camera quality are there, but they are subtle, and it's the Photographic Style feature that might prove the most important one for the way your pictures look rather than any new camera. The faster processor only seems to matter for the most demanding gaming tasks and fast capture of ProRAW files, but we doubt you would notice the speed-up in daily use. And the Camera Control button might be one of the more over-hyped features around, especially when it comes to its trackpad-like features. And most importantly, the iPhone 16 Pro is just not a complete phone yet without all the Apple Intelligence feature coming later in 2024, and some even in 2025.

These aren't inexpensive phones, and while Apple is counting on its upcoming AI features to help sell them, the reality is that the iPhone 15 Pro will also support Apple Intelligence. More battery life and ever-so-slightly larger screens are welcome, and the same goes for the camera upgrades (though ironically the biggest leap is more in how you finesse Apple's computational photography, not so much the sensor changes and such). You'd be forgiven, though, if — after Apple's exceedingly smooth upgrade and data transfer process — you were left looking at your familiar home screen on your familiar-feeling new iPhone 16 Pro and wondering "wait, so what exactly is the big difference, here?"

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro have managed to find another level in a category where yearly upgrades are incremental at best. I hope I’ve been able to give you some guidance on whether you should choose an iPhone 16, an iPhone 16 Plus or to go with one of the more expensive Pro models. It really comes down to whether you need/want the high-end camera features of the more Pro variants, or demand a 120Hz display. If not, save yourself between $200 and $400 by getting one of the more affordable models. And I’m impressed enough with the AI capabilities in the iPhone 16 that you might even consider upgrading from its immediate predecessor — something that’s almost never true. If you stick with your iPhone 15, you’ll never get Apple Intelligence. Just something to think about.

Apple also claims the new A18 Pro chip is much more power efficient and will result in the iPhone 16 Pro Max having the longest battery life of any iPhone yet. We'll also challenge that claim with our own battery tests. The camera system upgrades to a 48 megapixel sensor for the ultrawide camera, which should result in better macro photos and a number of other improvements. We'll be testing that as well in a new set of ZDNET smartphone camera tests. The AI features that Apple mentioned this summer at WWDC, including the newly upgraded Siri, won't arrive until the iOS 18.1 update -- and even then, they'll still be in beta and some of the features won't come until iOS 18.2 or later. But when the AI features do finally arrive, Apple's new flagship supercomputer in your pocket looks like it's going to have the oomph to run them without breaking a sweat.

Choosing between the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is a matter of prioritizing ergonomics over screen size and battery. Fresh off a screen size boost, the Pro is more appealing, if (still) far from the Max in terms of productivity and entertainment capabilities. The Max is also worth spending extra on for its longer battery life. But still, some might find the Max to be a tad too big, especially with a rugged case on. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at a dollar under $1,000 for a version with 128 GB of storage. The Max costs $200 more, but it comes with 256 GB of memory at minimum. Paying up for that much memory on the 16 Pro brings the price up $100, and closes the cost gap, leaving screen size and battery capacity as the only decisions to make before ordering.

If you have money to blow, I highly recommend the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I mean, we're talking about 25 hours of battery life here. As someone who is big on power efficiency, that alone is worth the price. Some are excited about 4K video capture at 120Hz, but the real star feature here is Audio Mix, which gives your videos a noticeable, studio-esque improvement in sound quality. So if you're a content creator who wants an edge over your competitors, this is the phone for you.

As a content creator and a photographer, I feel these new iPhones are tailor-made for me. I’ve seen people online saying that it’s not a huge upgrade from the 14 Pro, which sure, the 14 Pro is an amazing phone and offered a nice jump up in camera quality at the time and still has very capable photography optics. However, it’s still missing much of the pro software and video support that Apple has added over the past two generations. Things like LOG, Audio Mix, the Fusion camera and Camera Controls are game chargers for creators. I never want to use an iPhone without dedicated camera buttons again. Even for capturing behind-the-scenes footage, the iPhone 16 proves to be worth the upgrade.

So that is the iPhone 16 Pro… so far. As it exists today, it’s a remarkably iterative update to the iPhone 15 Pro — it’s hard to find reasons to upgrade from last year’s model. And I’m not at all convinced that it’s worth upgrading to the 16 Pro from older Pro models just yet, either — the Camera Control button and Action Button are nice but not game-changing, and unless you’re excited about dialing in the new Photographic Styles and the new tone control, you might find the even brighter and flatter photos to actually be a step backward in photo processing. If you can’t tell, I am personally thrilled by the tone control, so this is an easy choice for me, but it feels like it’s worth waiting a tick for everyone else.

Even without Apple Intelligence, the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max have a slew of upgrades including a good battery life, outstanding photo and video chops and iOS 18. Apple called the new A18 Pro chip as powerful as high-end desktop PCs, which sounds like hyperbole, but the above features are convincing enough to make me think it may be at least as powerful as high-end desktops from a couple of years ago. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max both look like solid upgrades, but the iPhone 16 Pro could be the better value. You get the same 5x telephoto zoom as the larger Pro Max in a smaller design, and the screen is big enough where you might not have Max envy. Regular phone users will be able to get better photos, longer battery life and cool pro-ish features like the Action Button and Camera Control with this year’s 16 models. Running from the Apple Keynote to the expansive demo room right behind it, I was confronted by long tables of new products, including iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max phones on pedestals (as they should be), and hoards of excited media and analysts who crowded so tightly around the products that I could scarcely get close enough to sniff them. Lucky for me, many Apple representatives were milling about who would almost surreptitiously remove the gleaming handsets from their pockets and then just as casually walk you through features. That was how I finally got close to the iPhone 16 Pro, a now 6.3-inch iOS 18 device that is slightly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro while offering noticeably more screen real estate. Apple managed this trick by shrinking the bezel so it's just a thin dark line surrounding the Super Retina XDR display. Apparently, Apple figured out how to reroute some of the screen traces from the edges to underneath the display, which made the razor-thin bezel possible.Length 3

Tech giant Apple put new artificial intelligence (AI) features to the front and centre when it unveiled its four new iPhones that it said are designed from the ground up to take advantage of the technology. The four new smartphones will use AI to help users with every day administrative tasks as well as offer text and image editing capabilities – similar to tools already launched by rivals Google, Samsung and Honor on their flagship phones.

With its bigger screen size, slightly bigger battery, upgraded cameras, faster MagSafe and, most importantly, new AI features, the iPhone 16 Pro shapes up like a big upgrade. Maybe even the biggest in the iPhone 16 family. It might not be a ground-breaking change, but it's improving the fundamental elements of the smartphone experience and that matters. If you own anything older than the 15 Pro, you might be tempted by Apple Intelligence alone, but keep in mind that those AI features will be rolling out slowly. But still, this seems like a good moment to upgrade, as Apple itself mentioned some good trade-in deals in store. And what does the future hold? Well, rumors say we will get a big iPhone 17 Pro redesign in 2025, so if you want an iPhone that actually looks different, well, you'd have to wait another year.

Lastly, what I noticed about the keynote was less emphasis on generative AI for photos and even fairly conservative use of AI for things like summarizing information from emails or messages or using Siri as a more powerful personal assistant. It’s worth noting that as of the writing of this article, the majority of these new AI-based tools have not yet been released and will be given with future updates. A young man leans on a table with his right hand touching his cheek, wearing a beige coat. The image is repeated four times with different color filters: black and white, blue, cyan, and green backgrounds. The only real use of generative AI in photography seems to be for making custom emojis and stickers or for erasing unwanted subjects in the backgrounds of images.

只有较少的手机有很大的屏幕。
大尺寸可以让屏幕有更高的分辨率。因而例如字体等的细节将会更丰富。不过另一方面,小屏幕的功耗会较低,而设备也会更轻盈小巧,售价更低。
