Reviews for the Asus NovaGo TP370QL
PC with smartphone SoC. The Asus NovaGo is one of the first devices equipped with a Snapdragon 835 processor, which is usually used for smartphones and tablets. We got our hands on a pre-production sample and tested how the compact convertible handles Windows and daily tasks.

Fortunately, Qualcomm is already working on next-gen processors designed specifically for notebooks, and ARM has revealed its own roadmap for laptop-class processors. It remains to be seen whether any of those developments will lead to ARM-based notebooks and tablets that offer the level of performance you’d expect from a PC with an Intel or AMD chip. There will always be some issues with app compatibility, but at this point I’m just hoping future Windows on ARM devices will offer better performance reliability for the apps that they can run.

If the Asus NovaGo intrigues you, despite all its caveats and inconveniences, then I can very hesitantly recommend it. Asus and Qualcomm certainly satisfy the basic premise of an all-day, always-connected PC, a necessary evolutionary step for the platform. But when one of the vendors involved with the product recommends that you join the Windows Insider beta program to apply bug fixes as they’re implemented, this is a problem.

The Asus NovaGo convertible notebook offers incredible battery life and persistent wireless connectivity, but a range of bugs and app restrictions currently restrict it to a user who doesn't mind its limitations.

At least not the first generation. Hopefully lackluster reviews like this one don’t prevent Asus, Qualcomm, Microsoft, and other partners from making second-gen and third-gen Windows on ARM hardware, because I’m looking forward to seeing what’s possible in the future even if I’m not thrilled with what’s available today.

For now, I struggle to see the appeal of the NovaGo as a primary workhorse, but it's more than capable as a secondary laptop specifically for productivity on the go. It's a valiant first effort from ASUS, Qualcomm and Microsoft that will hopefully get better the second go around.

One of the first Qualcomm-powered laptops, the NovaGo has long battery life and 4G connectivity, but weak performance and limited storage hold it back.

The Asus NovaGo makes good use of its Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 brain for long battery life and always-on cellular, but the performance feels more like a phone than laptop.

One of the first Windows 10 laptops with a Snapdragon 835 processor, the Asus NovaGo is a 2-in-1 convertible that promises long battery life and always-on LTE connectivity, but suffers from sluggish software.

On the surface, the Asus NovaGo is just another laptop with a 360 degree hinge. However, it's what's hidden that's important here. The Snapdragon 835 brings with it a data connection wherever you go and amazing battery life. At least, that's the theory until we test it fully.

One of the things that might make you sit up and take notice is that the Asus NovaGo has already declared that it will cost $799 in the 8GB/256GB configuration, but there will be a 4GB/64GB version for $599, which is cheaper than most Snapdragon 835 smartphones.

The idea of these always-connected, Snapdragon 835 laptops is seriously interesting. Being connected to fast LTE everywhere, without the faff of tethering or hunting for Wi-Fi, surely must be the future. The idea of having a laptop that can comfortably last a day, or more, without a charge is fantastic too. So let’s hope it lives up to the billing.

The Asus NovaGo blends wireless connectivity of the future with ports of the past in an average-looking 2-in-1 foldable laptop design. It promises better than all-day battery life and and an amazing 22 hours of video playback. We'll continue to test that and its performance in a full review coming soon.

What we can say right now is that ASUS and Qualcomm have a shot at creating something really special that significantly improves certain aspects of PC computing. Fro our discussions with employees of those companies, it is fair to say that the expectations are realistic: from a computing standpoint, these laptops are designed to provide extraordinary battery life to very common usage models.
