It’s fast, that’s for sure, and if that’s why you want the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, truly the ultimate gaming phone, then you won’t be disappointed. Regular phone fans, or those looking for the best phone all-around, should stay away, but that’s not a criticism. This phone is for gamers in the same way a Ferrari is for fast drivers, and if you want a car that does everything, you buy an SUV. If you want the fastest phone ever, and you relish the quirks and weird options that make it so, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the phone to buy.

Undoubtedly, the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the best gaming phone to date which is no surprise. It has the best specs in its segment with a great display, large battery capacity and software settings that can be easily set. It also comes with a nice cooling fan, so we think this phone is worth RM4999. That being said, if you're looking for cheaper options due to budget constraints, you can still check out the Black Shark Pro 5 with a 108MP camera at RM3999. There's also the Red Magic 8 Pro, which has the same chipset but is slightly more affordable at RM4299. The choice is yours.

While there’s not a huge difference between the new ROG Phone 7 series now compared to its predecessor — the upgrades are typical and expected. Nothing mind-blowing really, but what else can you expect from a smartphone that has everything you’d wish for when it comes to mobile gaming? In hindsight, it’s really hard to top yourself. This could be a blessing and a curse — a blessing because you’re always the top choice in your category and you hold the trophy; on the other hand, it is also a curse because it will be very hard to exceed expectations coming from previous generations and fans might find it more wise to pick up the older unit instead of this new one if the performance and feature difference does not significantly favor the 7 Ultimate. Nonetheless, the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the best gaming phone in the 2023 market.

In what seems to be an annual occurrence. Asus releases the best gaming smartphone on the market. It's hard to argue with that. However, is the title 'King of Gaming Phones' really relevant? Battery life is excellent, making it the best on the market in my opinion. The 165 Hz AMOLED screen is sublime for consuming content. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2's performance is top-notch, and the temperature control is top-notch as well. But the photo quality is still tragically disappointing for such an expensive smartphone. I'm sick of the excuses made to include macro sensors and middling sensors on the grounds that this is a gaming smartphone. Asus is also always a rather poor advocate of a decent update policy. Personally, I'm much less enthusiastic about mobile gaming. We have overpowered machines that are perfectly capable of running AAA titles which is very close to a console experience.

With there effectively being only one competitor left, the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate doesn’t have to do much to entice mobile gamers to pick it over the one remaining competition. Which probably explains the why it’s so similar to the generation that came before. That being said, the company did make improvements to the cooling system of the phone, which is not something that is usually only appreciated by those who engage in the hobby for hours on end. On that note, as mentioned earlier, the presence of the cooling vent is the only difference between the base and Ultimate models. With that in mind, hardcore gamers should have no real reason to pick the base model over the Ultimate.

If gaming is your priority and if you are ready to compromise a little on the camera performance, this is currently the most capable smartphone that is available in the market. A lower price could have attracted a bigger audience but the gaming hardware used in the phone aptly serves their purpose. Asus didn’t cut any corners with the smartphone’s gaming performance and it will surely help pro-gamers to stay ahead of the curve. If you don’t want to invest in a separate handheld console as well as a smartphone, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is quite an impressive blend of the two rolled-in one powerhouse of a device.

The phone does feel like a complete package for gaming enthusiasts as the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate comes with the best specs offered in the flagship category phones. But like always, we will only recommend you to purchase this phone if you have certain money to purchase this device. Yet, if we have to choose an alternative, we suggest you go with the ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro. However, if you prefer something fancy, you can also consider looking for the Vivo X Fold Plus. It got better multitasking tasking attributes with foldable elements. However, Asus is a laser focus on delivering great value when it comes to the mobile gaming experience. It barely gives completion to some brands. If you want to experience high-level gaming and gaming only, you should consider the ROG Phone 7 Utmiate for sure!

Today we durability test the worlds most powerful gaming smartphone, the ROG phone 7 Ultimate. Consistently considered the worlds best gaming phone – and also the most expensive. This year the ROG phone 7 Ultimate has a motorized exhaust port, which should make the thermal cooling system almost 200% more efficient. Hopefully this ROG phone 7 ultimate does better on the durability test than last years phone… or the year before that… Since both of the Previous generations of the ROG Phone lineup have done pretty terrible from a durability perspective.

After about a month, this is our review of the ROG Phone 7. I delay this review for so long is because I finally got to know the local price, and I also want to spend more time with it to get a complete feel of it. As usual, we’ll be going through our usual 8 points – but I’ll be adding one more to talk about the gaming experience with all those special features. Let’s begin. Hah, I should stop ranting now. Okay, so the ROG Phone 7 is still the best gaming phone despite the minimal upgrades and the removal of the Kunai Gamepad.

The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate may be a gaming phone but it’s one that does so many things well that it makes for an excellent daily driver for plenty of consumers. Even a non-gamer would benefit immensely from this given its powerful chip, good camera performance and class-leading battery life at RM4,999. It really depends on whether it suits your needs and if other flagships can satisfy your needs better.

Despite looking very similar to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate proves that ASUS knows how to make gaming phones well with its balanced, gamer-focused design and gamer-centric accessories that aim to give you the best experience even during long gaming sessions. The remaining factor that is unanswered is how much the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will be priced in the Philippines. For comparision, the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate was priced at Php 69,995 last year. While the global pricing of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is 1399 Euros or around Php 85.5k, our best guess is that it will be priced somewhere around Php 70k.

This phone is big, powerful, and too expensive for most people—we'd have to assume. ASUS hasn't specified the price for the Ultimate variant, but the regular ASUS ROG Phone 7 will retail for $1,000. You likely aren't most people, though, if you are on page-three of a gaming phone review. So, perhaps you like the idea of carrying a phone that can tear through even the most demanding mobile games without breaking a sweat even if it's crazy expensive. That's the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. This device plays the most demanding mobile games of today in the highest visual and auditory quality, and it even does it for a long time between charges. ASUS has improved its software over the years, going from some painful shortcomings to only a few minor annoyances. We won't tell you the ASUS build of Android is as smooth or intuitive as what you get on a Pixel, but it's not a deal breaker either. The bugs are relatively minor, and ASUS managed to launch this phone with the latest Android software with several promised updates. We'd like to see longer update support a la the Pixel 7 and Galaxy S, but the two-year OS and four-year security guarantee offer here isn't bad. A cooling fan for a phone may seem a bit bit silly to some, and it's definitely not easy to carry around, but it does work as advertised. With the AeroActive Cooler attached, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 never throttles. In addition, if you like fancy RGB lights, the cooler has you covered. But at the end of the day, we're still talking about mobile games. Will a few extra frames per second matter in Apex Legends or Fortnite? Likely not, unless you're a pro gamer or eSports aficionado. Is a better, more powerful mobile gaming experience worth hundreds of extra dollars over other more traditional flagship phones? Not for most smartphone buyers, but in the gaming niche, the ROG Phone 7 makes makes sense and delivers serious performance where it counts.

The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate isn't your average gaming phone. ASUS made dozens of changes to the underlying Android kernel to deliver the ultimate gaming experience, and that's immediately evident the moment you start using the phone. This is a phone built to blaze through visually-demanding games, and it manages to do just that. Combine that with an aggressive design, sublime 165Hz screen, astounding hardware, a gargantuan battery, clean software with more customizability than any other phone, and you get an overall package that is just marvelous. This is the fastest phone I've ever used, and if you want a flagship that stands out, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate should be on the top of your list.

Unboxing the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate with a review of the gaming performance, battery life and beyond. I've been testing the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate for a few days with Genshin Impact, Call of Duty etc and here's my impressions of (the best?) gaming smartphone of 2023. As far as specs and design goes, the Asus ROG Phone 7 series is very similar vs the 6D etc. The biggest upgrade is that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which ensures super-smooth gaming experiences, whatever you fancy. That near-7-inch AMOLED screen is another stunner with 165Hz refresh support, while the stereo speaker setup is unbelievably loud. Asus has bunged its usual Game Genie features onto the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (and regular model). And even with X Mode enabled and Genshin Impact set to maximum visuals, I found the battery life on this gaming phone was good for five solid hours of action. So it ain't cheap, but the Asus ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are the greatest gaming phones when it comes to features and accessory support. Of course, Red Magic and Black Shark rivals offer the Snapdragon performance on a stricter budget, if you can't stretch to this premium price.

ASUS has outdone itself once again when it comes to making what really does feel like the best phone available for mobile gaming. With a few key improvements to the cooling, and updated hardware for even better performance, the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are the cream of the crop in this small niche of the smartphone market. But neither phone is perfect and they won’t be for everyone. No matter how good the device is, there are simply going to be more suitable options for some users. And that’s ok. Not everyone is into mobile gaming or into it enough to warrant spending the higher price that ASUS demands. Not to mention the camera definitely takes a backseat to all the gaming features. While more than fine for my personal needs, there are better smartphone cameras out there. And you may be a user that values that more than what ASUS is offering here. ASUS plans to launch the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate in the US sometime in late Q2. Which probably puts the official US release closer to Summertime. As for pricing, the phone will start at $999.99 for the ROG Phone 7. Pricing for the Ultimate model hasn’t been confirmed yet. If you don’t want to wait for the new model, ASUS is still selling it’s excellent ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro devices.

Asus states that a massive 4 million hours are spent gaming on ROG Phones around the world every week, a figure that increased by 36% during 2022. With those kinds of numbers, it’s hard to still pass mobile gaming off as a niche, as there’s clearly a big audience for a phone that makes mobile gaming more fun and you a better player. The ROG Phone series has long led the pack, and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate continues that tradition. It’s enormously capable, the design is cool without being silly, the special features are well thought-out and useful, and the software is mature and reliable. It’s definitely focused on gaming, but the twist is if you’re after a strong multimedia phone in general, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate fits the bill too. It’s expensive, but so is every top-spec flagship smartphone today. It’s not a big leap forward over the ROG Phone 6 Pro, but Asus has refined and improved the device in all the right places. Is it only for mobile gamers? Yes, and no. The vast majority of the features are most relevant to people who play top, power-intensive games for a minimum of 30 minutes every day — but it’s also worth considering if video and audio performance is also important. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate excels in all these areas and provided you’re happy to accept the compromises, this is a great purchase and a phone that will last you for years.

The ROG Phone 7 models really aren't for everyone. They only make sense for those who value gaming performance above all else. If you're extremely competitive, like being able to play games comfortably for long hours, and if you will use the triggers and software tweaks, you are Asus' target audience. At these prices, you could buy a very capable and slick modern flagship Android device or even an iPhone. However, if you're the type to spend a few lakhs on a good gaming laptop and upgrade your desktop PC every few years, the ROG Phone 7's price won't feel like such a stretch.

Overall, not a lot has changed about the ROG Phone for yet another generation. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate gets the latest and greatest chipset Qualcomm has to offer and a few other specs touch-ups here and there, like the boosted display performance. Fundamentally, the core formula hasn't been altered, and that's arguably a good thing. Asus' laser focus on delivering the best mobile gaming experience remains barely challenged for yet another year, with most manufacturers focusing on creating more mainstream products. Even in the face of an ever-shrinking accessory ecosystem, we still believe the ROG Phone remains on top of the gaming crowd. Their dedication to gaming remains so impressive that it alone earns it the champion title. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate leverages some of the best possible hardware in a unique way, optimizing everything from low-level integration to high-level software for the best possible gaming experience. The flexibility and number of tuning options on offer are still unmatched, and so is the versatility of the in-depth control mapping and macro system.

Asus' reign as the best gaming phone maker isn't about to end anytime soon. Like a lot of phones in 2023, the improvements are quite incremental on the 6 Pro, but there's so much performance here for those who really care about getting the most from their intensive games. When you add that to a fantastic display, the best stereo speakers on any phone, a big battery and one decent camera, and you have a great all-round media consumption device. There are compromises with this phone. Beyond the usual expensive price point, there's the fact that it's a huge, heavy phone and the supporting ultrawide and macro cameras aren't great even if the primary snapper is actually decent this year. Still, as long as having a small, compact phone or having the best cameras isn't at the top of your list, it does so much really well. It's probably our favourite phone for watching movies and TV shows on and will remain that way until another manufacturer manages to up their loudspeaker game. It's a brilliant all-round phone, even if it's not for everyone.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate comes out as a winner in many categories. Its screen offers a crushing combo of size, resolution, speed, and responsiveness. The phone's Snapdragon processor, particularly with X-Mode engaged, should give gamers the edge they need to tackle torrents of foes. Its battery lasts long enough for you to mow down every last zombie, trooper, or NPC. And the advanced audio should tickle the ears of even the pickiest listeners. For a premium price, however, you miss out on some premium comforts like wireless charging, high-end cameras, and a more rugged build. If those features don't matter to you as much as the absolute best gaming performance, we can easily recommend the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate as a clutch weapon for your arsenal. But if you're looking for better overall balance in addition to gaming chops, you'll want to stick with our Editors' Choice winner, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

It has top of the range specs, a superb display, a battery big enough to cope with the games it churns through, and the most customisable software settings I’ve ever seen in a phone. You also pay big for all these features, with a price akin to the most expensive smartphones from Apple and Samsung. But this phone comes with 512GB storage and a charger and cooling fan accessory in the box, so if you are a hardcore mobile gamer at least Asus won’t skimp on the extras. It’s a big, heavy phone though and the design is garish, and you have to ask yourself if you really do need all its power. Asus’s four years of security updates is good enough for me to happily recommend this phone, but there are cheaper options if you don’t need something quite so overkill.

If you think of a smartphone as little more than a handheld gaming device that also takes phone calls, you'll find the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (or the regular ROG Phone 7) pretty appealing. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset delivers best-in-class performance, the screen is bright and colorful and I can't get over that 18-hour battery life. The flaws begin to appear when you consider the ROG Phone 7 more as a smartphone instead of a gaming device. The cameras are adequate at best, software support is minimal and features you'd expect from a high-end flagship phone like extended software support or IP68 water resistance simply aren't there. For the price Asus has set, you might be better off turning to phones like the OnePlus 11 or Galaxy S23 Plus, which run on the same processor as the ROG Phone 7, deliver impressive battery life in their own right, and also have better cameras. Certainly, there are more complete phones out there than the ROG Phone 7, though as far as gaming-only features are concerned, this Asus phone stands out.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is a superb gaming phone. It’s one of the most powerful Android handsets you can buy, has room-filling bassy speakers and a suite of features to improve portable gaming, including the AirTriggers which is a massive improvement on the touchscreen controls. You will need to compromise on the camera quality here though, with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max offering a great deal more versatility for the steep price. The biggest issue here, however, is that the extra features (namely the animation screen panel and enhanced cooling) provided by the Ultimate edition arguably don’t justify the inflated cost. With the exact same specs found on both of the latest ROG models, I’d recommend sticking with the more affordable Asus ROG Phone 7 instead if you’re not fussed about frivolous features.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is tailored for mobile phone gamers that want to tweak Android games while playing them at their highest graphics settings. New additions like the phone's new Snapdragon chip, controller options and upgraded cooling system further refine that experience, while providing a sharp refresh rate with fast speeds that benefit nongaming tasks like apps and reading. Most people will likely be happier with a phone like a Galaxy S23 that has better cameras and a slimmer body. Also, many Android games run just fine on regular phones. For a gamer that puts specs above all and wants lots and lots of customizable options, this ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is packed with them. We haven't yet reviewed the competing RedMagic 8 Pro series which has the same chip with a lower $649 starting price. However, the software experience on the Asus is very good, achieving a nice balance between being a gaming device and a mobile phone.

To be fair, the photo quality of the ROG Phone line has improved over the years. It’s not a horrible camera—it just doesn’t come close enough to the other flagship smartphones in its price range and sticks out as a glaring weakness amidst a whole heap of awesomeness. And of course, it really depends on how much you personally care about camera performance in your phone, but it bums me out and I really hope Asus can continue to improve on it. Regardless of the weak camera performance, the rest of this phone is a beast. The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate stands out from the crowd with cutting edge features. That’s the key, really. Fully loaded, enthusiast-class gaming phones like this help push the entire mobile ecosystem forward, and I’m thrilled that manufacturers like Asus continue to innovate in the space. Mainstream phones might not have adopted features like vapor chambers and high refresh rate screens as quickly if gaming phones didn’t blaze the trail first. Now if only we could get at least one headphone jack back on other phones…

It might not mix up the formula, but the latest ROG phone is still deserving of that Ultimate moniker. It has a great display, stellar sound and superb battery life when you aren’t gaming – and impeccable performance, streamlined software and useful accessories when you are. There’s little else out there that’s as purpose-built for playtime. Frame rates aren’t substantially ahead of the current crop of Snapdragon-powered flagships, though, and while the main camera takes a decent enough daylight photo, the secondary lenses just aren’t up to the same standard as the ones seen on similarly-priced rivals. Those phones aren’t as in-yer-face as the Asus on the design front, either. If you’ve got a serious Genshin Impact addiction, though? The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will be all the phone you’ll need.

Would we recommend the ROG Phone 7? Yes... for some people. Those being gamers and phone geeks — it's pretty obvious. The phone's design and branding doesn't hide who it's for. But we also appreciate that improvements in the camera and software updates over the past year have made these phones more suitable for "generic" use. After all, if you are spending good money on a smartphone — it would be kind of nice if it can be mentioned in the same breath as Samsung and Pixel. Even though we spent our time with the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, we would say the non-Ultimate is the way to go. The regular version is just as overkill. It has the same specs, cameras, speakers and screen. So, while we enjoyed the Ultimate, we would recommend one buy the regular ROG 7 and pick up the AeroActive Cooler 7 for it separately — it will still end up a cheaper package than the Ultimate. The ROG Phone 7 is launching in Europe right now, starting from €999 for the regular model and €1399 for the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (bundled with AeroActive Cooler 7, a €110 value).

The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate from ASUS brings a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 6.8-inch 165Hz OLED display, two touch sensitive shoulder triggers, two awesome symmetrical speakers, and a detachable fan that doubles as a sub-woofer. The whole package is pricey at 1300 euro, but if you're a serious mobile gamer, you won't find a more capable smartphone than this in 2023.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 provided reliably good image quality when shooting with the main camera module, thanks to accurate target exposure, especially on portrait scenes, as well as faithful and fairly pleasant colors. But the camera’s performance struggled to keep up with other Ultra-premium category devices. The autofocus performed swiftly and accurately, but color shifts were often visible in the sky in high-contrast scenes, and on occasion our testers also observed color casts in low-light shots. Despite a fairly high level of captured detail, night performance was overall fairly poor, due to high noise levels. The ROG Phone 7 also lacks a dedicated tele camera, which limits taking zoomed-in shots. In video mode, recorded clips showed generally good exposure and a wide dynamic range. However, colors could sometimes be inaccurate. While the autofocus reacted quickly, our testers observed some AF failures.

The Asus ROG Phone 7’s display performance was overall very good, mainly thanks to its touch capabilities, which are important for a device marketed for gaming. In that regard, the ROG Phone 7 screen’s responsiveness to the touch was always accurate. In addition, the smartphone handled scrolling the Web or gaming smoothly and comfortably. However, the screen did have a tendency to show visible aliasing and stutter while playing video games, which diminished the overall gaming experience. In another use case — watching videos — the device was unable to smoothly play the videos at 60 frames per second without mismatching frames. Otherwise, when the device was used in indoor lighting conditions, the screen’s brightness was always well-managed and did not require any manual adjustments for playing video games, scrolling or just viewing photos.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 smartphone provides a flagship gaming experience without any compromises. To back up the performance, ASUS has added the highest-grade cooling possible in a smartphone along with a huge battery that will keep your gaming session for hours. The display is also fabulous and so is its camera. No matter which game you are trying to play on your smartphone, you can rely easily on knowing it will run smoothly. Even day-to-day applications will run great, thanks to the lightweight stock interface. The only thing it lacks is wireless charging however, you can’t charge wirelessly when playing games anyway, so we understand why ASUS chose not to add it to the smartphone. Overall, it is a fantastic smartphone but if you want an alternative to ROG Phone 7 that is also equally powerful or more, then you should look for the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro smartphone which comes in a similar price range and specifications.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 performed well in our battery test protocol and ranked in the top part of our database. Although the ROG Phone 7 behaved very much like the Asus ROG Phone 6, its scores were below its predecessor, especially in autonomy and efficiency because of higher discharge currents. With a huge 6000mAh battery, the autonomy of the Asus ROG Phone 7 was excellent, providing three full days when used moderately. But when testing individual usages, the device struggled when listening to music. Other usages showed very good performances, especially when calling, streaming video and using the camera on-the-go, but they did not reach the autonomy of the Asus ROG Phone 6. The autonomy when gaming was also quite good, even though it, too, was slightly less than its predecessor. The ROG Phone 7’s charging experience was good, taking only 1 hour to replenish the large battery.

In the DXOMARK Audio tests, the gaming-oriented Asus ROG Phone 7 was an all-around great performer with an AeroActive Cooler feature that could give an additional boost to the sound experience when gaming. The Asus did very well both as a Playback device and when recording sound but was slightly held back by the lack of an audio zoom feature. Our experts also noticed some bass distortion with the built-in speakers. In Playback the ROG Phone 7 achieved the best results when listening to music but also did very well when watching movies or gaming. As a recording device it was best when filming video selfies but also achieved excellent results with the main camera and memo apps, making it an easy recommendation to any sound-focused smartphone user.

It’s IP54 splash and water resistant, has in-screen fingerprint and face recognition to unlock and comes in both black and white, with an epic see-through computer style design on the back to give it a cool gaming look. A great phone, ideal for gaming, but at a high price.

The ROG Phone 7 hasn't changed all that much compared to its predecessor, and that's neither a new nor a bad trend with Asus devices. There are a few specs touch-ups here and there, like the boosted display performance, but at its core, the ROG Phone 7 remains a very familiar device. It's a device still laser-focused on delivering the best possible mobile gaming experience. And Asus remains barely challenged for yet another year, with most manufacturers focusing on creating more mainstream products. Neither of these criticisms is that new or a true "showstopper," and fans of the ROG Phone line will know what they are getting into with the latest ROG Phone 7. The steep starting price of around €999 isn't new either. Though, given everything that the handset brings to the table, we might argue that it is downright competitive in the current market. We'd even say it's the more sensible purchase than its more expensive sibling - the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Coming with the same pedigree but offering a more affordable price, the ROG Phone 7 is the gaming champion to beat and an incredibly well-crafted device that gets two thumbs up from us.

The ASUS ROG Phone 7 is a specialist operator for serious mobile gamers searching for that extra competitive edge. Super stable performance, robust game customization options, and a host of rock-solid accessories elevate the experience far above your “regular” smartphone and help make a case for the ROG series’ continuation. It’s undoubtedly an option we’re happy to recommend to competitive mobile gamers in particular. One of the few remaining gaming phone alternatives packing equivalent processing hardware is the REDMAGIC 8 Pro ($849 at Amazon). It also packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage, and a huge 6,000mAh battery. It boasts competitive features like a 960Hz touch sample rate, LPDDR5X memory, a built-in cooling fan, capacitive shoulder triggers, and robust audio features, all at a far lower price. ASUS has the edge in software and extra features, though. The ASUS ROG Phone 7 is a specialist operator for the serious mobile gamer. Starting at €999, there’s no getting around the fact that the ASUS ROG Phone 7 is expensive, though. You can grab a Galaxy S23 Plus ($849.99 at Amazon) for a similar price, or a Galaxy S23 Ultra ($1169.99 at Amazon) instead of the even pricier ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Either provides a more well-rounded flagship experience, particularly in the camera and features department, which includes an IP68 rating and wireless charging. These phones also pack solid processing hardware and offer decent gaming performance alongside a Game Launcher suite, and big batteries for all but the heaviest gamers. Of course, the ASUS ROG Phone 7 is built specifically for gamers who will make the most of the phone’s robust cooling, gamer-centric software, and even new bleeding edges ideas like AI-assistance X Sense. If you’re more of a casual player, you can save significant cash and pick up a better general-purpose phone for far less.

As I mentioned in the intro, the market for a gaming phone is niche. Most phones don't have this much horsepower, but there are only a handful of titles that will really demand it. If you're a casual gamer, there are probably better options out there for you. But if you've made it this far, you're probably not a casual gamer. You're probably a hardcore gamer who wants a phone that can offer a decent level of gameplay, for those times when you're away from your discerningly crafted setup. If that sounds like you, the ROG Phone 7 is probably the best option on the market right now. You can expect a truly stellar experience playing games, with a phone that is more than capable of handling the usual day-to-day tasks as well.
