It used to be you had to sacrifice weight and portability for power, but that’s no longer the case with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024). This laptop is powerful enough for modern AAA gaming above 60FPS but weighs as much as a MacBook Pro. I love the screen, keyboard, and performance, and its asking price, while steep, is justified considering what you’re getting.

The Zephyrus G14 starts at $2,199, and the G16 starts at $2,299, though notably, these starting prices are for less powerful variants of the laptops than what I tested that sport 16GB of RAM and 4060 Laptop GPUs, among other differences. Depending on how intense you want to spec out the Zephyrus laptops, they can get as high as $4,499, though I’m not sure I’d recommend spending that much on a laptop. The main argument I see for both the G14 and G16 is that the laptops, pricey as they are, are effectively a two-for-one deal. You get a powerful laptop that’s capable for work and gaming. It’s a tempting offer, especially if you can’t splurge on both a solid portable laptop and a tricked-out gaming desktop.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a perfect laptop for folks who want a gaming machine that’s powerful and elegant. It’s comparable to the HP Omen Transcend 14 in that regard, though Asus’ notebook delivers better performance and has more ports. And while $1,999 for the model I reviewed isn’t cheap, it’s a great value for what it offers. Battery life is the main thing preventing the Zephyrus G14 from being truly excellent. Yes, people tend to keep gaming laptops plugged in, but if you want to use this machine for work when you’re outdoors, battery life will be a concern. That aside, I wholeheartedly recommend the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 to anyone looking for a well-priced gaming rig that delivers the goods in terms of performance, elegance and overall useability.

Though we did have a few issues with the machine's display occasionally glitching while coming out of hibernation mode, ASUS seems to have cleaned that mostly up with a recent BIOS update, and it's likely a non-issue moving forward. The other shortcoming of the ROG Zephyrus G14 is battery life. Since this laptop can double as a portable productivity and content creation workhorse, some users might appreciate a bit more longevity when not gaming. Though again, this isn't necessarily a showstopper issue with the machine's ability to power its 3K OLED display and Ryzen 8000 platform for almost 5 hours in an always-on light duty workload scenario. Beyond these caveats, we really enjoyed our time with this gaming cross-breed of laptop.

Asus isn’t first with an all-metal gaming ultraportable – Razer did that a few years back – but the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is the first I could see myself ditching my current computer for. It looks the business, is wonderfully compact, and has one of the best screens I’ve seen on a gaming laptop. It isn’t cheap – but then neither is an M3 Pro-powered MacBook Pro 14in, and despite Apple’s efforts it’s simply nowhere near as good at games. Here you’re getting a thin and light laptop you can take just about anywhere, with enough gaming grunt to play just about any new release (with a few resolution and detail tweaks), and a battery that should last most of the day when it’s time to get work done. The OLED is really the icing on the cake. Other compact gaming laptops are going to have to work hard to best this.

The 16-inch laptop space is a heavily congested fight between some big-name machines, but the 14-inch pool is comparatively quiet. In my mind, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is the best 14-inch gaming laptop for most people. While the slim design is obviously eye-catching, this laptop is more than just a pretty face. The display is superb and the gaming performance is solid. Yes, the battery life is lacklustre, but provided you're not on top of a mountain, you should have no problems carrying both the charger and laptop around to enjoy your favourite games anywhere.

This 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403 generation is more compact, lighter and more refined than the previous models. The overall aesthetics and feel have improved, and the typing experience, audio and display quality are second to none within the 14-inch space of Windows laptops. On top of those, this machine is quite a performer within its class of mid-tier specs, and you don't even have to keep it on Turbo for a solid work and gaming experience, especially if you're willing to mingle with the power settings in Manual mode. Too bad Asus pretty much forces us into buying the 4070 models, with the RAM being soldered and only offering 16 GB on the other versions.

Even though we already loved its predecessors, the 2024 ROG Zephyrus G14 has managed to take another big leap. It’s got an exquisitely crafted chassis along with a vibrant new display and boomier speakers – all while shedding nearly half a pound in weight. On the inside, you still get up to an RTX 4070 GPU. Sure, it’s a touch slower than a similarly equipped Blade 14, but considering our review unit costs $2,000 compared to $2,700 for the closest equivalently specced Razer, I’m happy to trade a tiny bit of performance to get a much more affordable machine. And that’s before you factor in a starting price of just $1,450 for one with an RTX 4060. My biggest gripe is that ASUS’ Amoury Crate app still feels clunky, thanks to settings that are hard to find or toggles that don’t work like you’d expect.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 (14.5-Inch) does well to fend off the new-look G14 at a lower price on a performance basis, it must be said. But the new generation will take over, regardless. The new Ryzen processor is quicker, and we’ll see more of it as the year rolls on. And Asus has deployed it in an excellent package here. We find little to criticize with this system. Even if you find the price of our review unit to be more than you want to pay, the base model is looks very palatable and still well-equipped. The laptop's battery lasts long, its ports are plentiful, and its fast OLED screen is gorgeous (and the first with G-Sync). Asus' metal chassis and subtle lid lighting are an elegant wrapper, but this is no case of mere style over substance. On a pure price-to-performance basis, the Legion is a top value, but the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is our new favorite compact gaming laptop and an Editors' Choice award winner.

And with that, the upgradeable RAM and the screen folding back, those are really the only things I would actually miss from the old Zephyrus G14 model. But the advantages are worth so much more and this new G14 generation is superior enough that I’m willing to carry this around on a daily basis. Well, as long as I can avoid that QC issue in the next one I’m getting. So that’s my brief report on the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403 update. Looking forward to Andrei’s full review in the coming weeks. Until then, feel free to reach out with any questions if you have them.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) is the best laptop I’ve ever tested. It’s a hyperbolic statement that I’ve had to mull over – especially as performance has had to be somewhat reined in to create such a balanced machine in other areas – but I’m comfortable with making it, as that balance is truly astounding. This edition of the G14 is a joy to use, no matter what you task it with. The OLED display is astounding, across gaming, creative work and taking in videos, while the keyboard is invitingly immersive. Astoundingly, Asus has managed to massively upgrade the speakers in this compact laptop too, putting it up there with the very best around. Moreover, the port selection hasn’t been compromised and there’s a well-sized trackpad.

ASUS revisited the drawing board, redesigning the latest iteration of the ROG Zephyrus G14. But the question arises...does it deliver on performance? In this video, we dive deeper into the rationale behind key alterations while comparing it with the 2023 G14 to determine if it's worth the upgrade.

The 2024 Zephyrus G14 has already turned heads and stirred up its fair share of controversy, but it’s still a laptop that excites me. The MacBook-like form factor is unmatched for a gaming notebook, and the OLED display delivers some of the best color quality I’ve ever seen. Even in a sea of 14-inch gaming laptops, I can confidently say that I’ve never used a laptop quite like the 2024 Zephyrus G14. It’s bold in its design, and surprisingly competent in its execution. For the way I use a gaming laptop, there’s nothing better. It’s important to recognize the many other ways you can use a gaming laptop, though. Peak performance isn’t a priority for the Zephyrus G14, as it relies on a “good enough” mentality to get by. And upgradability is out the door now in an attempt to achieve a design that very few other laptops can match. More than anything, though, the 2024 Zephyrus G14 loses out compared to last year’s model. In an off year for laptop hardware, you can purchase a 2023 model with the same specs for about $400 less.

Asus brings OLED displays to its ROG Zephyrus line in 2024 and does a fab job for a first timer. The new flashy slash programmable-LED on the cover of the well-designed laptop, plus solid performance for its 14-inch size, makes the G14 an excellent choice for a small model that's adept for both gaming and creating. Despite being a member of Asus' gaming-focused ROG family of laptops, the G14 has a more creative bent; it's technically considered an Nvidia Studio model and ships with Nvidia's Studio driver rather than the more common Game Ready version. (You can switch to the latter if you want the more frequent and game-optimized updates.) It comes in two models: the $2,000 version I tested, equipped with a AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS, GeForce RTX 4070, 32GB RAM and 1TB storage; and a $1,600 version with 16GB RAM and an RTX 4060.

CES 2024 is coming to a close, but we couldn’t ignore some of the most exciting laptops we saw at the event. ASUS has something for you whether you’re a multi-tasking beast or a hardcore gamer.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has a storied history with the Laptop Mag staff, throwing us for a loop with its impressive performance and endurance. It definitely fell off last year, but it looks like the 2024 iteration of the G14 is looking to launch a serious comeback. It’s slimmer than the previous model and has a totally new design. It’s one of the first ROG-branded laptops to feature an OLED panel. But while the laptop is an absolutely aesthetic stunner, it’s shooting to be the king of the mid-tier laptops with its AMD Ryzen 9 processor and Nvidia RTX 4000-series graphics. And while I’m curious to see how the laptop will handle AI performance, I’m chomping at the bit to see how the notebook will fare on our benchmarks, especially if we get a configuration with an RTX 4070 GPU.

There may be no graphics upgrade this year, but the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) is even more portable than its lightweight predecessor while seeing exciting upgrades such as an OLED screen and new AMD Ryzen processors. It’s a shame that the AniMe Matrix feature has been scrapped, but this is otherwise a very promising gaming laptop.

Due to the lack of new GPUs from NVIDIA at CES 2024, ASUS could have refreshed the processors in its flagship gaming laptop line and simply called it a day. But much to my delight, ASUS still went and completely redesigned the ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 and it feels like the company may have struck the perfect balance between performance and a more sophisticated take on the gamer aesthetic.

As CES 2024 ramps up, Asus kicked things off with a new line of ROG Zephyrus gaming laptops that, much to my surprise, are thin and light enough to allow for easy portability. I actually wrote this on the bigger of the two laptops, the Zephyrus G16, which Asus sent me ahead of the announcement to test out. Unfortunately, I can’t dig into performance and benchmarks yet (stay tuned for a full review in the coming weeks!), I can say it has me rethinking my staunch position on gaming laptops. From my first impressions after using the Zephyrus G16 for a little over a week, Asus managed to offer a reasonably thin-and-light laptop while still boasting significant performance and gaming capabilities. Plus, the simple design looks vague MacBook-ish, meaning it shouldn’t stand out like the typically garish designs we see on gaming laptops. The Zephyrus sports a CNC-machined aluminum chassis, which helps with the weight. It’s also quite sturdy, with virtually no flex.
