Reviews for the Asus Vivobook S 15 OLED Snapdragon

ASUS VivoBook S 15 on Snapdragon

The Asus Vivobook S 15 is a sleek and lightweight laptop with a gorgeous OLED display and solid battery life -- as long as you're mindful about your power usage. I'd recommend it to forward-thinking digital nomads who want a performant, AI-ready laptop with the blazing-fast Snapdragon X Elite processor. It's a solid investment for people who regularly swap between creative work, productivity software, and media. All things considered, the sale price of $999 is very competitive for this laptop, particularly for the display alone.

In a sea of these Snapdragon X Elite-powered ultrabooks, it was going to be hard for the Asus Vivobook S 15 OLED (2024) to stand out fully. Even if it doesn’t though, it still provides an excellent Windows experience with a fantastic OLED display, beefy performance from its SoC and an especially comfortable keyboard. The selection of inputs that the Vivobook S 15 OLED (2024) stands out from the crowd, offering a sensible selection for power users and generalists, alike. In addition, its battery life is also among the best-in-class, allowing you to stay away from the mains for a while before it needs plugging in.

If you're looking for top-end everyday performance with no hiccups the ASUS Vivobook S15 CoPilot+ PC is a great choice. That said, I believe ASUS could have priced the laptop more aggressively—perhaps ₹5,000-10,000 lower—and that would have made it an even better deal. However, it's important to remember that this is an ARM-powered laptop, and there will be occasional compatibility issues, whether it's with a creative app or a game. If you can live with that, there's no better time to enter the Windows ARM/AI PC space. When it comes to AI, the laptop features a dedicated CoPilot key and includes useful tricks like generating live captions in 44 languages, which works well in most scenarios.

Most Copilot+ laptops have been 14 inches or smaller, leaving out those looking for a larger display. There’s a compromise in the 16:9 aspect ratio, so anyone who wants the best productivity experience will be disappointed. It’s great for media consumption, though. Performance is surprisingly good given the slower Snapdragon X Plus chipset, while battery life is good but not nearly the best. And the price is reasonably attractive, but again, not a standout. But for now, it’s the most attractive Qualcomm machine that’s larger than 14 inches.

The ASUS Vivobook S15 and the Copilot+ PC platform present a promising vision for the future. While excelling in battery life, thermal efficiency, and AI processing capabilities, optimisation for some key apps and software is still needed. Priced at Rs 1,24,990, the ASUS Vivobook S15 is a promising Windows laptop for users who rely on applications with native versions on the Windows on ARM platform.

If you’re a student who wants a good laptop under 1.25 lakh rupees, you’re exactly the person who Asus wants to purchase this laptop. But if you are a student or a working professional with this budget, you would want something better at gaming. If not, then something with a 360-degree form factor and a touchscreen. If you’re willing to give up these things, then the Asus Vivobook S15 S5507 gives you a solid laptop. It is military-grade tough, gets a full-day battery life, an amazing screen, a great keyboard and a large and responsive trackpad. All of this adds up to make this a value-for-money laptop that should last you a long time.

While the Copilot features are the marketing angle with these new laptops, the real draw card here will be the battery life and performance. The ASUS Vivobook S 15 Copilot+ PC is a great machine, even if like us, the AI features aren’t even a secondary thought during your day to day activities. The Snapdragon silicon performs better than we expected it to and for most, find apps that crash or outright don’t run will be a hard ask. The one downside of this laptop is the price. At R29 999, one could get a machine with better specs albeit with a less impressive battery life. Furthermore, for most businesses R29 999 per seat is a tough justification, even if performance is great.

Answering the question posed at the beginning of this article, I can state that the ARM architecture will not change the way we use Windows laptops yet. This requires more time and more changes in the operating system itself, which should unleash the full capabilities of the platform. Nevertheless, the ASUS Vivobook S 15 clearly shows that from being exotic and often problematic, ARM-based systems have turned into a perfectly workable solution that provides a good level of performance and battery life, often without sacrificing the programs you need. Add to this a nice design, a great display, a fast facial recognition system, a comfortable keyboard and touchpad, and the Vivobook S 15 is definitely one of the laptops that can be recommended for productive office work right now.

The Snapdragon X Elite powered ASUS VIvobook S 15 S5507 offers an excellent OLED display along with superb performance for general computing and great battery life though app compatibility is a mixed bag for now and the 16:9 display makes intensive paperwork tasks a bit of a chore.

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED 2024 spells a new revolution in the evolving tapestry of Windows laptops. Embracing ARM-based Snapdragon architecture, ASUS has been able to bring something to the table that blows against tradition and combines performance, portability, and endurance. Besides the premium design, beautiful OLED display, and long battery life, it is a fine solution for people who want versatility and unfettered computing. Powered by the Snapdragon X Elite processor, this laptop is sure to provide robust performance for productivity, media, and lighter creative tasks that will appeal to today’s mobile professional. However, this doesn’t mean that the Vivobook S 15 OLED 2024 comes without its limitations.

Personally, I do think that these Snapdragon X Elite laptops and Windows on Arm in general to be good if what you’re doing is supported properly by the operating system. The battery life and near-zero fan noise are just fantastic. However, if you’re planning to get this for gaming – then I’d say now is not the time. Will it get better over time? I surely hope they do. Qualcomm needs to keep up with the momentum and Microsoft needs to further improve on the Prism translation layer. App developers will also need to have an Arm version of their software to take full advantage of the Arm architecture as well.

The Asus VivoBook S15 is an excellent productivity laptop, offering solid build quality, a premium design, and exceptional battery life. While it may not be ideal for gaming, it excels in everyday tasks and productivity, making it a great choice for users looking for a reliable general performance and efficient laptop. The display is quite attractive and vibrant, although a touchscreen would have been better considering the price tag of Rs 1,24,990.

So that was all for my review of the new Asus Vivobook S15 (S5507) with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor. It’s an entirely different breed of thin and light Windows laptops… a true competitor to Apple’s marvelous MacBook Air… that you and I have been waiting for all these years. And looking purely through the battery life and power efficiency lens, I must say this thing delivers on its promise almost flawlessly. I don’t think I mentioned this before but these Snapdragon machines don’t lose much of their performance when running in battery power either. Which has been one of my biggest icks with basically every Intel or AMD-powered laptop so far, to be honest. So… have Qualcomm and Microsoft finally, finally managed to offer a Windows experience that’s on par with Apple’s magnificent MacBook Air?

Windows on ARM is not new. Efforts began in 2012 with Windows RT, a version of Windows 8 for ARM. Over the years, significant developments were made, but none were of this scale where giants like Qualcomm, Microsoft, and other OEMs such as HP, Dell, ASUS, and more came together to create a comprehensive and competitive ARM-based Windows ecosystem. This collaboration aims to deliver high performance, energy efficiency, and seamless compatibility, striving to challenge the dominance of traditional x86 architecture and push the boundaries of what ARM processors can achieve in the Windows operating environment. To sum it up, the Asus Vivobook S15 Copilot+ laptop can be considered an excellent everyday PC. Despite being powered by a fairly new platform, the OS is very stable and the chip is capable enough to handle most tasks with ease. On top of that, one can also play AAA games, however, there are compatibility issues with some titles. If you are ready to embrace the wave of new-age AI PCs, this is probably the laptop worth considering.

While the Asus Vivobook S15 S5507 isn’t perfect, it hits the key notes that make a tremendous 15-inch laptop: performance, battery life, and display—all of which are stellar. However, my biggest pet peeve is the touchpad. It’s the window in which you access the laptop; my finger should not feel like it’s sprinting to get control of the cursor. Do you know which laptop doesn’t have this problem? That’s right, the MacBook Air 15. MacBooks use glass touchpads, whereas this particular laptop uses plastic. Going with the MacBook also nets you longer battery life. However, it’s also pricier ($1,699). For the price, the Asus Vivobook S15 S5507 does many things right.

The Asus Vivobook S 15 is a competent entry into the Copilot Plus PC arena, but one that struggles to stand out from the alternatives. It delivers good performance, long battery life, and a nice mix of wired and wireless connectivity—but the same is generally true of other Copilot Plus PCs. I’m also not a fan of Asus’ ho-hum design, which isn’t fitting for what should be a flagship laptop. The Vivobook S 15 is a good pick if you want a thin and light 15-inch machine, though, and defeats alternatives like the Acer Swift Edge 16 and LG Gram 16.

You might have expected Asus's first Copilot+ PC to emerge from its flagship thin-and-light Zenbook range. Instead, we have the Vivobook S15: a device from the brand's more affordable line, but still extremely slim, low in weight, and blessed with a stunning OLED screen. It turns out to be a worthy showcase of Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X hardware and Microsoft's new software, with virtues that may endear it not just to small business users, but even IT buyers from larger enterprises.

Focusing back on the ASUS Vivobook S15 (S5507), my first impression is based mostly from the fact that this is running Windows for Arm. Barring performance hits, it is a very functional piece of hardware at its current state but Qualcomm isn’t at fault here for not being able to bring out what the hardware can offer. As detailed earlier in this article, Microsoft’s focuses on technology first and decides later how to market that technology rather than focusing on actual user needs. This hurts its partner and hurts its users who can benefit greatly from a company that sees value in user experience. That said, as it is, the ASUS Vivobook S15 S5507 is a fully-functional daily driver if you focus mostly on cloud applications to light content creation.

The VivoBook S 15 2024 is the most premium model under the VivoBook line, and it. shows a lot of promise as a Copilot+ laptop that uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series chips, ushering in a new era of Windows laptops. We still need to do further tests on the VivoBook S 15 2024–particularly with the performance of its Snapdragon X Elite processor and how good are all of its AI features–before we can give a proper verdict to one of the first Copilot+ laptops that’s arriving in the Philippines.
