I say almost though, because it’s just a little bit too expensive in my view to compel someone enough to switch from a MacBook Air to this laptop instead. Originally priced at RM5,999 when it debuted in Malaysia a couple of months ago, the Zenbook 14 OLED with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage that we have here now goes for RM6,299 thanks to inflation. We understand that the Intel Core Ultra 5 125H version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, originally priced at RM4,499, has also received a price hike, but we’re still waiting to know its revised price. It should be pointed out that the MacBook Air, despite starting at RM4,799 for the M2 and RM5,199 for the M3 version, comes with only 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage stock in comparison. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a productivity focused thin-and-light Windows laptop, the Zenbook 14 OLED is certainly up there in my opinion.

As an all-rounder for work, life and even a bit of light gaming, there's little wrong with the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED. That sounds like damning it with faint praise, but it does have a standout quality – the display is simply divine and among the best you'll find anywhere. So if you want something sleek, portable and not fruit-flavoured then the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED is a terrific choice. It helps that it's powered by the newest-generation Intel processors – and while there's not much to show off in terms of AI features yet, you can bet the future will be full of them.

ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3405) is a long-awaited evolutionary update of the popular ultraportable laptop that has a number of undeniable advantages. First of all, it has a gorgeous OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, long battery life, and a stylish metal body. The comfortable keyboard and touchpad are also very pleasing. The new Intel Core Ultra processor has demonstrated a significant performance increase over the previous generation. But all of its capabilities will be fully appreciated when neural networks and machine learning are used more widely in software. The Zenbook line has never been known for its low price, and the new Zenbook 14 OLED is no different. Among the wishes, we can mention that a card reader, which was in many models of the line, would be appropriate.

The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is one of the best laptops I’ve used in the past while. Great for business use or everyday computing tasks, it comes with some very functional additional features. The OLED display is great, as are the Harman Kardon Dolby Atmos speakers, allowing you to use the laptop for entertainment enjoyment as well. Not to mention the fantastic battery life. It is for these reasons, and more, that the Zenbook 14 OLED is one of our first Top Picks of 2024 here at Techaeris.

Last month we gave a Editors' Choice award for midrange ultraportables to Asus' Zenbook 14X OLED Q420. The Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405 narrowly misses that honor because it's less of an impulse buy—but if you stop to think, its $300 higher price buys you Intel's newer AI-enhanced CPU, double the memory and storage, and a system that's half a pound lighter. The 14-inch ultraportable arena is packed with first-class contenders from the HP Pavilion Plus 14 to the legendary Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, but you shouldn't overlook the Zenbooks.

Okay, let’s wrap things up now. And all things considered, the 2024 iteration of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED gets a lot of things right. To the point where you could argue that this is the best thin-and-light laptop out there. Mostly helped by all the performance and efficiency gains of Intel’s fresh new Meteor Lake processor. And if you fall into that subset of users that’s looking for a premium and portable Windows laptop with a great battery life, a nice display, and a reasonably powerful integrated GPU, the Zenbook 14 OLED is among the few laptops that checks all your boxes. But as I discussed throughout this review of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (2024), Meteor Lake isn’t exactly “a perfectly polished product” as you might’ve originally thought. The performance and battery life inconsistency thing that I mentioned earlier is a big deal that Intel needs to work on fixing it as soon as possible.

I showed this laptop to a friend who uses a MacBook Pro, and he too gave it a serious thought. While Windows is a major factor when considering something other than a MacBook, it is time we admit that Windows machines are getting pretty good too. Spec for spec, feature for feature, ASUS is giving you a touchscreen laptop with a 3k OLED display, really good speakers, a solid battery life, and a durable chassis. But then as I said in the headline, it is skipping the basics. It still ships with a clunky charger and no 360-degree mode. The bottom line is if you’re someone who frequently travels, or needs a light and powerful laptop, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is a good choice. It has great specs and a good display for work and multimedia consumption. You’ll just have to live with the occasional glare under direct sunlight, and maybe use a lighter third-party charger.

Back in 2023, I got an opportunity to witness how Intel makes its latest mobile chips that power the “AI PCs.” And since then, I have wanted to test the real-world performance of these chips to understand the AI capabilities enabled by them. When Asus sent me their latest Zenbook, which is one of the first laptops in the country powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor, I was more than intrigued to test it.

If you are looking for lots of power in a fairly lightweight package, but don't need top-level graphics grunt, look no further. It's got the greatest laptop screen on Earth right now, a brilliant, bright, sharp OLED touchscreen, and CPU performance on par with the new, and much more expensive, MacBook Pro. It also offers a big jump in graphics performance over previous integrated graphics laptops thanks to a well-implemented and functioning AI Boost NPU, although it doesn't quite reach into the realms of high-power animation, graphic design or video editing.

Since the debut of Apple Silicon MacBooks, the search for an equivalent Windows laptop that matches their blend of performance, battery life, portability, and efficiency has been unfulfilled until the introduction of Asus' Zenbook 14 OLED. With the Intel Meteor Lake architecture, this laptop not only approaches but also surpasses the expectations set by thin Windows productivity laptops in many aspects. Featuring a stunning 14-inch OLED display, a design that balances slimness with style, and a new processor that boasts significant performance and efficiency gains, the Zenbook 14 OLED is a compelling choice for those seeking a high-performance, ultraportable laptop. Despite minor drawbacks in its webcam and speaker system, it presents a comprehensive package that marks a significant milestone in productivity laptops.

The latest in the Asus Zenbook lineup, the all-new Asus Zenbook 14 OLED comes with a host of improvements across the board. However, the star of the show is the Intel Core Ultra 155H processor under the hood, combined with the new Intel ARC integrated graphics. Both of these are brand new from the Intel stable and they make the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED a performance powerhouse across the board. Unlike previous scenarios where you could either have long battery life or a high-performing processor in a thin and light laptop, with the Intel Core Ultra 155H, you get both. No compromise on performance or battery life, and the much-improved Intel ARC IGP graphics performance is the cherry on top. All of this makes the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED a power-packed machine that is ready for the on-device generative AI workloads and applications which is a rapidly evolving space.

The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3405) is a compact and light 14-icnher that is offered with all-new Intel Meteor Lake-H CPU options. The device feels very responsive for regular home or office usage. We tried to open some Web sites and play a few YouTube videos while Cinebench R2024 was running in the background and everything was working smoothly. In our case, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H can be found under the bonnet. This powerful chip is a true challenge for the cooling system, especially because the profile thickness of the laptop is sub-15 mm. The optional 1800p OLED panel (Samsung ATNA40CU06-0 (SDC419D)) offers full sRGB and DCI-P3 coverage alongside fast pixel response times paired with a 120Hz frequency. In addition, the infinite contrast ratio and the good max brightness can be appreciated by all users, especially the ones who like to watch movies.

Moving on to the laptop itself, we absolutely love the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405M and fully understand why Intel chose this laptop to showcase their new CPU. It is very thin and light yet packs a 14-inch OLED screen that almost seems larger than the chassis itself. The keyboard and touchpad are perfectly decent and you get a decent selection of ports and connectors along with WiFi 6E for fast wireless connectivity. The battery life is absolutely superb and means you can forget about looking for a mains socket during your working day. The final cherry on top of this particular cake is that the price is very reasonable, and that makes it a very sensible purchase. You can buy the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405M for £1,299.99 with Core Ultra 7 155H and 16GB RAM, or for £1399.99 with Core Ultra 9 185H and 32GB RAM.

The last time I was this excited about a laptop, it was when ASUS launched the first iteration of the ROG Zephyrus G14, which is also when AMD beat Intel at its own game with the Ryzen 9 4900HS. Fast forward to today, and it’s clear Intel is intent on coming back with a vengeance. Granted, I really wish at least one of the USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports were located on the left side, and that ASUS didn’t skimp on Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 but hey, Wi-Fi 6E is still plenty fast. From the powerhouse Meteor Lake CPU, to the laptop’s sleek lightweight chassis, right down to the Macbook-esque battery endurance, and with a starting SRP of RM4,499. The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is a laptop I can wholeheartedly recommend to those in the market for a long-lasting thin and light laptop with pros that truly outweigh the cons.

The 2024 Zenbook 14 OLED leverages Intel’s latest chipset to provide excellent productivity performance with a very solid build and an outstanding OLED display. It’s a very solid choice for a 14-inch laptop if you aren’t a creator who needs a discrete GPU. At $1,300, the Zenbook is a good value but not a great one. But here’s the catch — you may want to wait and see if Asus launches a cheaper configuration. This is probably not a laptop you’ll need 32GB of RAM for, and if Asus eventually rolls out a 16GB model, that’ll be the one to buy.

But now, let me add some more. Given that I have reviewed the top variant of the Zenbook 14 OLED, I can only give my recommendation about it. See the hardware difference between the base variant and the top variant is quite significant - for example, you may not get the same battery life in the base variant because that laptop uses an older Core i5 processor. But this one - the top variant of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED - is in my opinion one of the best, like totally totally best, work laptops you can buy. It is fast, it looks great, its battery life is phenomenal, its screen is one of the best I have seen, and its keyboard and trackpad are nifty. It is an all-rounder, and the fact that it weighs just 1.3 kgs makes it all the more appealing. In other words, if you are looking for a premium work or college laptop, or just a laptop that you can carry with you everywhere, the Zenbook 14 OLED perfectly fits the bill. Sure, it is expensive but then all good things in one way or another are.

It’s not the flashiest thin and light laptop around, but the Zenbook 14 OLED makes up for that with a sublime display, great connectivity, and competitive battery life. The Macbook Air M2 still takes the lead on longevity, but Intel’s new processor generation has helped close the gap on performance. A few niche use cases mean it still feels like early days for Meteor Lake’s AI acceleration, although I can see its potential in features like video call background blurring. Ultimately, with no major weaknesses anywhere else and a price not too dissimilar to the Apple alternative, Windows fans should feel right home in front of one of these.

The configuration that we have today, in the Core Ultra 5 125H + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD configuration, will cost RM4,499 apiece. There’s also the higher-end configuration with Core Ultra 7 155H + 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD, but that one in my opinion is slightly worse off in terms of value proposition. For the price of the Core Ultra 5 model, you’re getting a lot of laptop out of the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3405) – this laptop basically ticked every box any typical user would demand out of their machine, and for someone as picky as myself, I could hardly find any significant flaw in the entire package. If I didn’t have a particular need for a firepower-heavy laptop today, this would be my next laptop.

And that’s all we have to share with you about this laptop. Honestly speaking, the price of RM5,999 for this laptop is actually cheaper than last year’s Zenbook 14X OLED UX3404 yet offers so much more. We get higher performance, much better battery life, and also the NPU for more efficient AI processing. So what do you think about this ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405? This 2024 Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405 is a result of multiple updates and refinements over many generations of 14-inch Zenbooks. It's a premium portable laptop with no major flaws and a competitive price. It's also more powerful and more efficient that past Zenbooks, thanks to the Intel Meteor Lake hardware platform inside. So all in all, this is going to be a great option in its class in the next months and even years.

Overall, I’m coming away impressed with the Zenbook 14 OLED. It’s an all-around solid thin-and-light Windows laptop with a good design, awesome display and decent performance. Most of my issues stemmed from my review unit being a pre-production model. Beyond that, the only real letdown came from Intel’s new chip. While it’s not bad, it didn’t quite meet the hype. At best, the Core Ultra felt a little better than previous-generation CPUs. Still, it didn’t hold back the Zenbook 14. The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED is available now in Canada through the Asus e-store or Best Buy. It’s worth noting that the Core Ultra 7 variant is exclusive to the latter.

Overall, the ZenBook 14 OLED is a cracking laptop, then. Performance is solid, battery life is good, it has a great screen and ergonomics and build quality is top notch. With prices starting at £1,099, it’s strong competition for the likes of the 13.6in and 15in MacBook Air. As a showcase for Intel’s latest CPU, however, I’d have to say the jury’s out right now. Battery life is good for a Windows machine in this class but it still lags behind the likes of Apple’s M3 MacBook Pro and there isn’t much, if any, of a performance bump over the previous generation of Intel processors.

That 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra performance is good enough for creative users, as well as gaming - thanks to the Arc GPU. With its thin and light design, the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED can’t quite show off the full potential of Intel’s new Core 7 Ultra CPU, but it makes a great demonstration of how the new architecture is enabling manufacturers to reach higher levels of performance from an ultraportable device. It comfortably tops similar devices from the previous generation, like the Dell XPS 13 Plus (2023), and even larger ones, like the Asus Zenbook 15 OLED and LG Gram SuperSlim. In fact, with its fantastic OLED screen and comfortable ergonomics, the Asus could work as a creator’s laptop or a business machine, or just about anything else bar a full-blooded gaming PC. Here the new Arc iGPU is a huge improvement on Intel’s earlier integrated graphics tech – and serious competition for AMD’s fastest APUs in the likes of the Acer Swift Edge 16 – but still not in the same league as dedicated hardware. If you want more gaming capabilities, you’ll need to look for something bigger, heavier and faster, but this is a brilliant and versatile ultraportable for everyone else.
