I'm happy to see Asus put good effort into their mainstream lineup of thin-and-light ultrabooks and improve the ZenBook 14 OLED in this UX3402 generation. They included excellent 16:10 display options with this update, revamped the design and ergonomics, bumped the performance capabilities by implementing Intel Core P hardware, and bundled a larger battery inside. The efficiency is still somewhat lacking with these Intel platforms, though, and the weight of this series has increased a bit from the previous model.

The ASUS company continues to actively develop the line of Zenbook image laptops, and while we are waiting for new products presented at CES 2023, we’ll review the Zenbook 14 OLED model (UX3402ZA) presented at the end of last year. This compact 14-inch laptop promises the best you can get in the Zenbook line today: a quality screen, high performance, and, of course, battery life. Let’s see if this is really the case and what else the Zenbook 14 OLED has to offer.

Are there niggles? Sure, there are. Build quality doesn’t feel absolute tip-top, and the webcam can be an issue if you have to often take meetings remotely. The notebook also gets noisy and warm when taxed, but as I said, the same can be said for just about any Intel-powered notebook. The most obvious rival is Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7 Carbon. The Lenovo also has an OLED display and, because of its carbon fibre chassis, is considerably lighter. However, the ZenBook counters with its lower price tag and superior connectivity. The ZenBook has Thunderbolt ports, which is arguably the Yoga Slim 7 Carbon greatest weakness. All things considered, the ZenBook 14 OLED UX3402 is remarkable value and should be considered as one of the best bang for buck notebooks you can buy right now, especially with some of the current year-end offers pushing the price below S$1,700. If you are shopping for a notebook, this absolutely has to be on your shortlist.

For me personally though, I don’t know if it’s worth paying that much for it over something like the much more capable Acer Swift X, which has stellar performance. Starting at RM4,299, it packs an AMD Ryzen 5 5600U with 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and even has an RTX3050 Ti in it for good measure. However, it does lose out considerably when it comes to the display, and the Zenbook 14 OLED does seem to have the edge in battery life too. But for RM100 less than what the comparably specced Zenbook 14 OLED goes for, it’s hard to not consider it especially if you need the graphics power. I guess with all that being said, it really just comes down to what you—the person who’s actually using it—wants in a laptop. I mean, I get it now yes: OLED displays really are amazing, but I still don’t know if it’s worth paying the extra for it. But if you’re someone who finds that having a good display is just as important or even more important than the silicon under the hood, the Zenbook 14 OLED might just be the one to get.

On a full charge, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED lasted almost 10 hours when we played a 4K Ultra HD video on a loop in full screen mode. We also ran battery drain tests for typical office application usage including web browsing and office Word document, and the laptop managed 10 hour 52 min before it shut down automatically. As a thin and light laptop, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED has a stunning OLED display and proves to be a good performer. With a price tag of S$1,899, this makes it more attractive than its Zenbook 14x OLED sibling. The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is available now on the ASUS Store.

I’ll say, the Core i5 model is actually very good in terms of the value that it offers. This is ultimately still a thin and light laptop with supremely long battery life – it’s just that ASUS added a magnificent high-resolution OLED screen to it and we can still play some games at the side. The only thing missing on this laptop is a touchscreen. Other than that, I think it’s a fantastic laptop in its own league.

The ZenBook 14 OLED (UX3402) is a fitting laptop for the new era of ZenBooks from its overall design to its use of Alder Lake processors. However, some design changes may not suit everyone, and we have to see how much ASUS plans to price the ZenBook 14 OLED (UX3402) in the Philippines.

The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is a pretty solid ultraportable productivity laptop that can serve anyone well. The few reasons it might turn some people away is if they need touchscreen support, a more powerful machine for rendering / heavy video editing, or they can’t stomach its asking price of RM5,599. If none of these are applicable to you, then this will definitely serve you well.

We like ASUS’ brand new design language on the ZenBook 14 OLED (UX3402) and the upgrades it has to offer in the processor and battery department. However, we’re wary of its possible price since it’s laptop that does not have a discrete GPU.

A few days ago, I was still singing praises about the Huawei Matebook 14s, as I thought that it was a very well-designed notebook computer that excelled in many aspects. However, now, when compared to the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED, the Huawei Matebook 14s just doesn’t seem so impressive after all. We’ve got to say that the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is certainly a very competitive notebook PC. Priced at S$1899, it is S$100 cheaper than our subject for comparison. Moreover, it even comes with a OLED display, which one-ups the overall entertainment experience of the notebook. Thanks to the latest 12th Generation Intel Core processor, this also allows the notebook to run so much faster. Together with the latest chipset, its DDR5 memory and support for PCIe 4.0 SSD simply makes the notebook an almost perfect notebook for today. It even weighs lighter and is more portable. Suddenly, the Huawei Matebook 14s just seems to have totally lost its ground and retains no value to a consumer anymore.
