I'm struggling to think of reasons not to recommend the Asus Zenbook 15 OLED. After all: it's priced well, looks stunning, plus features a gorgeous display to boot. So if you want a portable and lightweight Windows machine then it ticks pretty much every box (provided you're not a gamer). My only hang-up is the competition really. The price does put it in the range of the MacBook Air M2 (2022) (admittedly 13-inch rather than quite 15-inch) which is a powerhouse performer with a superb battery life. If you're not a Mac fan, however, then Asus could have made an ideal Windows alternative for you. It's capable across the board, which for a product like this is exactly where you want it to be.

The Ryzen 7 7735U can maintain high clocks in short and medium loads, and decent frequencies in prolonged periods of heavy stress. The two fans aren’t too noisy but they aren’t quiet either when the processor is doing the heavy lifting. On the flip side, the fans aren’t spinning if the CPU temperature is below ~52°C. So, the machine is dead silent in idle. The keyboard isn’t too hot when the hardware is pushed to its limits. The battery life isn’t bad at all – 9 hours and 5 minutes of Web browsing or 12 hours and 30 minutes of video playback on a single charge. The upgrade options are the main con of this gadget and that’s not a surprise given the thin profile. The memory is soldered but you get up to 32GB of LPDDR5-6400MHz memory in dual-channel mode which is future-proof. In our case, the single M.2 slot is populated by a QLC SSD – that’s not good. It doesn’t impact the device’s snappiness during usage but the low TBW rating of the SSD is a con.

The ASUS Zenbook 15 OLED may not have a discrete graphics card, but it is still a zippy laptop that benefits from a fast AMD processor. It’s nicely thin and light, with a 16:9 OLED screen that’s ideal for media consumption as well as serious work. Being thin, and with such a bright screen, means that battery life could be better, but a compromise needed to be made somewhere.

The Asus Zenbook 15 OLED is fantastic in pretty much every way, with battery life the only real exception. Consider investing in a spare charger, just in case you leave your main one at home. Think of this as a bigger version of the company’s Zenbook 14X OLED, just with an AMD processor instead of an Intel one and USB4 rather than Thunderbolt 4 support. If any of those are important to you, your decision between the two is made. It’s a worthwhile alternative to the Surface Laptop 5, but the 15in MacBook Air might be more to your liking if you can do without Windows.

If you’re planning to use the Zenbook with an external display much of the time, then you might be able to save some money - and a few hours of battery life - by opting for a laptop that has a more conventional display. But, if you value the sheer eye-catching video and graphics that the OLED display makes possible, then the Zenbook 15 OLED could still be a good investment. Even better, you’ll be able to enjoy that high-quality display anywhere you go, thanks to the Zenbook's smart, lightweight design.

There is something to be said about the power and performance of a machine, but for some reason, attention is also always placed on the thin dimensions and weight of the device. Aside from Apple though, few laptop makers have taken the time and effort to package it all into one machine and with the ASUS Zenbook 15 OLED, the Taiwanese manufacturer comes close in creating a machine that looks great, performs incredibly, and surprises with how thin and light it is.

Asus’ 2023 take on the Zenbook 15 is hard to hate, even though it comes a hair’s width away from being great in so many departments. As a cohesive whole, it’s a highly credible laptop - one which looks fantastic, runs incredibly fast, stays cool under pressure, and does more with integrated graphics than we might have expected. It could have been one of the best Ultrabooks out there and might even reach our coveted best laptops list - so bear that in mind while we contrast the good with our list of minor gripes. The 120Hz OLED screen is absolutely fantastic - but OLED comes with a heavy battery cost, one the Asus Zenbook 15 UM3504 isn’t necessarily ready to pay. Just over six hours isn’t quite there. The chassis, in our review model a fetching deep blue, looks gorgeous, but it’s been given an inconsistent-feeling keyboard with slightly iffy backlighting.

With its slender frame, light weight and beautiful OLED screen, the Zenbook 15 OLED is a laptop that’s going to please a lot of people. The ergonomics are rock solid and it’s a pleasure to use. The Ryzen 7 processor gives you some 3D performance, but there’s still not enough for a games machine. You can look to this device’s more graphically-powerful stablemate, the Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (2023), for an added power boost. More mobile users might want something slightly smaller and lighter, with better battery life, and Asus has you covered there too. The Zenbook S 13 OLED (2022) is excellent in that department, as are the HP Dragonfly Pro and Galaxy Book 3 Pro. If graphical power and ultra-portability don’t worry you, buy away. This is a cracking thinner, lighter 15-incher.
