Seeing double. Asus wants to one-up Apple's Touch Bar with an even crazier idea of turning the traditional touchpad into a full-fledged 1080p secondary display. Surprisingly enough, it's actually quite useful and more than just a novelty. We can see the unique feature becoming a mainstay in Asus' flagship series in another generation or so when all the wrinkles and drawbacks can be ironed out.

The Asus ZenBook Pro UX580GD is big and heavy, as is its AC adapter, and battery life isn't great. All of which means that this 15.6-inch laptop will spend most of its time deskbound. On the plus side, the screen is superb, and there's plenty of CPU and GPU power on offer.

The touchscreen touchpad in the Asus ZenBook Pro 15 is a fun party trick, but doesn't yet make the case that it's something you actually need.

The Asus ZenBook Pro is a very capable desktop-replacement laptop thanks to its Core i9 CPU and 15-inch 4K display, but its star attraction is a touchpad that doubles as a second screen.

The ZenBook Pro can go toe-to-toe with the MacBook Pro when it comes to performance. And the much-hyped ScreenPad can actually be more useful than Apple’s TouchBar. Still, poor battery life holds the entire system back, and we wish the ScreenPad ecosystem was stronger at launch.

The ZenBook Pro 15 certainly looks like its big enough to accommodate a full-size SD card slot so it is puzzling why ASUS would decide to ditch it for a microSD card reader instead. This will likely inconvenience many photographers, a good number of whom still shoot with SD cards.

The ASUS ZenBook Pro 15 UX580GE is a formidable creativity powerhouse in the ultrabook market. It’s got an amazing display, powerful internals, great sounding speakers, and a ScreenPad that totally beats out Apple’s Touch Bar in our opinion.

To conclude, the laptops come loaded with pretty interesting specifications. The ZenBook Pro 15 gives a stiff competition to MacBook Pro 15, though it features the similarly-inspired Touch Bar in select MacBook Pro models. The ZenBook S and ZenBook 13 are the ones that will face a stiff competition from the brands like Lenovo, HP, Acer and Dell.

We applaud Asus for trying something new and different with the ScreenPad feature. However, the company seems to have let its clever ideas run wild, and too many features and modes have been combined into one device. ScreenPad mode needs a lot of work, and all apps need to work like the Office toolbars and YouTube extension. Extension Display mode has very limited usefulness and the implementation is a total trainwreck, breaking the most basic habits that people have when using touchscreens.

Asus, like we said above, has taken a bold move this year with the ZenBook Pro 15. The laptop is definitely a beast in terms of specifications and features but when we talk about its most highlighted feature - the ScreenPad, a lot still needs to be done. One could say that it has limited use for now and given that its literally a smartphone embedded in a laptop, the room for improvement is immense. But nonetheless, what is there right now is good enough to be called as the most productive tool we’ve seen on any laptop till date. We are yet to see what kind of reactions the device will get in the market. However, it sure is something innovative and what can be called as something out of the box.

While there’s a lot to marvel at in terms of the ZenBook Pro’s specifications, its performance is variable during daily tasks, which makes its high asking price seem unnecessary. It’s still capable of handling editing tasks as well as gaming, but heating issues with the i9 processor keep it from its full potential.

The Zenbook Pro’s dual-screen design may sound a little gimmicky, but from what I’ve seen it has a lot of potential, especially for power users and creatives. The second display not only looks great but is highly customisable, so if Asus can iron out the few performance niggles I experienced, I can see the second screen being a key selling point for both Zenbook Pro models.

Asus knows that it will grab headlines and eyeballs with the ScreenPad, but we fear that real-world use will prove to be a bit complicated. A secondary Users will especially struggle with when to use it like a touchscreen as opposed to a trackpad. A lot will also depend on software makers, and wide support is not guaranteed, considering that this isn't an industry standard. We'll have much more detail when we get to use and live with the new ZenBook Pro models over a longer period of time. If and when Asus launches them in India, we'll have a full, detailed review.

ASUS’ new ZenBook Pro 14 and 15 have two screens each, and that’s not even due to some new-fangled design in the style of the company’s Project Precog concept PC. Instead, the 5.5-inch trackpads on the laptops serve double duty as touchscreen IPS displays, and they’re meant to improve your ability to multi-task.

Also, to (effectively) perfect colour accuracy on its own display, the ASUS ZenBook Pro supports up to three external 4K displays thanks to the two USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports. (If you’re counting, that makes up to five displays in total, including the ScreenPad.)

Pricing and availability aren't yet known, though Asus also showed off a slightly smaller, 14-inch version. It doesn't have the high-end options of its sibling, as it maxes out with an i7-powered, FHD display laptop with a Max Q GeForce 1050 GPU -- though that'll be far more than most people need.

On paper, the Zenbook Pro UX580 is a stunning computer for content creators and graphics professionals: it looks great, is built well, it comes with a wide-gamut 4K touchscreen and an excellent hardware configuration with the mobile Coffee Lake Core i9 processor, GTX 1050 Ti graphics and fast storage. In real life, this 2018 update inherits all the quirks of the 2017 models, and I'm not sure that interesting LCD screen placed beneath the trackpad and the aggressive pricing are enough to justify picking this over the competition.
