ASUS ZenFone 2 Smartphone Review: The Budget Android Wonder
Source: Techgage English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
Since we’re nearing the end of the review and I still haven’t touched on the ZenFone 2’s camera, I’ll do that now. During the time I’ve had with the phone, I didn’t put too much emphasis on photo snapping simply because it became obvious quick that this phone’s camera isn’t going to impress too many people. Yet again, I have to pull the “What else do you expect from a $200 phone?” trick out of my hat.

70% Asus Zenfone 2 review: Most things handled well, despite heavy skin; but a disappointing camera
Source: Tech2.in.com English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
Asus Zenfone2 presents a good overall package with high performance numbers. But the excessive bloatware can be a concern for many buyers. While Asus may think it is adding value for its users, not everyone likes unnecessary software shoved down their throats. The least Asus can do is give the option to uninstall unwanted apps. We all know how Samsung has cut down on its bloatware significantly in recent times. The good thing though is that despite the heavy skinning the responsiveness of the phone isn’t affected thanks to 4GB of RAM.

The Asus Zenfone 2 is not a smartphone you fall in love with at first sight. And yet, it’s one of the best midrange phones around, with remarkable battery life, a great screen, and powerful processors that can do anything you’d ask of your mobile. Between the two versions, I’d recommend the cheaper one—the low cost and huge battery easily make it one of the most interesting devices in the under-$200 price range.

In terms of specs, the Zenfone 2 has a lot to flaunt over its predecessor. The variant we reviewed comes with 4 GB RAM and a powerful processor. Screen resolution has also gone up. However, its 13 megapixel camera doesn't live up to the expectations. As far as the fit and finish go, I prefer the Zenfone 5 over the new phone.

I know people have given Asus a tough time for the bloatware situation on the ZenFone 2, but it shouldn't dismiss the fact that from a performance and daily use standpoint, the phone is an incredible value at $200. The $300 model may be tempting, but consider that the $100 difference is a 50% upsell, and you may not even need the extra RAM or clock speed. The base model is what I would get if I needed a new phone mid-upgrade cycle, or broke my on-contract phone. I don't think it's going to change how Samsung, LG, and Sony price their flagships, but the Asus ZenFone 2 should put into perspective what kind of hardware you can get at a great off-contract price.

70% Asus ZenFone 2 review: Don't judge this phone by its cover
Source: PC World English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
As I mentioned earlier, there are two versions of this phone: a $200 variant with 2GB of RAM and a $300 variant with 4GB of RAM. My experience with the 4GB variant was relatively positive—enough that I feel like the ZenFone 2 is worth its $300 price tag right off the lot. It’s an unlocked phone with dual SIMs and a memory expansion slot, in addition to 64GB of storage. It supports a large library of LTE bands around the world, so you’re covered almost anywhere you go with the ZenFone 2 in tow. And you can swap out those back covers and personalize the phone the way you see fit.

As far as mid-range phones go, the Moto G still succeeds for its fantastic front-facing stereo speakers and clean near-stock Android interface, but if you’re looking for something a little more powerful with a slightly better camera, the ZenFone 2 is worth considering.

ASUS ZenFone 2 review (4GB RAM, ZE551ML) – ASUS is definitely up to something here
Source: Laptop Media English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
Even though ASUS isn’t renown with its mobile devices, we are sure that the Taiwanese company is on the right track. ASUS’ flagship smartphone might be missing some key features that are present in today’s top-tier handsets like the LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6 and etc. However, the hardware, design, the Zen UI, and performance can easily match each and every one of the competitors out there. Practically, you get a smartphone with great battery life, appealing design, good screen quality for a price that matches a typical upper-mid-ranger.

The Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML stands before us after the rigorous battery of tests, having proven itself as the smartphone it was advertised to be - a balanced midrange offering that is easy on your wallet. The Asus Zenfone 2 is a pretty good phone with some features that make it borderline great. It has a processor that’s fast enough to handle anything you can throw at it, a big screen that looks great for reading, web surfing, gaming, or watching videos, and a nice array of wireless features, including support for connecting to two different cellular networks at once.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) Review: Game Changer
Source: PC Perspective English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
I was extremely impressed with the Zenfone 2 overall, and after a couple of weeks of constant use I find that I could easily make this my daily driver. From the snappy processor to the fantastic touchscreen (with an excellent IPS display panel under it), it's a pleasure to use. The phone looks good with its understated style, and the ASUS ZenUI elements were pretty unobtrusive and added some nice functionality. The camera is only average, though it has a very effective low-light option that made a considerable difference in real-world use.

The ZenFone 2 isn't as powerful as the Samsung Galaxy S6 nor the HTC One M9, but it's also half as expensive. When you consider the value proposition (or bang for your buck, as it were), it's hard to really knock Asus' latest. While it occasionally falls a little short on the benchmarking front, we're reaching an time where scores matter a little less, and real-world experience matters a lot more.

ASUS ZenFone 2 Review: A real Mid-range Smartphone Kick in the Pants

If you're in the market for a new phone, you've got a data plan with AT&T, T-Mobile USA, or any other GSM-based network, and you're upgrading from a phone that's a couple years old or older, the ASUS ZenFone 2 is a SOLID choice. Especially at this price range - anywhere from $199 to $299 for a device that's unlocked and ready to roll - that's a real rarity in today's smartphone market.

Asus is smart for attacking the entry-level segment of the market, as opposed to breaking into the high-end, which means tangling against some of the juggernauts floating about right now. Spending an intimate amount of time with the Zenfone 2, we’re confident that this is the kind of phone that grows on you over time. Initially, the design didn’t particularly win us over, but the more we use the phone and absorb all of its rich features, that’s when we truly realize its potential.

It's quite surprising that Asus is not making efforts to push the 2GB RAM variant of the Zenfone 2. The device, with its new Intel processor, performs better than any other sub-15k smartphone, and though the phone has a few weaknesses, it's without a doubt the best buy below 15k right now as long as you don't mind the generous form factor.

78% ASUS ZenFone 2 review: the pragmatist’s powerhouse
Source: Pocketnow English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
But of all those, the ZenFone 2 is definitely the most audacious. For one of the first-ever 4GB smartphones to also hit store shelves with one of the lowest price tags is almost revolutionary. What’s more, the amped-up specs actually make it a more enjoyable phone to use. This device packs responsiveness, customizability, and tons of features into an absurdly potent hardware package, and it throws in a pretty good camera to boot. For a power-hungry pragmatist on a budget, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than the ASUS ZenFone 2. And in a broader sense, it’ll be interesting to see how other smartphone manufacturers cope with the new reality that products like this are ushering in.

Throughout the course of this review you may have noticed that I often compared the ZenFone 2 to high end smartphones like the Galaxy S6, the iPhone 5s and 6, the LG G3, etc. You may have felt that it was unfair to do so, as those smartphones will cost anywhere between two and four times as much as the ZenFone 2 depending on which model of each device you are comparing.

Asus Zenfone 2 is a cheap way to upgrade to an Android 5.0 Lollipop phone, housing a 5.5-inch display and solid specs to boot. But a dull screen, plastic design and poor camera hold this handset back.

Asus crammed more RAM into its phone than any company before, and its Intel Atom CPU smokes other midrange unlocked phones like the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 and OnePlus One. Its removable back plate adds both style (with additional colors and designs) and substance (with access to the microSD and dual SIM card slots). I also appreciate some of the software features Asus included, such as ZenUI Launcher, gesture control and PC Link.

Asus Zenfone 2 reviewed, a step in the right direction

The Zenfone 2 is a very nice device for the money, but this causes a bit of problem – what sort of money? Which version should you buy, and in which region? It’s a tricky question and the answer depends on where you live and whether or not you need 4GB of RAM. The Zenfone 2 is still not available in all markets, but if you really want one, you can order it online. Personally, I feel the T3560/4GB model, which the Fudzilla team tested, hits the sweet spot.

It’s all about pricing with the Asus Zenfone 2. For a price-tag of 20k, this phone would be a really good buy. The performance is what you buy this phone for and irrespective of the flaws in the design, it's a minor mistep for an affordable flagship. There's a lot going for the Zenfone 2 and it would make for a good buy. It’s no ordinary Zenfone and while you do compromise a bit on the battery and a lot on the camera, Asus can justify that with the right pricing. If you’re looking for good performance in an affordable smartphone, then this will be one of the phones to go for. If you want a very good camera, then the OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi4 should take precedence.

The 5.5-inch display is not overly bright, but puts out great colors and the FullHD resolution is still plenty sharp at this diagonal. Battery endurance isn't anything special but the Zenfone 2 still manages two and a half days overall and screen on-times are around the 8-hour mark. That is, if you refrain from using Asus' own browser, which kills the battery in no time.

The Asus Zenfone is technically a mid-range smartphone, but it certainly doesn’t act or feel like one. Things aren’t particularly different or unique in terms of design, and the inspiration from existing devices is obvious, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, and the build quality is definitely solid. It’s made of plastic like its predecessors, but the phone doesn’t feel cheap in the hand and is very well put together.

There is a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera with Asus's PixelMaster technology and a 5-megapixel front camera as well.
