The Zenfone 5 is a new smartphone from Asus, with a finve-inch HD Touchscreen. The ASUS ZenFone 5 is an excellent mid-range smartphone with a terrific cost/benefit ratio. It is as resourceful as the Sony Xperia T3 (which is more expensive), and costs as much as the Motorola Moto G, famous for its excellent price point.

The Asus Zenfone 5 is nicely-designed budget phone with a cool user interface, a plethora of storage options and a reasonable price to boot. However our enthusiasm is hobbled by the fact that the battery is rubbish - and it’s not replaceable, a cardinal sin.

Power users may find the relatively low-end processor and middling battery life limiting, but otherwise the value of the Asus Zenfone 5 is undeniable. A 4G phone with a decent 5in screen and solid performance all for £200 is rare. The Zenfone 5 sets a standard that is unlikely to be matched by the biggest names such as Samsung and Sony this year.

If you are not concerned about 4G or being a version behind on the software, the ZenFone 5 is very easy to recommend. It is a very compelling package having a great screen, decent camera, good performance and a nice software skin. The only device that comes close is the Moto G. Asus should have released the ZenFone 5 eight months ago. Had Asus done that, it might have propelled it to the top of the mid-range Android class. As it is, Asus misses out not by having a weak device, instead it is the timing that seems wrong.

Overall, we're pleasantly surprised by the Asus ZenFone range. There's a smartphone to suit everyone here, whatever your budget and whatever screen size you prefer. We're excited to see what Asus has up its sleeve next, and we expect rivals will be curious and perhaps slightly worried, too.

The Asus Zenfone 5 offers much of the experience of a phone that, until recently, would have cost twice the price. However, its main competitor, the pocket-pleasing Moto G (2014), does make it tough for the Asus to truly stand out. If Asus were to add a better battery, boost the maximum screen brightness then this phone would be a step ahead. Even so, if you're on a budget then it's definitely one to check out. As a first stab at making a mainstream phone, the Asus Zenfone 5 is a fine effort.

We really like the ZenFone 5. From its design and battery life to its software and price tag, this smartphone has got a lot going for it. However, it's well worth checking whether Motorola's Moto G is a better choice for you, as it could save you a bit of money but provide very similar features, including an 8Mp camera, a 294ppi 5in IPS screen and a microSD slot (though it only adds up to 32GB).

After the searing disappointment of the Asus Zenfone 4, the Zenfone 5 is a real relief. It’s better in almost every respect, and easily merits the extra cash. It's an excellent phone in most respects, and should help put Asus on the map as a phone-maker to watch out for if you want a good-value phone. For now it’s a pretty good alternative to the Motorola Moto G if you want a slightly larger screen. If that sounds like you, stick it on your shortlist. There are a couple of little bits to tweak in the Asus Zenfone 5, but the value on offer here is fantastic. Other 5-inch phones at the price don’t get you screens anywhere near as good as this.

The Asus Zenfone 5 starts at Rs 12,999, although at the launch, Asus said you could find it for as low as Rs 10,000, for the 8GB model. In our books, that seems like unbeatable value when you consider its rich feature-set and good all-round performance. It’s really hard to fault the Zenfone 5 as it doesn’t really stumble much in any department. The Moto G seems to have met its match, finally!

The Asus Zenfone 5 is good enough value in other aspects of the package that it could be worth overlooking any issues with the camera and battery life. Its size and price is relatively unique, with its competitors either costing more, having inferior specifications in other areas, or packing smaller displays. If you’re after a 5.0-inch smartphone with decent hardware at the lowest possible cost, the Zenfone 5 will likely suit your needs.

People looking for a phone with a big screen can definitely consider the Asus ZenFone 5, which is priced at an amazingly low Rs. 9,999. Its features and performance give it an edge over most of the competition, not only in the sub-Rs. 10,000 segment but also against many higher-priced phones such as the Nokia Lumia 630 Dual SIM (Review | Pictures).

The ZenFone 5 is an aggressively priced handset. Selling for Rs 10,000, this handset gives the Moto G a run for its money. The ZenFone 5 shines with its sturdy construction and stylish looks. Its screen and performance are as good if not better than the Moto G. In the camera department, it trashes Motorola's more expensive offering. In short, if you're in for a budget Android handset with all round performance, the ZennFone 5 is the handset to get. Yes, it's better than the Moto G, and its success will propel Intel as a serious competitor in the smartphone silicon market.

If Asus puts a smart price tag on the ZenFone 5, then it could give the Moto G a run for its money. It offers a good looking design and respectable performance capability. There are many other reliable brands out there in the market, and Asus has done a good job with the Zenfone 5. But having said that, it will have to do a lot more if it wants to give the other brands tough competition. The smartphone is not a bad choice if you are aiming for a mid-ranged device with a decent performance package and design, but quite honestly, there is room for improvement.

The Asus ZenFone 5 packs a punch with its screen and solid build quality. It's pretty impressive for a mid-range phone. However, we would like to wait for the price to be announced officially before commenting on the overall value for money. One thing is for sure, if the ZenFone 5 is priced between Rs. 10,000 and 15,000, it will be compared to the popular Moto G and could be a pretty good alternative for those who prefer large screens.
