Reviews for the BlackBerry Motion
A BlackBerry without a physical keyboard! Nothing like this has ever happened before. The BlackBerry Motion shows that it can be done, without a physical keyboard. The latest Smartphone from the brand is based on Google’s Android OS instead of the conventional BlackBerry OS. The preferred audience, however, continues to be business people.

The BlackBerry Motion is a solid handset that offers just enough to make things interesting. The design is different, the build is solid, the software has the firm's touches on it to make it stand out from the crowd. These are all great things but what most will question, before even getting to experience it, is the price. When all is said and done, you're looking at $449.99 for the unlocked variant in the United States which, for some, can be a hard pill to swallow.

BlackBerry's latest Android smartphone opts for a bigger screen instead of a physical keyboard, but brings the same focus on productivity and security.

If all of that sounds great to you, you'll have a wonderful time with the BlackBerry Motion. Just keep in mind that you won't get top-of-the-line performance or an award-winning camera, even so, both the CPU and camera do their jobs fairly well. At the end of the day, this is a respectable phone with decent specs, a reliable software experience with regular security updates, and a reputable name in smartphones with a Chinese phone maker backing it up.

With a focus on productivity and security, in a water/dust-resistant design that looks the business, combined with a battery that outlasts most others, the BlackBerry Motion is a sensible choice for BlackBerry fans who want to move away from physical keys.

The BlackBerry Motion isn't impressive in any particular area; everything about it is average. It's not bad, it's just not doing anything to set itself apart from the rest of the competition, and in a market full of outstanding smartphones, it's nothing special.

When it comes to your traditional ‘BlackBerry’ device, many people still have the perception of a business-only phone with a physical keyboard running a secure email system. In fact, the company has moved on.

The Motion isn't so much a big step forward for the BlackBerry line as it is a revamped KEYone, only now without the hardware keyboard. And really, that's not the worst idea for a phone we've ever heard. While some users absolutely loved that keyboard, it was a pretty divisive feature, and if you thought it was ridiculous we'd be trading valuable screen real estate for something that could be implemented perfectly well in software – well, the Motion is just what you've been looking for.

The second smartphone developed by BlackBerry Mobile is an all-touch affair, and it manages to get more right than wrong. The combination of a mid-range chipset, a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and an enormous battery mean the new BlackBerry Motion routinely runs for two days on a single charge. We also appreciated the handful of valuable software features layered on top of Android, something we can't say of every phone maker. Unfortunately, the camera's performance left a lot to be desired, and there are more powerful devices available in the same price range. Ultimately, it's a good phone, but not a very good deal.

This all-screen Android offers a flavour of the BlackBerry experience in a more modern, water-resistant package. It’s held back by dated hardware and a lacklustre camera, but impressive battery life means workaholics might just love it.

The BlackBerry Motion takes the DNA of the BlackBerry KEYone, adds a bigger battery, IP67 water and dust resistance, and loses the keyboard in favor of an all touchscreen design. It has all the right components to continue the momentum created by the KEYone but could potentially be held back by it's limited availability.

At the end of the day, reviews are personal opinion, and in my opinion the BlackBerry Motion is a fantastic little handset with a great user experience. It's not perfect, but I've found it one of the most compelling smartphone experiences in a long while.

If you prefer a full-screen device as opposed to a BlackBerry with a physical keyboard, the BlackBerry Motion is a well-built Android smartphone with fantastic battery life. As previously mentioned, the convenience key offers added functionality and the BlackBerry apps add increased productivity.

Even without a keyboard, the Motion is very much a BlackBerry phone: firmly focused on productivity, with a design and specs to match.

The Motion fits within the parameters BlackBerry set for it. It is reliable, productivity-focused and offers great battery life. It does those things well, partly at the expense of the camera, which isn’t as good as other phones in its price range.

BlackBerry is never again going to be what it was before iPhones and Androids took over the smartphone market. However, the BlackBerry Motion does carve out a little space within Android that may well appeal to the fans of BlackBerry Curves and Bolds back in the company’s heyday.

The BlackBerry Motion proves a difficult device to rate. It’s too big, and there’s not much to tempt a casual smartphone buyer here aside from outstanding battery life. It is too austere and clunky even in comparison to the KeyOne, and won’t stand out in the £400 price bracket – a price hangover from the premium leanings of the BlackBerry name.

The Motion might not be the sexiest smartphone around, but you get a lot for your £399. That feature-packed software is the best part, with a strong emphasis on security and staying organised, while the incredible battery life won’t leave you in the lurch. If only the camera were more capable and the processor a little nippier, we’d have no complaints at all.

So far I've been pretty bowled over by the BlackBerry Motion, it's a really fun little handset to get to grips with and has a lot of enjoyable and useful features. It feels innovative and interesting to use, as if it's been streamlined to include only what you really need on a phone rather than going all-out on one area and becoming imbalanced. I'll have to see whether the sheen wears off over time or if this handset can go the distance and keep me coming back for more.

The full-touch BlackBerry Motion isn't a phone that gets you excited. That doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with it but it's clearly not aiming for the highend segment.
