Dell has managed to achieve a pretty rare feat in the 2-in-1 market - creating a device larger than 13in that's actually worth considering. It caters for those that love a larger screen, but still want the functionality of a convertible, without the resulting package feeling clunky.

Overall, the new XPS 15 2-in-1 qualifies as a superb addition to and extension of one of Dell’s most iconic product lines. By upgrading the system with Intel’s latest CPUs with AMD Radeon graphics, Dell has created a sleek, premium, powerhouse offering that qualifies as one of the market’s best and most innovative hybrid 2-in-1 solutions.

Dell's first XPS 15 2-in-1 makes some controversial choices, including its all-USB connectivity and MagLev keyboard, but its powerful Kaby Lake G part offers top-notch performance in a slim profile.

As we said earlier, we’re just sad that we’re basically done with Kaby Lake G laptop reviews after having reviewing both of them. But, it is good to end on a high note. On the negative side, we’ll admit that we weren’t fans of the MagLev keyboard, nor the all USB-C port decision. Beside the fact that it feeds trolls who can now claim that Apple was right, we’d still prefer to have straight USB Type A on a laptop rather than have another dongle to lose. The MagLev keyboard? Well, you get used to it, and the snappy sound and feel is tolerable.

A 15in convertible laptop is a niche proposition by any measure, but between the InfinityEdge display and slimline Intel-AMD chip, Dell has produced the most compelling version of the form factor yet.

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is a very good laptop, and there is plenty to like about it. At this point, I should be raving about the quality of the display, but my memory of this machine will be the fan, its incessant noise, and wondering whether the laptop would heat my jeans like the devices from a decade ago.

The XPS 15 2-in-1 can also be paired with Dell’s new Premium Active Pen. The pen offers up to 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and with palm rejection technology and tilt support (so you can shade). The Dell Active Premium Active Pen is sold separately and is priced at US$99.99. It will be available in the US in April and then the rest of the world in June.

We’re not convinced by the maglev keyboard, and haven’t yet been able to fully test the new Intel-AMD chip, but the XPS 15 2-in-1 promises a lot of power in a sleek design. A big-screen convertible still feels like an undeniably niche product, but for the right user, Dell’s design could be hard to beat.

But it does come at a price: retailing from $1,300 (about RM5,215), it’s quite a pricey laptop. Nonetheless, set to be available sometime in spring 2018, I’m definitely excited to see how much Dell will price the XPS 15 2-in-1 once it arrives in Malaysia.

It's a hybrid inside a hybrid. That's the best way to think about the new XPS 15 two-in-one from Dell. This big-screen laptop has a 360-degree hinge, so it folds all the way back to form a tablet -- we've seen that plenty of times before, but never in Dell's high-end XPS 15 line.

Instant XPS classic. Dell is betting big on the unproven Kaby Lake-G platform and its MagLev keyboard to carry the new XPS 15 2-in-1 forward. The end result feels like the XPS we know and love while being thinner, quieter, cooler, and nearly as powerful as the standard XPS 15 that it derives from.

this is a highly capable 2-in-1, yet unless you're absolutely convinced you'll be rotating the display on a regular basis, we came away feeling as though the traditional XPS 15 laptop, with a hexa-core processor, would be the best way of enjoying Dell's terrific 4K IPS touchscreen.

A powerful, portable and versatile hybrid, but with the price tag to match. The XPS 15 2-in-1 is very attractive machine indeed, with an anodized aluminium lid and carbon-fibre keyboard that are becoming familiar sights on Dell’s premium machines. There are chunky aluminium hinges, and build quality is consistently excellent: there’s no give in any of the Dell’s panels, the screen is sturdy, and the hinges are rock-solid.

As we’ve already mentioned several times, the price of an XPS 15 9575 2-in-1 is pretty high. But if this is not a problem for you, then the machine is worth it in every aspect. Many business laptops, even high-end ones, are bulky and solid in order to be more reliable but XPS 15 9575 is only 9-16 mm thick, and in terms of dimensions looks like a 13-14-inch model thanks to its super slim bezels. However, this doesn’t mean it’s unreliable – its construction is made of aluminum, steel, carbon and Gorilla Glas 4 glass, and it also doesn’t sink in or make awkward noises even under significant pressure. The only setback as a result of the dimensions is the lack of USB Type-A ports, however, there is a dongle in the package.

Dell hasn’t tweaked the outer design that much, but the improvements it has made to the XPS 15 2-in-1’s keyboard and screen are subtle but important upgrades. Add to this the new G Series CPU and graphics options and the laptop easily earns its place as one of 2018’s best Ultrabooks.

As we said, we consider 15.6-inch convertibles to be niche products, laptops destined for only infrequent use in Tablet or Stand mode that pack the weight of three or four genuine tablets. Within this group, however, the XPS 15 2-in-1 stands out for its doubly potent processor, forward-thinking ports, and classy design. It's a worthy competitor not only to other large hybrids but to the original XPS 15, which has long been one of our favorites. Only its bulk keeps it from challenging the Editors' Choice Yoga 920.

For all its premium, fantastic-looking build quality, high performance, and optimized form factor, unsurprisingly the XPS 15 2-In-1 is not cheap. Dell will have a $1,299 base level SKU starting on 4/23, but for now the entry level price is $1,499. Our machine as configured with a 1TB SSD, 16GB of RAM, and the 4K panel runs for a hefty $2,549. That said, as far as 15-inch convertible 2-in-1 laptops go, Dell did a fantastic job with the XPS 15 2-In-1, making it easy to recommend.

Higher price, same CPU performance. The Core i5 XPS 15 9575 impressed us in terms of raw performance and graphical prowess for such a thin convertible. The Core i7 SKU performs just as well, albeit at very marginal benefits. For better or worse, the differences between the i5 and i7 SKUs are smaller than we had anticipated.
