Google’s new Pixelbook Go is the ultimate Chromebook for anyone that doesn’t want to spend a grand on Google’s previous Pixelbook. Its astonishing battery life and amazing keyboard are just two of this Chromebook’s selling points, and it has very few downsides for both average users and dedicated fans of Google and Chrome OS.

With a portable design, crisp display, quiet keyboard and all-day battery, the Pixelbook Go is a brilliant Chromebook option - though the higher-spec models are on the pricey side.

The real knockout blow is that price, though. At less than £700 before tax, it’s amazing value, and you’re unlikely to find a laptop that’s this capable and well-designed at this price - no matter what OS it’s running. This is a no-brainer for organisations using G-Suite, but even if you aren’t, this might just be what convinces you to give it a go.

Nimble, lovely to use and great looking, the Pixelbook Go is speedy and has a battery that lasts all day. It might still be a bit more expensive than other brands' Chromebooks, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than previous Pixelbook models, which we think makes it a real winner.

The excellent design, materials, and construction are surely highlights here, as are the crisp display, and robust performance. If these are worth the price premium to you, then you won’t be disappointed. More budget-conscious buyers will find their needs easily fulfilled by lesser Chromebooks.

There’s plenty to like about the Google Pixelbook Go; it feels like the first Chromebook from the company that actually stands a chance. It’s certainly well-designed, which in itself is a rarity for a Chromebook, and is a pleasure to use. The £629 starting price feels fair – although, as I mentioned, I can’t attest to the performance of that model. It's a harder sell as the price starts to creep up over £800, except to those who are perfectly content with Chrome OS.

The Pixelbook Go gets a lot right - stunning design, long lasting battery and portability factor. It does just boil down to what is a luxurious Chromebook with a touchscreen and an in-built assistant - and we’d recommend this to anyone who travels a lot and uses Google’s suite of apps. The webcam is another plus for those who have a lot of web meetings. If you’re usually in browser mode and use cloud-based apps for work, then the Pixelbook Go is the ideal companion.

Cheaper Chromebooks are available, but we think the extra polish and power of the Pixelbook Go make it worth the additional cost – certainly at the basic £629 level. A Pixelbook Go purchase gets harder to justify at the higher price points, however, with the top-spec, 4K version costing an eye-watering £1,329.

We don’t yet know whether users will flock to the Pixelbook Go in a way they haven’t for Google’s high-end Chromebooks, or other Chromebooks in its same price range. But Google has once again made a standard that may be hard to beat. It balances price, design, features and performance very nicely indeed.

Despite the lingering appeal of the original Pixelbook, it remains a too-expensive device even today. The Pixelbook Go is a better all-around value when compared to its predecessor, but it is hard to justify the price considering the wealth of options in the market. The excellent design, materials, and construction are surely highlights here, as are the crisp display, and robust performance. If these are worth the price premium to you, then you won’t be disappointed. More budget-conscious buyers will find their needs easily fulfilled by lesser Chromebooks.

If you’re looking for the best Chromebook money can buy, the Pixelbook Go is a great option. That being said, most people will be better served by a cheaper Chromebook alternative or a Windows laptop if they need more than what Chrome OS has to offer.

Heavy-duty content creation types, gamers, and graphic artists may not appreciate the Chromebook model and only realize enough performance and capability with Windows or Mac machine. However, much of the mainstream market is not made up of videographers, gamers, or graphic artists, but rather they just consume content, do research, write, edit and communicate vie email or social media, and maybe create or edit an image here or there. The fact is that many users will get by with the simplicity of a Chromebook. If the Chromebook ecosystem as it exists today satisfies your personal requirements, and if you desire a premium Chromebook experience, the Pixelbook Go may be one of the best options on the market right now.

In the end, there are going to be Chromebooks that launch later this year that will have more impressive spec sheets, more features, newer processors, and flashier designs. But I’m dubious that we’ll see another Chromebook come close to the feeling you get when using the Pixelbook Go. I think in nearly every way, Google just nailed it with this Chromebook, and I sincerely hope a ton of people give it a chance. At $649, there’s just nothing else quite like it.

To conclude our PixelBook Go review, notice I don’t have anything I can’t say I don’t like. Like the original Pixelbook which I still adore and use, the PixelBook Go feels like if Google really thought the name out well. We’ve got a very sleek and light design that makes it a joy to carry, battery life that’ll get you through a day of work, and ChromeOS has matured in such a way that I actually want to use this laptop for work.

All in all, the Pixelbook Go feels like another reference design instead of an actual laptop. Competitors like Dell offer better-equipped Chromebooks, like the Inspiron Chromebook 14, a two-in-one laptop with an integrated stylus that, while not as svelte, can do more in general, bringing you better value for the money. Still, if you know exactly what you need out of it, there’s something about it’s cool factor that might make you look twice at the Pixelbook Go.

When Google vice president of hardware design Ivy Ross introduced the Pixelbook Go on October 15, she said they set out to make a laptop that would be “fast, last all day, and look and feel beautiful,” but with a more attainable price point. The Pixelbook Go achieves that with very few compromises. We don’t yet know whether users will flock to the Pixelbook Go in a way they haven’t for Google’s high-end Chromebooks, or other Chromebooks in its same price range. But Google has once again made a standard that may be hard to beat.

Google has done a great job with the Pixelbook Go's hardware, and bringing the price of the system down compared to its standard Pixelbook is a good start — but it's still too much to ask for most consumers.

The Pixelbook Go's thin-and-light chassis, elegant design, strong overall performance and lengthy battery life make it one of the best Chromebooks, period. Still, we wish this Pixelbook had a convertible hinge or USB-A ports.

The Pixelbook Go is a stupendous all-round laptop that doesn't pretend to be anything different. It can't fold to become a tablet, but it can last nearly 10 hours on a charge and make typing feel fun again. This is the premium Chromebook to buy right now.

Google’s most affordable Chromebook yet is a solid all-around laptop. It’s not as eye-catching as the original Pixelbook, and Google cut a few corners to get the price down (most notably the display).. But the Pixelbook Go covers the basics well and should serve most people well.

Simplicity in product design is mostly good, but on the Pixelbook Go it also means fewer ports and fewer ways to use the screen. Neither is a deal breaker and all things considered I enjoy using the Pixelbook more than I do the C434, but that doesn’t make it a better machine.

Google's Pixelbook Go is actually quite good for what it is. It offers a superslim design, a bright display and solid performance, all topped off with great battery life. You will, however, have to deal with the low-travel keyboard and limited number of ports. The biggest strike against this system comes in the harsh-sounding speakers; you'll want to use headphones if you're listening to music.

The Pixelbook Go is a beautiful laptop, and its typing experience is unparallelled, building on the already solid foundation the original Pixelbook's keyboard provided.

What may be the most important thing I realized, though, is that the “best” laptop isn’t measured by speed, or screen resolution, or how skinny and light it is. It’s about how eager you are to use it, to get stuff done, and anything which lights a fire under that enthusiasm and stokes it higher is a device worth having. Google, by virtue of the Pixelbook Go’s keyboard, has made such a device, and if like me you spend your days typing it’s absolutely worth your consideration.

Again, I want to reiterate that these aren’t my only thoughts or my final thoughts on the Pixelbook Go. We have to talk about the screen, internals, battery, performance, price, models, and the handful of features this devices shrugs off to get down to a realistic price tag. Those things will all be covered in the full review, and I promise it will be coming soon. But at a starting price of $649 (and I can confidently recommend that model, not just the higher-priced ones), I can already tell you that if a clamshell, touchscreen Chromebook is anywhere on your radar, there is a very good chance that the Pixelbook Go is absolutely the one for you.

The new Pixelbook will be available in two colours, with only ‘Just Black’ being available at launch in Canada. The laptop’s more interesting looking ‘Not Pink’ variant — which looks similar to last year’s white Pixelbook, but with a slightly pink tinge — is “coming soon” to Canada, according to Google.

Regardless of the competition, the Pixelbook Go feels like the right move for Google. Where the original Pixelbook was too expensive for most and the Pixel Slate was too niche, the Pixelbook Go feels like a Pixelbook for everyone. It has a good mix of smarts, specs, and Google-y style that better complements the rest of Google’s product range than either of its predecessors.

I'll save my conclusive opinion for our final rated review, but this early amount of time gave me a positive impression about the Pixelbook Go. Not only is it more affordable than the original Pixelbook, but its elegant design stands on its own, its keyboard feels rock solid and its chassis doesn't feel cheap.
