The HP Dragonfly's crisp, beautiful display; lightweight design; and robust security features combine to give you a laptop that's as nice to look at as it is to use. If only it didn't cost so much that I winced when I saw our testing unit's price. You could save $300 by opting for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga, but you'd be dropping over 2 hours in battery life in exchange. That said, the HP Elite Dragonfly truly earns the Elite branding, as this laptop's elegance and endurance add up to utter excellence.

If you’re in the market for a premium notebook that isn’t a MacBook, you’d be hard pressed to find a better machine than the HP Elite Dragonfly. It’s up there with the best Windows 10 notebooks we’ve ever tested.

The only other factor that might put some people off is the price: check the widgets on this page for the latest deals, but the HP Elite Dragonfly starts at around £1,600 in the UK for the base spec. That's going to put it beyond the reach of a certain section of the market, but if this is a laptop within your budget, we'd suggest giving it some serious consideration when it's time to upgrade.

But this Dragonfly is a luxury product. It’s the Galaxy S20 Ultra or the iPhone 11 Pro Max of business laptops; it’s awesome, but most people don’t need it. If you can go without the fancy features, a cheaper configuration will work just fine. And if you don’t need vPro and are willing to go for a ThinkPad instead, you can get a modern processor.

This is an amazing business laptop. It's super-light, it's pretty to look at, it has an incredible keyboard, and it has an excellent privacy display. It also has features like Sure Start, which checks the BIOS against a master copy and replaces it if it's corrupted. Another great feature is WorkWell, which can suggest that you take breaks or do stretches throughout the day.

If that bugs you, I'd recommend HP's flagship consumer laptop, the HP Spectre x360. It's very similar, but ships with a 10th-gen i7 for around $1,200. If price matters less than enterprise-level security, then the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 is simply the best business-class laptop we’ve ever tested, no caveats—or dongles—required.

Overall, we like the new HP Elite Dragonfly, with a few caveats. The most important issue is that it's best to wait on a purchase if you're considering this machine. While we like so many aspects of the Elite Dragonfly, it's only going to get better when the revised systems hit in February. With Intel 10th Gen-powered Elite Dragonfly systems right around the corner, we feel that the next generation of this machine will go from generating buzz to soaring to new heights.

We’ll admit, we’re impressed by the HP Elite Dragonfly. It transcends our expectations for corporate laptops. Instead of boring, black, and basic, the Elite Dragonfly is beautiful, impressively light, and surprisingly well-equipped. For consumers looking for a little more rated durability and versatility in a laptop, the Dragonfly is worth a hard look—if you can stomach the price. As a corporate laptop with manageability features such as vPro and the “faster” Core i7-8665U CPU, it’ll set you back $2,000 to $2,200. And that’s without the optional $76 HP Active Tilt Pen. You could skip the pricier corporate features and still get a lot of laptop.

The HP Elite Dragonfly is a corporate laptop offering a solid configuration with some premium options; good performance, amazing battery life; and a truly classy design. It's made for your boss, but whether it's deserved is another matter entirely.
