As must be the case with all my fellow technology journalists, people often come to me for advice on the best piece of gadget they should buy. While our answers may vary, the absolute truth in the world of gadgets is that there is no one size fits all approach. Many factors, like use-case, budget and others, determine what the best-suited gadget for you is, be it among smartphones, tablets, laptops or any other electronic equipment. That being said, there is a product every once in a while that tries to fit the bill for all kinds of users. Usually, such a product is versatile in nature, is easy to use, and comes from a legacy of well-built, reputed offerings in the market. The latest such device I managed to get my hands on is the HP Spectre x360 convertible laptop. As an explanation on the above-mentioned grounds, the Spectre x360 comes with a convertible form factor, meaning it can be used as a laptop and as a tablet, ensuring a versatile operation. It comes equipped with Windows 10 Pro out-of-the-box, an operating system that now most PC users are accustomed to.

Lisa Gade reviews the late 2020 - early 2021 HP Spectre x360 14, a redesign of HP’s premium Windows 2-in-1 laptop that keeps the gem cut design while switching to a 13.5” 3:2 aspect ratio display. The Ultrabook supports touch and the included HP active pen (MPP 2.0, aka N-Trig) and is available with Full HD+ IPS base display, a 1,000 nit Sure View Reflect privacy display and our OLED 3,000 x 2,000 display. It has Intel 11th gen processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics, a fingerprint scanner, an electronic webcam kill switch and B&O quad stereo speakers. It competes with the Microsoft Surface laptop and Surface Book, among others.

Except for wishing it had an HDMI port, we are having trouble finding anything to criticize—this Spectre x360 has the beautiful design and OLED goodness of its 15.6-inch sibling in a considerably easier-to-carry package. It not only deserves our Editors' Choice award in its category, it ranks among our top four or five laptops, period.
