Reviews for the HTC One E8

70% Review: HTC One (E8)

The HTC One (E8) offer great user experience. Although devoid of fancy features, its 13 megapixel camera produces better results compared to the flagship One (M8). In terms of media performance, including audio, video, and gaming, the phone's performance is excellent. However, it's display could have been better. Generally, HTC is very good with aesthetics, but the One (E8) doesn't come across a premium device. Therefore, if you are fine with a plasticky phone, why not go with the LG G2 that offers a vibrant screen and great camera for Rs 29,000?

The use of plastic in a phone's design can get overblown—there are right and wrong ways to use the material, but companies like Motorola, Apple, and Nokia have shown that plastic doesn't have to mean cheap. HTC's design heritage shines through with the One E8, which harkens back to the original One X, another beautifully designed plastic phone. It's a compromise, no doubt, compared with the premium feel of the M8, but nearly every other feature that made that phone great remains here, just at a discounted price. The E8 is the One for pragmatists, and thus earns our Editors' Choice award.

But the M8 this isn't, and the plastic design does make a difference. In the world of smartphones that design difference might be diminished by using a cover, but for those who don't, what the E8 lacks is that premium feel you get every time you touch your phone. The E8 might leave you wanting more: indeed it might leave you wanting the M8 instead.

At the price point, the HTC One E8 is the best looking and one of the most powerful smartphones. Despite the plastic body, it has an premium feel, combining that with high-end specs and a performance capability better than its metal brother, it seems like HTC has done well by making an affordable version of the One M8.

90% HTC One (E8) Dual SIM Review: Tweaking a Winning Formula

HTC seems to have hit another home run with the One (E8). If you do not mind the polycarbonate outer casing (we don't), it is a cheaper and much more sensible buy than its elder brother at Rs. 33,990. There are options such as the Nexus 5 (Review | Pictures), iPhone 5C and the LG G2 (Review) which are also available - but keep in mind that all of them run year-old specs. If you want the latest and greatest specs the One (E8) is definitely a great buy at this price. That is unless you want to buy two Xiaomi Mi 3 (Review | Pictures) phones.

The plastic twin to the all-conquering M8
Source: Techradar English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The HTC One E8 is a phone that I'm happy to carry around and use - as long as I don't remember than the One M8 exists. It's not a bad phone for the cash by a long way, especially if you're a fan of top specs, but without the metal body and other HTC headliners, it feels like the One E8 is missing something - and the price reduction isn't enough to really quantify the loss of soul that the M8 has in spades.

HTC One (E8) review: Android’s iPhone 5C is here
Source: Slashgear English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
Aside from a sexy metal shell, the E8 lacks something intangible. The metal sets the One apart from other Android handsets. Plastic brings it back down to earth. Like Apple’s iPhone offerings, HTC's duopoly here is meant to diversify the portfolio and price points.

HTC One (E8) review: Traveling light
Source: GSM Arena English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The HTC One series has at least one feature it can hang its hat on - premium design. This became absolutely critical with the M8, as the scorching hot flagship was outclassed by its competitors in many other areas - performance and camera being the most obvious. There goes the One (E8) - one that has to make do with its seemingly biggest advantage taken away, the aluminum unibody and its slick finish and chamfered edges replaced by polycarbonate. Now, isn't that a recipe for disaster? Especially for a company that's been struggling to regain lost market share, you'd think that moving away from your strongest suit would be a mistake. The HTC One (E8), however, has proven to be anything but.

HTC One E8: First impressions of the plastic One
Source: Pocket Lint English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
This handset is closely matched to the M8 and is visually very similar. It has the same BoomSound speakers top and bottom, framing the 5-inch full HD display. Those speakers sound just as good here as they do on the flagship model, making this one of the best sounding phones around, perfect for watching videos listening to music without having to dive straight for your headphones.

HTC Desire 616 and One (E8): First Impressions
Source: NDTV Gadgets English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
HTC on Friday launched two new Android smartphones in India, the HTC Desire 616 Dual SIM and HTC One (E8) Dual SIM, priced at Rs. 16,900 and Rs. 34,990 respectively. The company has high hopes for the two models, as they are both variations of recently launched popular models. The Desire 616 Dual SIM is the smaller sibling of the HTC Desire 816 (Review | Pictures) while the One (E8) Dual SIM is a low-cost, fashionable variant of the HTC One (M8).
