Reviews for the Honor 10
Challenge to fight. The Honor 10 represents this year's flagship smartphone of the Huawei subsidiary, offering high-end specifications with a strong dual camera at a mid-range price. Moreover, the smartphone is offered in new and unusual colors. A lower price is fine, but we evaluate in our test, which shortcomings you have to accept in exchange. Update: Update with new camera features and GPU Turbo.

Even though battery life is a little underwhelming, it’s a minor quibble with what is an exceptionally good phone for the price. The display, cameras and build quality are verging on those of a phone twice the price and the performance is the best we’ve seen on an Honor phone.

I’ve aired a few concerns and nitpicks throughout this Honor 10 review. The lack of OIS on the camera is a bummer, EMUI still won’t be to everyone’s tastes, the decision to ditch the microSD card slot is questionable, and the device itself is as slippery as a snake that’s been slithering around in olive oil for several hours.

Man, does this phone have style. That backplate, especially in the new Phantom Blue and Phantom Green colourways, is simply stunning, and adds genuine wow-factor, while the brushed aluminium frame and tidy top notch look class. There's power to spare in the Honor 10, too, thanks to that flagship-grade processor, and the device's integration of AI across the phone impressive. Samsung, Apple et al should be worried.

The Honor 10 is an interesting flagship offering because of its similarities to the Huawei P20. They almost have the same screen size, design, chipset, RAM and storage capacity, and battery. Probably their biggest differences are the camera, as the Honor 10 doesn’t have Leica optics and has its own AI image processing and, of course, the price.

The Honor 10 is an excellent mid-range handset. It has lots of features and certainly gives the Huawei P20 and P20 Plus a run for their money. There's plenty of competition in this price bracket though, and other mid-range handsets you might want to consider are the Moto G6 Plus and Asus ZenFone 5. If you're prepared a little bit more, the OnePlus 6 remains a great-value flagship-class handset.

Honor 10 is, unfortunately, not available inside the United States through traditional means. If you set your mind to it, there are several ways in which you might get your hands on one, but take caution. As it is with ALL smartphones (or otherwise personal gadgets), I recommend getting your hands on one of these smartphones before you buy.

Moving on, there are also other plenty of perks that make the honor 10 a valued for money flagship. If the battery is going flat, SuperCharge (5v/4.5A) is here to the rescue and in just within half an hour, 50% of battery will be back. The Easy Talk function is convenient too as it automatically reduces background noise or increases volume if you're whispering. Face Unlock is quite good and works in a low-light environment, but we prefer the fingerprint sensor which unlocks really fast with its ultrasonic technology. Then finally, the AI Portrait Mode and 3D Portrait Lighting can be powerful tools when mastered.

Having recently reviewed the Huawei P20 I immediately noticed so many of the same features on the Honor 10 which as both brands are in the same ownership is perhaps not that surprising however the Honor 10 is made powdered glass to make it shiny and move its back in the light and it shimmers like satin.

The Honor 10 comes in Phantom Blue and Midnight Black colors in India carrying a price tag of Rs. 32,999. It is available exclusively from Flipkart. Overall, the Honor 10 is an impressive all-rounding package and an excellent affordable alternative to Huawei P20 Pro. Nonetheless, no phone is perfect, so does the Honor 10. It has its own limitations, but that doesn’t stop us from recommending it.

In the P20 Pro Huawei has delivered a stunning phone which should be on your shortlist along with the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X. Sure, there are some niggles such as the lack of stabilisation for 4K video, no headphone jack and no wireless charging, but if your priority is photography then the P20 Pro does not disappoint.

From all the Honor flagships, be it the Honor 8 Pro, or the recent Honor View10 we saw a few months back, we have seen great things on it and the Honor 10 is no exception. It’s beautiful aurora glass design, the flagship-level performance, and a camera that takes outstanding still-photos along with AI capabilities, Monochrome shots, and some camera tricks under its sleeves.

Priced at Rs 32,999 the Honor 10 is a good buy. The smartphone offers all the high-end specifications and also packs a powerful processor. The AI camera works as an added advantage and the functionality to enable or disable the screen notch is also a welcome feature. The only issue we had we the smartphone is of the design. We have seen some really good looking phones made by Honor, but the Honor 10’s design is not up to the mark. If you are looking for alternatives, then you can consider buying the OnePlus 6 or the Samsung Galaxy A8+.

Overall, the Honor 10 is still worth buying – it really does offer a lot of features considering the price, and I think the display is a real highlight for a £400 flagship. I can’t give the Honor 10 our top award due to the occasional performance hitches – which are far from regular – but hopefully a software update can fix those niggles.

Overall though, for £399, this is a flagship. You shouldn’t see a £600, £700 or £800 price-tag as necessary in order to get a flagship smartphone. You’re effectively paying for that brand, perhaps for access to the wide range of accessories that the “well known” smartphone will no doubt have. But there’s really no need. You can order covers and cases easily enough online – sure, they might not be sold by that bloke in the local shopping mall, but you can get them and …. hey, you get a case free in the box anyway.

The Honor 10 borrows the best of the Huawei P20 features and leaves just enough to keep the phone out of the flagship territory. At Rs 32,999 in India, the Honor 10 finds itself going up against some very stiff competition. Of course, the most obvious one(plus) is the Never Settler, the OnePlus 6, which comes with a bigger AMOLED display and a newer processor, the Snapdragon 845, and starts at Rs 34,999. There are others too – Xiaomi has slashed the price of its near bezel-less Mi Mix 2 which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage to Rs 29,999; and rather interestingly, there is also the Honor View 10, which is priced at Rs 29,999, and comes with a bigger display (minus a notch too) and a larger battery as well.

We are almost halfway through 2018 but for some reason, most of the phones that were introduced in Malaysia are all mid-rangers or selfie centric devices which aren't on par with the flagship level honor 10 at all. The Honor 10’s time in the sun could also be fairly short, as competing handsets, like the Asus Zenfone 5 and fabled OnePlus 6, are expected to arrive in the UK in the very near future. The Zenfone 5 offers near-equivalent features, and is expected to retail for slightly less than £400. Details about the OnePlus 6 are scarce, but the company’s ruled the upper-mid-range phone market for the last two years, so we’re expecting big things.

Despite some of the caveats above, the ‘10’ is the best smartphone Honor has made to date. A little like the iPhone X being the best iPhone Apple has made and (coincidentally) with the same headline number, the same form factor, the same notched idea – yet the Honor 10 is roughly a third the price – and comes with a fast charger and a half decent case. The Honor 10 is a toned down Huawei P20/P20 Pro. You can say that it's a souped up Honor V10 too. What matters is that the Honor 10 brings in some of the best bits we liked about the P20/P20 Pro and the View 10: both fantastic phones in their own right at their respective price points. The package is, as a result, one that offers the best of both worlds: high-end premium looks, high-end premium hardware: at a rock bottom price.

In a world filled with rectangular blocks with displays, it takes a large effort to differentiate. The new Honor 10, launched today at an event in London, follows the trend of premium smartphones in 2018: more display, and added a notch. Under the hood is the latest HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, as seen in the Huawei Mate 10 and P20, with the added AI functional blocks to accelerate certain apps built on machine learning algorithms. The Honor line is always seen as a more cost effective way to yet most of the latest features from the Huawei main brand, and this year is no different.
