Reviews for the Honor 200

The midrange section is very saturated, with plenty of brands looking to make their mark and stand out amongst the numerous options at the $500-800 price point. Wisely enough, Honor is going the collaboration route, which adds extra value to their phones, similar to Xiaomi’s Leica collaboration or Vivo’s Zeiss partnership. However, phone collaborations are usually reserved for flagship choices, so the Honor 200 and Honor 200 Pro are among the few that generously add these perks to their midrange category. The photos and general performance from these phones are pretty good, particularly considering that the Honor 200 only costs S$599. If you enjoy taking pictures of human subjects, the Harcourt profiles (especially the Classic) are very pleasant.

The Honor 200 offers a compelling package in the sub-Rs. 35,000 segments with its vibrant display, sleek design and an impressive triple camera setup which makes it a strong contender for photography enthusiasts. However, there are some drawbacks which should be considered before making any decision. The plastic frame feels less premium compared to its metal counterparts, and the lack of Gorilla Glass protection and an IP rating might deter some users. Additionally, while the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset provides smooth performance, it doesn't excel in high-end gaming or benchmarking scores. The omission of a charging adapter in the box, despite fast charging capabilities, is another disappointment.

The Honor 200 is available for purchase in two storage variants: 8GB+256GB & 12GB+512GB, which cost Rs 34,999 and Rs 39,999, respectively. The phone does not come with a compatible charger, and the original charger will set you back an additional Rs 2,999. At its price, the chief competitors of the device include the Motorola Edge 50 Pro (review) and the Vivo V40 (review). All three phones feature the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, so there’s not a lot of difference in their performance output. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers a stock Android experience and blazing fast charging speeds, while the Vivo V40 offers better battery backup and comes in a slimmer body. Both phones also include a charger, which helps keep the cost down.

The Honor 200 is a good package if you are inclined towards a premium camera phone at a mid-range price segment. The phone features a sleek and lightweight design that looks unique. The display is crisp and is deal for content consumption. However, the camera takes centre stage here and delivers some good results with its primary sensor and portrait camera, though the same cannot be said for the wide-angle sensor. The performance is decent, and you will not face any problems during day-to-day usage. However, the phone faces stiff competition with the likes of Realme GT 6T (Review), Motorola Edge 50 Pro (Review), OnePlus Nord 4 (Review), Oppo Reno 12 Pro (Review), and more. So, if you are considering buying a camera-centric smartphone that delivers consistent performance, then you can consider the Honor 200 device.

If you're looking for a good mid-range phone with decent performance, a big battery, a good display, and a really good camera setup, then you should definitely check out the Honor 200. Sure it has a few niggles but overall it is a fairly competent package. But of the two, understandably, the Honor 200 Pro is truly a "pro" phone - especially in its impressive camera system and portrait photography mode. The filters, in collaboration with Studio Harcourt, truly give users studio-like photographs. There are some good phones out there in both Rs 40,000 price range and Rs 60,000 price range. Yet, it is good to see that Honor is making a strong statement with the Honor 200 Pro and Honor 200. Both phones not only have top of the line - for their price - chipsets, they also have top class displays and an attractive design.

For its price, the Honor 200 5G is a solid performer, ideal for users not requiring high-demand tasks and seeking excellent photography capabilities. Although it has some software quirks and subpar haptics, its impressive build quality, outstanding cameras, and excellent battery life make the Honor 200 5G a compelling choice in its segment.

With its stunning design and impressive photo capabilities, the HONOR 200 is perfect for mobile photography enthusiasts who want professional-looking captures without breaking the bank. The HONOR 200 also pleasantly surprised me with its display and battery performance, making it a well-rounded phone. However, power users and gamers should look elsewhere. The OnePlus Nord 4, POCO F6, and Realme GT 6T are better suited for those needs. Meanwhile, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers more premium features such as wireless charging and an IP68 rating. After the launch of the HONOR 90 and HONOR X9B and the lukewarm reception they’ve received, HONOR Tech is bringing in the big guns to India. They have expanded their portfolio with two camera-centric devices, the HONOR 200 and HONOR 200 Pro.

Htech has launched the Honor 200 in India, priced at Rs 34,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and Rs 39,999 for the 12GB + 512GB model. Additionally, one needs to purchase a 100W charger separately for Rs 2,999. We have spent some time with the smartphone, and here are our first impressions of the Honor 200.

Wrapping things up, the HONOR 200 proves that you don’t need to break the bank to get a good smartphone. Priced at PHP 24,999, it doesn’t have too many downsides. My gripes with the device were mainly with its counterintuitive software. The phone has a ton of bloatware with MagicOS providing two of each app with one function. There’s also the matter of its missing IP rating. Personally, I felt like I could’ve looked past this if we weren’t under the rainy season right now. Aside from these issues, the HONOR 200 excels under design, display, cameras, performance, and battery. These are a ton of strengths for a midrange offering, no? If readers are looking for an all-around, solid, budget-friendly smartphone in 2024—the HONOR 200 needs to be on your list.

While HONOR can still improve the 200 when it comes to gaming and battery life, there’s no question about its camera performance. Armed with a complete set of cameras that can shoot in 4K, the HONOR 200 is one of your best options at the under Php 25k segment if cameras are your main priority.

The Honor 200 display showed an overall good performance, supported by its strong results in color rendering in all lighting conditions. The device’s readability was on par with the Pro version. However, the screen lacked some brightness when used outdoors, when compared with some of its other competitors. Our protocol measured the Honor 200’s peak brightness at 1,146 nits, using a method that is more indicative of how the device would behave in a real-life use case. Like its Pro counterpart, the Honor 200’s display was free of flicker. The device lacked some brightness when watching HDR10 video in indoor conditions, but when viewing HDR10 videos in low light, the good level of brightness allowed for good detail rendering. Our tests also showed that the device did not support video content made in the UHD 60 FPS format.

The Honor 200 Camera, which has nearly the same camera specs as the 200 Pro, offered good performance, both in photography and video. Like the Pro version, the Honor 200 is also marketed as “The Portrait Master.” In our tests, the device’s camera provided the best results when taking images, such as landscapes and portraits, in outdoor conditions or in well-lit indoor settings. Additionally, the device has a dedicated tele module, which provides a high-quality zoom when using the telephoto camera. The Honor 200’s video stabilization was effective, making the device well-suited to taking videos while moving.

There are a couple of areas in which the Honor 200 is outshone by the Google Pixel 8a: software experience and support, general performance and low-light photography are all better on the Pixel. If those things are most important to you, you’ll want to turn your attention to the Google Pixel 8a. That said, it’s not been a clean sweep for the Pixel as the Honor 200 has a couple of very interesting tricks up its sleeve. Its battery life is nothing short of phenomenal for the price, the display is sharp and wonderfully colour-accurate and the affordable telephoto camera (along with Studio Harcourt’s style) produce incredible portrait shots. I can’t say that it’s the best you can get for this price, but for portraits and battery life, the Honor 200 is unmatched.

As per my opening gambit: having switched from the Google Pixel 8a over to the Honor 200, this review process has been a rollercoaster ride of many good outcomes, peppered with some less-than-ideal software oddities. But if you can cope with those minor software irks and the curved screen – namely delayed notifications and sometimes tricky swipe interactions – then the Honor 200 is a genuine rival to Google's best budget phone. It's priced perfectly and it brings some features even king Google can't match too – namely that 2.5x optical zoom. With ample power to handle everything you care to throw its way, strong battery life, and versatile cameras capable of handling scenes day or night, the Honor 200 is an accomplished phone.

While it’s too early to offer a full verdict, it looks like Honor 200 could be a solid all-rounder that makes the right compromises to hit the £499 price point while still offering premium features like a high-res 50MP telephoto with Studio Harcourt-powered portrait photography, a 1.2K screen with a 4000nits peak brightness and a large 5200mAh silicon-carbon battery.
