The Honor 30 Pro+ is a great phone if we judge it by its performance, camera and specs. However, as Huawei is banned from using technology from US companies, this smartphone comes without access to the Google Play Store and relies on Huawei’s own solution, the App Gallery. The lack of Google services and Play Store is the only downside of this otherwise great phone -- and surely the reason why the Honor P30 Pro+ is practically unavailable in western markets.

The Honor 30 Pro+ was both better than I expected and worse than I hoped. I thought a lot more Android apps would have trouble working, and that I would be upset for not having a Play Store to look for new apps if needed, so having most of them work was actually pretty nice. At the same time, the apps that didn't work made me feel dreadful every time I wanted to use something and remembered it doesn't work.

It's unfortunate that Honor has once again released a phone, which you probably won't be able to get. The lack of Google Services puts it at a great disadvantage and the only way to offset that is to lower the price significantly. If it had Google Services, the Honor 30 Pro+ would have been a competitive smartphone worth your hard-earned money. But Huawei's AppGallery still has a long way to go and the majority of apps still rely on Google's Services and there's no easy way around it.

We go hands-on with Honor's latest flagship, the Honor 30 Pro+, with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The phone has no Google services, so it's based on AOSP.

The Honor 30 Pro+ shares a sizable chunk of imaging hardware and software with the Huawei P40 Pro, the current number one in our DXMARK Camera ranking, so the Honor’s excellent results across all Photo and Video attributes should not really come as a big surprise to anyone. The results are particularly close for Video, where the Honor performs at a very high level across the board, and differences between it and the P40 Pro are quite minor.

Starting from the end of 2019, more and more models equipped with high-brush screens, but most of them are flagship models, increasing the threshold for users to enjoy high-brush screens. The Honor 30 Lite will undoubtedly accelerate the popularity of the 90Hz high-brush screen. High refresh rate models like the Honor 30 Lite are worth a try.
