Honor has cemented itself as one of the world's best budget phone makers with the Honor 6X, but a few little problems still hold it back from the perfect five-star review.

At $249, the Huawei Honor 6X is $50 less than the Moto G5 Plus and $150 less than the Axon 7. For the extra $50, the G5 Plus gets you virtually stock Android and compatibility with every major carrier. If you can afford to spend more, the ZTE Axon 7 has a sharper display, a more powerful processor, better connectivity, and high-resolution audio. Both are Editors' Choice winners. For the price, however, the Honor 6X is a solid buy, especially if you're a fan of its unique camera abilities.

Sporting a mostly metal design, a fingerprint reader and nifty dual-rear cameras, the Honor 6X has features that you used to be able to find only on phones twice this price. It offers pretty decent performance and above-average battery life. Unless you're a real power user, the 6X feels just as snappy as phones costing hundreds more.

My overall experience with the Huawei Honor 6X could be described as surprising. I did not expect to enjoy using it as much as I did, especially after I got my app drawer back. There is a delightful mix of quality, budget-friendly hardware, software that is mindful of resource management and style that makes this $250 phone just delightful to use and comfortable to purchase.

Overall, the Honor 6X is a pretty good smartphone, offering access to Honor and Huawei’s mobile features like wide aperture mode and light painting and also supporting VR or 360 video. It is more than good enough for the normal Malaysian user who wants a piece of the action that Honor is offering with their upper midrange Honor 8 but don’t need the prettier design aspects or extra camera stabilization functions especially at its current price of RM1049 (RRP RM1199). Is it worth that price tag? Yes, especially if you're looking to explore bokeh shots, light painting and VR but don't have the budget for a more expensive phone or DSLR.

The Huawei Honor 6X has two things that the Galaxy S8 does not: dual rear cameras and a fast, accurate rear-mounted fingerprint reader that's actually easy to reach. (Samsung's Galaxy S8 has a single camera lens on the back and awkwardly puts its fingerprint reader to the left of the camera.)

If you can forgive the faults of the software, which might improve once the update to EMUI 5.0 and Android Nougat comes, the Honor 6X is a great value buy. On the hardware and camera performance alone this handset offers a lot of bang for your buck, positioning the 6X, even with its subpar Android skin, as one of the best budget smartphones on the market.

I personally felt like the Honor 6X was a vast improvement over the Honor 5X and that made it much more enjoyable to use. With a price point of $250 it hovers under some of the stronger mid-rangers such as the OnePlus 3T or Axon 7 but that’s good. If you are interested in a ton of features and not spending a ton of cash the Honor 6X is a nice phone to utilize.

For all its looks and features, the Honor 6X remains a budget Android handset. It can’t beat the performance of high-end smartphones, and that will be a deal breaker for some power users. However, for those who want a low price tag on an unlocked smartphone, the Honor 6X offers reasonable performance, an attractive design, a competent camera and great battery life. The Honor 6X is likely going to be at the top of many budget lists.

Honor could have phoned it in on the design and materials, kept it simple, and priced it in the same range or even lower than its previous model. In reality, it decided to up the ante on its “budget” line to increase the pressure on its competition and also improve the experience for its consumers. The device offers great construction, good performance, long battery life, a dual camera that can take good photos.

The Honor 6X, like the Honor 5X is not a bad phone. In fact, it's quite good. But it is brought down by some tough competition. Honor's new phone has an all-metal body, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 1080p screen, a very capable 8-core processor, plenty of storage (which is also expandable), a guaranteed update to Android Nougat, a dual-camera system on the rear, DTS audio support and a 3,340mAh battery powering the whole thing. And it starts at just Rs 12,999.

The Honor 6X carries on the same philosophy that the company introduced with the 5X: create a smartphone with a satisfying price-to-value ratio (also known as "bang for buck" ratio). The Honor 6X makes some compromises, perhaps not all that power users would appreciate, but EMUI should offer enough customization and control to satisfy these users.

With the 6X, Honor has once again proved that it has the ability to make superior camera phones. I have no doubts about Honor’s claims. But the company cannot sell a phone just on the basis of the camera alone. A display is equally important, so is the software.

The Honor 6X is yet another dependable option to consider, just like its predecessor. However, it doesn't really offer any standout feature that would make you want to rush out and buy it. Pricing starts at Rs. 12,999 for the version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which isn't bad considering the specifications on offer. However, the version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage costs Rs. 15,999 which feels like less of a bargain. We wish Honor had paid attention to finer details like Wi-Fi 802.11ac support, a USB Type-C connector, true dual-SIM functionality like the 5X, and perhaps a simpler look and feel to EMUI. The dual-camera setup feels gimmicky and unnecessary, and low-light performance could have been much better.

We think the Honor 6X is one of the best camera phones available in this segment, and at Rs 12,999 for the base 3 GB/ 32 GB model, offers a fair deal of camera muscle. The 4 GB/ 64 GB edition at Rs 15,999 might strike some as a trifle on the expensive side when you consider the Coolpad Cool 1 offers dual cameras at a lower price and of course there is now the looming shadow of the Lenovo Z2 Plus, whose Snapdragon 820 goodness comes in a 3 GB/ 32 GB edition comes for Rs 14,999 now. There’s also the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for those who prefer great battery life with decent performance.

The Honor 6X produces some really great shots in different conditions. It definitely takes nice pictures in sufficient light and takes some above average and average shots in low light conditions in terms of details. The camera seems snappy enough but takes a lot of time to process images. Although the company is betting heavily on the hardware when it comes to the camera, but we think it is the software which binds it all together. The software as a whole needs some finishing around the corner as we think the lagging in the Gallery app and the processing time should be reduced if not eliminated. That said, we think the Honor 6X definitely has an edge over other smartphones in this price segment in the camera department. We do not know the final price of the device but if it is in the vicinity of Rs 15,000 as is being rumored, then it definitely is the best camera in that section. Hands down. Its hardware stings like a bee, even though its software sometimes does not quite float like a butterfly…

Huawei’s Honor 6X is one of the best bets you can get at this price. The dual-camera set up at the back helps the phone stand out against others whereas the performance is not an issue as well. While the phone hits most of the pillars of a good budget smartphone, we still feel that there is room for improvement in aspects like UI and Audio output. Fortunately, the device will get a UI upgrade with Android Nougat soon and we can’t complain much for the audio at this price. As the final verdict, if you want a complete smartphone for a low price, Honor 6X can just be the right device for you right now.

The Honor 6X is a terrific little phone – I say ‘little’ despite the ‘phablet’-class 5.5” screen, because it’s still very manageable in the hand, thanks to the thin bezels. And ‘little’ because its ambitions don’t rise into flagship territory. Yet it somehow manages to do everything one would want a smartphone to do, with surprisingly little fuss, zero complaining, and it comes in at a third the price of a Galaxy S7 edge.

The 6X very much lives up to the expectations of an Honor phone: a surprisingly inexpensive but feature-packed handset with a couple of little extras thrown in, namely the dual camera and smart fingerprint sensor. Honor also told us that they’ll be having a ‘flash sale’ on January 10 that will have the phone priced at just $199. Sounds like you’ll want to wait a week to order one, but it is listed on Amazon already. Not a bad price for a Smartphone that is unlocked and ready to work on the major GSM networks. At $249, the Huawei Honor 6X sits between the less expensive Moto G4 and the pricier Axon 7. For $60 less, the G4 gets you virtually stock Android and compatibility with every major carrier. But the Honor 6X has a nicer build, faster performance, and cooler camera capabilities. If you can afford to spend more, an extra $150 can get you the Editors' Choice-winning ZTE Axon 7, which has a sharper display, a more powerful processor, better connectivity, and high-resolution audio. Buyers are at risk of believing a little too much in the Honor 6X’s amazing-sounding specs, but with a solid camera and good screen there are only two things to put you off. First, the EmotionUI software won’t be to all tastes, and the weak graphics chip means the phone struggles with some top-end Android games unless you lower the visual quality a bit.
