Reviews for the Honor 8X
The Honor 8X offers a large 6.5-inch display, extravagant looks as well as a good mid-range configuration. Find out how the new mid-range processor Kirin 710 can handle everyday tasks in our review.

The Honor 8X looks incredible, has a fantastic screen and offers the kind of user experience that you’d normally expect from a phone cost twice or maybe even three times as much. If you have a little more cash to spend then perhaps the Honor Play or even the OnePlus 6 would be better options, but for those shopping on a tight budget who want a phone that looks, feels and (most of the time) performs like a flagship device, this comes highly recommended.

Though it costs £229.99 in the UK, the Honor 8X looks, feels and performs like a high-end smartphone in most respects. It features a gorgeous 6.5in FHD+ bezel-less display and an eye-catching glass and aluminium design that makes it stand out amongst the competition. It also offers high-end features like facial recognition, alongside the rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and although performance can be a little spotty in the most demanding 3D games, we've experienced very little in the way of lag in general use. We think it's impressive, especially with such a competitive price tag.

If you're looking to buy one, do note that the Honor 8X is not yet officially available in the U.S. You can buy the international model on Amazon with the caveat that it doesn't come with a warranty, and that it doesn't support all of the common LTE networks you'll find in the country. Honor previously announced that the device will officially land in America, but we have yet to hear any concrete timeline.

The smartphone market is in a strange place right now. Flagships are getting more expensive yet aren't adding much more that consumers or businesses actually want in the way of features. Meanwhile the mid range is filling with phones that have pretty much all the features you will actually use on a day-to-day basis at good prices. It's not clear how this is going to play out, but right now the level of choice for buyers is great.

But if there should be one governing factor that would influence your decision to purchase Honor 8X, let it be its exceptional battery and its insane endurance. That, and the fact that this phone only costs RM949.

Which is not to say that it will not face a lot of heat in the market from not just well-placed veterans (now!) like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, both of which have done exceptionally well in the Indian market, but also from their successors, the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2. Add the likes of the Android One Powered Moto One Power, the Xiaomi Mi A2 with its terrific cameras, and the rather gorgeous Nokia 6.1 Plus to the mix, and you can see that the Honor 8X, for all its head-turning ability, does have a lot to contend with. Its design is certainly unparalleled, but it does not quite stand as alone when it comes to performance. But there definitely is a new beauty in cell town.

At a starting price of Rs. 14,999, the Honor 8X is defeinitely a good mid-range smartphone with a large display with minimal bezels, attractive design, good performance and good cameras with AI. It lacks fast charging and 4K video recording, which are the only downsides that you can sacrifice. The company also sells 6GB RAM with 64GB storage version at Rs. 16999 for those who need more RAM, and the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version at Rs. 18,999 will be available soon.

It's quite easy with the Honor 8X - if you are on the budget, you should check it out. The phone does reasonably well in pretty much everything and sometimes it can even go beyond your expectations. Some corners were cut to keep the price low, but they were cut wisely, and nobody would really miss something.

The Honor 8X finds itself surrounded by phones like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, Motorola One Power, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi A2. These phones offer an all-round experience making things hard for the Honor 8X. Hard but not difficult as the Honor 8X manages to stay strong in the design department and that 6.5-inch display is the biggest you'll find in the this segment.

So what do you think of the camera features on the honor 8X? Quite good, don't you think? Certainly better than some more expensive smartphones out there. Our favourite (and the one that surprised us the most) is the AI Sports Shot and the Super Night Shot. Which one did you like? By the way, in case you're wondering, the honor 8X cost RM949 and we've been told that a red edition will be on sale on 7 November 2018 as well.

The Honor 8X is a big-screen phone with an affordable price tag. It’s a good experience to watch videos on it, play games, but the phone itself is quite unwieldy. It’s glossy design and generous amounts of glass might did put me off, but it’s up to you, the buyer, to decide whether you want something that looks good but is quite delicate at the same time. The performance in general is quite commendable but the UI, like all Honor and Huawei phones aren’t the best, aesthetically speaking. As for the camera, it can take decent photos in daylight, but expecting a good low-light performance from it is a bit too much.

That said, I still think that the best version to buy is the cheaper option, the one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage that retails for Rs 14,990. It hits that value-for-money sweet spot on the head. The other variants push the price too far into Poco F1 territory, and at that price, there's no arguing against a Snapdragon 845 and the dramatically improved performance it promises.

Honor is making an attempt to penetrate the market with a good-looking and relatively affordable phablet that offers good value for money. Not only does this phone look good, it performs great for its price thanks to the new HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC. Other things that work for the Honor 8X include its looks, vibrant display, and fast biometric security features. However, the camera results are below average, the UI could have looked sharper, and faster charging would have been useful.

The Honor 8X comes loaded with its share of pluses and minuses. The phone’s design is pretty unique and makes it stand out of the crowd, while the large screen makes it interesting to watch any videos. The performance is satisfactory, while the user interface has some good features. Camera performance is a let down in this one and so is the inclusion of older micro USB port. Overall, if you are not a camera enthusiast and want a different-looking smartphone with good battery backup, then you can consider this smartphone.

See, I’ve been doing this for over 16 years now. I’ve seen smartphones evolve and the market seemingly only becoming big enough for two major players – Samsung and Apple. But does it have to be this way? Why are we going out and only buying the biggest brands with the biggest ad budgets? Does more money always equal the best phone?

Yes, it still has its shortcomings, like its sluggish graphics performance, weak speaker volume, and the camera’s soft images under low light. Some of them may be deal breakers for people, but we have to remember that the Honor 8X is a phone costs a small fraction of what a flagship phone commands. For basic use, the Honor 8X is perfectly capable of satisfying consumers on a budget.

The Honor 8X starts at 250 EUR, around $280 when directly converted. Even if it were to cost $300 in the US, which Honor has yet to announce, it is still pretty much unrivaled in that category. Great battery life, decent performance, serviceable cameras, and an eye-catching design, the Honor 8X has most of the things you need from a smartphone in a package that costs considerably less. It is no wonder, then why Honor makes up the bulk of Huawei’s smartphone shipments, helping the Chinese OEM climb up through the ranks.

The only minor comment I would make about the GUI is the fact that you have to have a Huawei ID if you want make use of features like HiCare, Health, the AppGallery (to be honest I’d uninstall this, it’s really not needed and you should probably just stick with Google Play) and Themes. It’s not all the fault of Huawei / Honor – after all, other manufacturers have their own ecosystems that they try and foist on us, but it’s a bit of a pain to have another login credential to remember.

So, I can say that Strava seems fine and the battery life is epic. I can also say that there’s a lot of very clever Honor / Huawei wizardry going on under the hood to maintain your experience. Oh, and just while I’m here – that “Force full screen” option that is normally offered when an app doesn’t quite fill this capacious 6.5″ 19.5:9 screen is tucked away in the Settings->Apps, so if you want to force a full screen experience you’ll need to go in there.

Honor 8X offers a unique and premium design for its price. The 6.5-inch sharp display is sure to attract users who like watching content on a big screen. The phone provides a good experience with day-to-day activities. However, it is not meant for gaming aficionados as a few graphically demanding games require adjusting with medium or lower quality settings to play it. The camera performance on the phone is decent; however, photography enthusiasts must avoid using the AI feature to get better results. Bottom line, if you are looking for a handset that comes with elegant design, sharp and vivid display, good battery backup and decent audio quality, Honor 8X can be an ideal pick. Considering the price, the new Honor smartphone will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Today I’ve been taking photos. I left the AI mode on for a lot of the images you’re about to see and, as it’s a dark and windy Autumnal day, there wasn’t a great deal of light to help. That AI system will magically take a look down the lens and will detect what you’re trying to take a photo of. Then it’ll twiddle around with the settings in the camera to make the shot as good as.

Pour moins de 300 euros, on peut s'offrir un smartphone élégant, performant, endurant, doté d'un bel écran et d'un appareil photo tout à fait convenable.
