Reviews for the Honor MagicBook Pro (AMD)
With the MagicBook Pro, Honor offers a well-equipped multimedia laptop with the latest Ryzen processor and a large 16.1-inch display. In our test, the device is almost completely convincing, and in many areas, it can also keep up with significantly more expensive competitors.

Looking at those performance results, you could be forgiven for wondering what all the other manufacturers are doing. The Honor MagicBook Pro performs so well and at such a reasonable price that it embarrasses laptops costing hundreds of pounds more. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't have any shortcomings. I’d like to have seen a higher resolution display with a taller aspect ratio, for instance, the keyboard and touchpad aren’t quite up to the standards of the best laptops on the market (although they're far from awful), and the webcam positioning isn't ideal. However, at £850, the Honor MagicBook Pro is simply bonkers good. It’s incredibly fast, surprisingly slim and light for a 16.1in machine, it looks smart and feels well made. If you need a powerful machine for use at home as well as on the road but don’t have big bucks to spend, this is the laptop you should be saving up for.

If you’re looking for a 16” laptop, you don’t really have too many options right now. As I mentioned earlier, you have the (much more expensive) MacBook Pro 16, or you can go for something that’s a little smaller (and also more expensive), like the Dell XPS 15.

The Honor MagicBook Pro is a unique laptop – but it won’t be for everyone. The combination of large display, productivity performance and strong battery life may mean it's the perfect machine for some. However, a better keyboard, improved portability, and better creative performance can be found elsewhere.

I am used to review samples coming with a US keyboard where only a few keys are differently placed but this arrived with a German keyboard and when you use a UK keyboard overlay on it a number of keys move the most obvious is that the Y and Z are transposed but harder to fathom is where other keys have gone the most vital on initial setup of this Notebook is the ‘@’ key as try entering an email address without it, once booted you can investigate further.

In any event, it’s not like the MagicBook Pro needs to rely on side gimmicks. A laptop like this - with its incredibly colour-accurate display, high-end performance and premium design - for a mere £708 is, just like the MagicBook 14 before, a deal that sounds too good to be true. Yet true it is, and even if there are some little niggles that stop it achieving outright perfection - that occasional buzzing comes to mind - there really isn’t anything on the market that beats it on sheer value.

This a great laptop for the person who needs a bit more than just the standard laptop but can't afford a full-on pro system. Fast powerful sleek and long-lasting all for under £900. It is a great Mid-tier laptop.

It’s by no means a beast when it comes to performance, but considering the price, specifications and performance on tap, I do think it is definitely worth a look. Priced at RM3599, it represents a pretty unique choice for those who want a larger-than-usual ultraportable machine that also offers more-than-usual performance under its hood. A good display, sufficient memory, great battery life and excellent build quality allows us to recommend it with our highest accolade, the Gold PokdeWard.

I think we should flip that question around first – you should not buy the HONOR MagicBook Pro if you’re going to run graphical-intensive applications on it – like After Effects, and Lightroom. The CPU can provide a lot of power, but the GPU is still lacking because of the minuscule amount of VRAM.

The MagicBook Pro is one of the cheapest 16in laptops around, with phenomenal CPU performance and a lightweight build to boot. It's a brilliant, laptop, but be warned: with no discrete GPU, no Thunderbolt, and limited display specs, this isn't quite creator-class.

That about sums up my unboxing and first impressions for the Honor MagicBook Pro. I am going to use this as much as I can as my daily driver for the next month to see how I can get on with it. I am particularly interested in how long I can stay away from the plug but remain productive.

The Honor MagicBook Pro has a lot going for it considering its €899.90 price tag. The performance of a Ryzen 5 4600H, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage are a pretty great deal for the price of this machine. Plus, the fact that you get all that in a fairly light package and with decent battery life is great, and it makes that price even more justified. I did expect a bit more performance from an H-series laptop compared to a U-series one, but clearly, AMD is still besting Intel's competing products in at least some areas, and there's not much to complain about.

The Honor MagicBook Pro does a lot right, especially when it comes to performance and design. The small compromises are very easy to overlook at this price. It’s an excellent allrounder. However, the laptop market is fiercely competitive. There are other great options out there that rival Honor’s €899/£999 price tag if you’re after something a little more specific.

The Honor MagicBook Pro is a great laptop that doubles as an exceptional mobile workstation thanks to an outstanding price-performance ratio. Shame about the placement of the webcam though.

In addition to that, the benchmarks of all the parameters came out to be quite fascinating. Further, Honor MagicLink 2.0 lets you connect supported Honor smartphones to your MagicBook Pro laptop and make for a seamless and efficient working environment. In the future, Honor might have plans to work on their webcam and speaker quality, however, nonetheless, the ones provided in the MagicBook Pro should suffice. For the price that it boasts, MagicBook Pro really gives value to its customers and truly harnesses the power of Ryzen 5 CPUs. Be it for every day usage or CPU intensive work, the benchmark results should be satisfying enough to prove to you that the MagicBook Pro packs quite a punch.
