Affordability is a key feature of the Honor Pad 8, and the tablet is available for just £229 in the UK and ₹21,999 in India. That's a good value when you consider the size of the screen and the build quality, and while it isn't the fastest in this category, it is well-suited for multimedia. So if you want a budget tablet mainly for streaming videos or browsing, you'll find a lot to like in the Honor Pad 8.

Android tablets aren't as common as they once were, and choices are limited. The Honor Pad 8 provides a big screen, great speakers and long battery life for an attractive price. As long as MicroSD card storage and fast charging are not required, it is definitely one to consider.

The Pad 8 is missing a microSD slot, which you'd find on the bulk of competitors, and that's possibly the largest omission on its spec sheet. The meh battery life and lack of cellular connectivity are easier to swallow on a device that's probably too big to leave the house often, while the chipset's lack of serious oomph doesn't hinder the tablet's use for less demanding applications. At the time of writing, the Honor Pad 8 retails for €350 or just under INR 20K for a 6GB/128GB version or £270 in the UK (albeit for the 4GB/128GB spec). Its price in India makes it competitive in that market, and its sheer size gives it an edge for the right audience. In Europe, it's a touch pricier than similar mid-range offerings, but it could potentially justify the small premium with the list immediately below.

In a word, yes! This is a fantastic tablet for its price, and it punches far above its weight class. The performance, speakers, and display are great, and the software is not too shabby. The only downside is the camera, but the majority of people won’t even use it. This makes it easy to give that aspect a pass. If you’re looking for a great device for both work and play, then I highly recommend that you pick up the Honor Pad 8.

The Honor Pad 8 is a good tablet for specific tasks, like streaming movies or TV or processing work documents. It’s not so good if you need more power though, as it struggles with gaming and its software doesn’t lend itself to quick multitasking.

The Honor Pad 8 is every bit as good as many other Android tablets that came before it, and with reliable battery life, a colour-accurate display and solid build, it does a lot right. However, its foibles are too great to ignore. The lack of HDR and microSD expansion are irksome, but the real deal-breaker here is the same thing that has plagued Android tablets since their inception: Android simply isn’t a patch on iPadOS, and it has a long way to go in order to catch up. Android devotees may be willing to overlook such things – after all, this certainly is a lot of tablet for the money – but for everyone else, there’s little reason not to buy an iPad instead.

This is a pretty good price all things considered as while it has subpar specifications in other departments, it packs upper mid-range specifications for what it’s made for — media consumption. It’s hard to really fault the Honor Pad 8 in any particular way because of its lower price tag, and it’s a lot more budget-friendly than the Honor 70 that launched alongside it. I thought that the Honor 70 was too highly-priced, but I think that the Honor Pad 8 is nearly in the flagship-killer territory with how good it is at what it does. To be clear, not everyone wants a tablet for more than watching movies and TV shows, and you normally have to spend a lot to get a really good screen. That’s because a high-resolution display will normally command higher specifications as well, especially if the user is gaming or doing other intensive tasks. If you want a tablet for working on the go, then skip this device. You won’t really be able to use it for that, and it won’t really get the job done. If however, you’re like a lot of people who just want to watch something good in the evening on the couch or in bed, then you can’t go wrong with this tablet. It’s cost-effective and looks good, and that’s all it really needs. You could spend a bit more to get an iPad, but why bother? The iPad (2021) for example is the closest, but it still costs €70 more with a smaller screen and a more outdated design. The bigger screen really matters here.

That would depend on what you want to use it for. Are you looking for a gaming tablet? Well, you'll find mobile games work just fine on the Pad 8, so if Call of Duty Mobile is your bag, then you'll get along with the Pad 8 just fine. If you're on a productivity drive, then the Pad 8 represents a fantastic option, especially considering its low price point. With its bigger screen, you'll be able to work away on this tablet, making it brilliant if you're traveling and need to do some work on the plane or train. In all, I think the Honor Pad 8 is a lovely slate, with a responsive screen, a sumptuous display, and a fantastic battery life that will see even the most hardcore workaholic through two days, and then some.

The Honor Tab 8 isn’t posing as an iPad rival, and it’s not a jack-of-all-trades tablet. It’s a big screen that’s great for streaming movies or reading ebooks, and the long-lasting battery and slender build make it perfect for these tasks. However, thanks to its weak processor and software that’s clearly not optimized for the tablet experience, it’s not a productivity or gaming powerhouse.

The Honor Pad 8 is a good tablet in all the key areas, and you’re likely to get hours and hours of entertainment if you choose to buy it. The screen, while not perfectly sharp nor offering OLED levels of contrast, is still large and colourful, with an ideal aspect ratio for watching widescreen content. As for audio, it’s got a good set of speakers when playing aloud but the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a significant miss. Performance standards are good for a tablet of this price, and I didn’t experience the kind of stuttering or lag that does afflict some similarly-priced tablets, while the battery was long-lasting and relatively fast-charging too. This is a great all-round tablet for the price, and would be a good buy as long as you’ve got a pair of Bluetooth headphones.

It wins on design and impresses for its sheer size, given the price, with a decent battery life showing to boot. If you want the biggest screen around for your cash, the Honor Pad 8 fits the bill. Sadly it falls down in some areas. The cameras really are nothing to write home about, and while performance is decent enough once you’re in an app, the homescreen experience is rather chuggy. That said, there’s still plenty to like, so we’re inclined to forgive its lack of photographic prowess: few similarly-priced rivals can claim to be much better, after all.
