Reviews for the Honor Play
The first gaming smartphone from Huawei is coming to the western hemisphere: While the Honor Play does not particularly look like a gaming device, it is supposed to impress gamers with its low price. We will take a look at whether this is an advantage or disadvantage and whether the phone offers sufficient power for current games.

The Honor Play joins the rest of the Huawei and Honor family in running EMUI, the company’s Android skin, which skews a little bit closer to iOS than stock Android in some of its design choices, including defaulting to a grid of home screen icons (though the classic Android app drawer is still an option).

I have been very pleased with the Honor Play it is a great value device and will punch well above its weight particularly when gaming is the task at hand. My only real major complaint was that the screen is not good in direct sunlight and is un-usable when wearing glass with polarisation. This is not really a massive problem and is the case for most phones at this and in some case much higher price points.

The Honor Play appears well-designed. It offers a nice look and feel and is enough for mobile gaming. It may not beat the Razer Phone 2 or the ASUS ROG Phone but the Huawei Mate 20’s display offers cool and brighter images.

This phone comes with either 4 or 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. You can potentially (if you’re lucky) find it in several different colors. If you’re able to find one, you could find one in Midnight Black, Navy Blue, Violet, Player Edition Red, or Player Edition Black. The version we’ve reviewed here is Player Edition Black.

Whatever your preferences, the thing is: at below $400, the Honor Play has nearly no competition as a phone that can drive demanding games on a good 6.3” display. That is a great product positioning.

The Play delivers on its promise - it provides an excellent gaming performance with a twist on the cheap. And if those two factors are leading for you, the Honor Play should be on your shortlist of devices you must check before getting your next phone.

With word of its aggressively low price tag and high performance, the Honor Play has the ability to appeal not only to gamers but anyone looking to pick up a handset that doles out a flagship-class experience across so many areas, without breaking the bank.

At £279, it's very easy to recommend the Honor Play. The display is no match for the likes of the Razer Phone or Asus ROG, but the Play offers top notch performance at a far lower price than either of those, which might make it the ideal phone for gamers on a budget.

There isn't much that makes the Honor Play excel as a gaming phone apart from its powerful internals, but with a huge screen and a premium look it makes for an all-round impressive device. That's especially true when you consider the price.

In conclusion, the smartphone was able to prove that it has other good features other than gaming. Moreover, the fact that it sports the Kirin 970 chipset yet costs PHP 15,990, makes the smartphone a great choice for mobile gamers. The Honor Play is truly a quality gaming phone at a very affordable price.

Honor Play is an excellent smartphone that comes very close to matching a premium, flagship smartphone. Of course, it’s not perfect and has the not-so-fluid software. I still feel that Honor has done a great job in cramming a lot of features to make the Honor Play a desirable package.

The Honor Play is a gaming handset with an understated design that the average user will appreciate for its performance, battery life, and a quality display. And gamers? Well, its target audience will enjoy the battery life, the display’s vibrancy, and the gimmicky 4D Smart Shock, and 3D Surround Sound features will certainly add something to the gameplaying experience. If Huawei can get more game developers on board with its GPU Turbo technology, phones such as the Honor Play can only benefit.

Of course, there’s more to a smartphone than just its spec sheet. This phone performs as good as any flagship phone out there and looks quite brilliant as well. However, the camera could’ve definitely been better.

Summing it all up, the Honor Play is a controversial device: on the surface and on paper, it’s a beast with the company’s fastest chip and a killer price, but in reality things like the disappointing screen quality, the outdated interface looks, as well as the quiet loudspeaker and the bad video recording quality really ruin what could have been a great device.

Honestly, we’d rather change that phrase to “why should you not buy it?” and we can’t think of a solid reason. While some would nitpick by saying that it has ordinary cameras and a rather boring aluminum unibody, Honor is aware that the main market of the Honor Play is those that are looking for pure performance without spending a fortune.

The Honor Play is that kind of smartphone that punches like a heavyweight but fights in the middleweight class. It’s got a nice display, flagship-grade Kirin 970 with GPU Turbo, large RAM and storage, decent cameras, and above average battery capacity. There are some issues like its thermals but we believe it’s something that can be fixed with a software update.

Honor Play does come loaded with a robust design and display looks impressive as well. The performance and AI in the camera have shown improvement though it sometimes oversaturates some pictures. Overall, considering this price point, the Honor Play surely seems to be an exciting smartphone to consider but it needs to be optimised for the high graphics intensive games, not just the PUBG.

Honor made a surprise move for the Honor Play yesterday. For a phone that sports a flagship Kirin 970 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage, they have decided to price it for an insanely low price of Php 15,990. Such pricepoint will give the rest of the mid-range segment a run for their money.

Honor Play brings a lot to the table. With a good camera, vivid and bright display, reliable performance, above average battery life all at a starting price of Rs 19,999. The only thing we missed a bit is some freshness on design front. Overall, Honor Play is one of the best performers in this price segment.

Honor’s new gaming smartphone Honor Play has finally arrived in India at an unbelievable price of Rs 19,999. ASUS and Xiaomi entered the gaming smartphone market with their ASUS ROG Phone and Xiaomi Black Shark and now we have Honor’s gaming beast focusing on gaming features, the Honor Play is truly made for mobile gamers. Powered by HUAWEI’s flagship chip Kirin 970 octa-core SoC and paired with 6 GB of RAM, this is probably the best budget gaming phone ever launched in India.

Before I conclude, here is some key information: The Honor Play's big feature, which is GPU Turbo, isn't exclusive to it. Honor will roll it out to existing phones like the Honor 10, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X via a software update. And do understand that the Honor Play is essentially a toned down Honor View 10.

The Honor Play brings the company’s flagship hardware to an even lower price point, making it the most powerful device under Rs 25,000. Add to it the GPU Turbo feature which reduces battery drain and you get a very lucrative device for gamers and those who like consuming a lot of visual content on their phones. While there’s a lot that impresses, the camera, leaves one wanting more.
