Mid-range P20 The Huawei P20 Lite is overshadowed by its big brothers and its competition is also well positioned at this price-performance ratio. Our review shows that buyers of this mid-range smartphone receive a good device regardless.

Huawei’s P20 Lite is a good mid range smartphone. We like how lightweight and elegant it is, and has a very similar premium design to its more expensive P20 siblings. Plus, thanks to its facial recognition feature you can unlock the phone in an instant, another example of a high end feature making its way into the mid-range.

The Huawei P20 Lite supplies a little iPhone X design magic at a third of the price, but with limited notch compatibility and sub-par performance it somehow manages to feel a little expensive.

The P20 Lite is trying, a little hard perhaps, to ride on the hype train of the P20 Pro. The P20 Pro is a fantastic phone, and even though some would say that it's expensive, it has every ingredient in the book to make rival flagship phones nervous. With the P20 Lite, Huawei is trying, to offer a more or less similar experience at a fraction of a cost. And it has the specs, at least on paper, to make potential buyers excited. And at least consider this phone, among a plethora of better phones.

At a price tag of Rs. 19,999, the Huawei P20 Lite is just an average smartphone with a good display, attractive design and a worthy selfie camera, otherwise there is nothing unique about the device since this uses the same under-powered Kirin 659 SoC when we get smartphones with better SoCs at even less price. It also lacks fast charging which is disappointing. Hope Huawei will reduce the price of the smartphone in coming months to compete with other players since the mid-range smartphone war is heating up.

For Rs 19,990, the Huawei P20 Lite is a smartphone that will generate curiosity but might not impress the lot. This is partly down to its looks and display as the camera doesn’t really get you excited. There aren’t faults with its performance but somehow the smartphone falls short of being the ‘real deal’. A part of it is also down to the fact that there are slightly lower-priced handsets that have similar – or better – features. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is a good example of being a lesser-priced phone which could match the P20 Lite. With Motorola about to enter the segment with its new G series of smartphones, the battle on Huawei’s hands is about to get uphill. The P20 Lite is a smartphone that we do recommend but do check out competition as well as you might just find a better deal.

The Huawei P20 Lite is riding the P20 hype wave, that's for sure. The screen with minimal bezels is probably enough to win lots of fans on its side as Huawei is among the few makers to offer such a high-quality piece in this segment. And if you fancy that, the P20 Lite is probably the smart choice.

The Huawei P20 Lite is a compact and good-looking smartphone with a crisp and vibrant display, Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and decent cameras. That said, its battery life is underwhelming at best, EMUI is still cluttered, and performance is below average.

The Huawei P20 Lite is priced Rs 19,999 and comes in both blue and back colors. P20 Lite is a good phone if looks are your primary criteria along with camera and selfie experience. The software is quite good with Oreo and EMUI, but where the device falls short is gaming experience and weaker GPU along with lack of fast charging and display protection at this price segment.

The Huawei P20 Lite is a sign of good things to come from Huawei. The company ignored the Indian market for the past few years, but returned with a bang with its two camera-centric offerings. It’s a phone meant for taking good photos, but when it comes to performance, it lags behind almost everyone in the mid-range segment.

It has a good, high-resolution display which is perfect for watching movies and viewing photos. If you like taking photos, the dual rear cameras and selfie camera are up to the task.

All in all this phone is a good choice for those who want a not-so-expensive but good quality smartphone. Although they may have been flaws but still comparing this to other mid-range phones with almost the same price, this might be a better choice. Huawei P20 Lite is a bargain to those who want the P20 and P20 Pro but can’t afford one. It is not yet confirmed but it might arrive at a retail price of 15,990. Is it reasonable or not? The Huawei P20 Pro’s main camera being one of the best in the business may have contributed to the high expectations for its front-facing camera. The front camera’s specs are enticing, with a high-resolution sensor and fast-aperture lens, and its test performance was solid. So the P20 Pro’s front camera certainly has some strengths; but this said, it doesn’t really have the standout performance of its rear-facing camera.

In the P20 Pro Huawei has delivered a stunning phone which should be on your shortlist along with the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X. Sure, there are some niggles such as the lack of stabilisation for 4K video, no headphone jack and no wireless charging, but if your priority is photography then the P20 Pro does not disappoint.

Huawei has arguably produced the best phone of 2018 in the P20 Pro. It looks great, lasts an age per charge, the camera is a top-ranking effort, and there's all the performance you could need. Thankfully it rights the wrongs of the P10, leaving little criticism to be made.

The Huawei P20 Pro is a solid smartphone that’s bound to impress both amateur and seasoned photographers alike. Thanks to its high-end specifications, stunning design and best-in-class tri-camera setup there’s a lot to like about Huawei’s latest flagship endeavour. Its launch price of £799 is undoubtedly less appealing, however, the Huawei name still doesn’t carry the same weight as Apple or Samsung in markets including the UK, so expect to see it available for less, soon if not already.

While the Huawei P20 Pro lives at the top of my 10 best smartphones ranking (as of 6 August 2018), there are some devices coming soon that will challenge it for this top spot. If you just look at the camera experience though, it may take a Huawei successor to knock it off that pedestal.

The Huawei P20 Series is a leap forward from an Industrial Design point of view, and the P20 Pro is an excellent representative of the new family. The new design is elegant, but packs an impressive battery capacity at the same time. The thinness comes at the expense of an internal wireless charging system, but we can overlook this because it charges so fast over USB-C.

As a camera-centric smartphone, the Huawei P20 Pro definitely passes the mark with flying colours. Great camera features, beautiful back cover design (Twilight and Blue), good battery longevity and an independent NPU which can improve the phone in the long term. We probably won't use it for gaming that much, but it's still playable nonetheless. It's hard to imagine how Huawei will outdo themselves in this one though, as the P20 Pro is quite a camera-centric smartphone monster.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro are hard to judge in terms of overall devices. Compared to last year’s P10 series, we see upgrades across the board in terms of design, performance, battery and camera. But what matters is the comparison to the competing devices as well, and there things are a little less evident.

The biggest challenge the P20 Pro in fact faces is the relative lack of brand equity that Huawei has in the premium segment of the Indian smartphone market. While its sub-brand Honor has a following (it is among the top five brands in the Indian smartphone market), its success has been built on value for money mid-segment devices rather than high-end premium ones. Indeed, there are already people pointing out that the P20 Pro costs more than the Honor View 10 and Honor 10 taken together, even though those devices sport similar processors and displays that are of largely similar resolutions.

I get the ‘AI this, and AI that’ is all about marketing the device’s photography potential, but it won’t do everything. You still need to know what to focus on, and there will be times where the AI gets in the way. The best part is that this is one of those cameras that rewards more experience with better results. Even as someone with a fair amount of reservations about the core software experience here, that awe-inspiring camera counts for a lot. Is this smartphone really a handy DSLR camera? Yes. This flagship produces quality photos and sometimes much better output than DSLR cameras because of its AI capabilities. Taking low-lit photos works like a charm as well and there’s no need to bring a tripod if you’re going on a street photowalk. Aside from its great cameras, it also offers great performance and battery life. Huawei has definitely stepped up in their flagship smartphones.

Huawei P20 Pro is an awesome device with great features and specs. It has a triple camera lens that collectively makes up to a 68MP lens that is super strong. The device is very expensive and its price is near to iPhone X but it is tough for people to spend that much money on Huawei’s device. It could be much better if it costs around 70k plus it doesn’t have audio jack port.

It’s pretty clear that the main focus for Huawei with the P20 Pro is the camera. It’s not as if in the process the company ‘forgot’ to look at other aspects but it could’ve certainly done a better job. For starters, the notch seems totally forced and is a hindrance more than anything else. The display which otherwise works fine doesn’t score high with us. The processor delivers performance that will please most smartphone users but do we expect a smartphone that costs upwards of Rs 60,000 to heat up? It’s something that we have almost never encountered with a flagship device.

Five years ago, in 2013, the Nokia Lumia 1020 was introduced with a 41MP camera. And the latest Huawei P20 Pro is the first smartphone after the Nokia Lumia 1020 to have such a high-resolution camera. In between, a number of camera-centric smartphones that claimed to offer a DSLR-level picture quality were launched, but most couldn’t deliver. So at the top of this review, I asked if this is the phone that is the best camera phone? Well in answer to that question, we have to look at both the camera and the phone. The camera is the most obvious bit of the puzzle, and while it is more than serviceable as a daily shooter, it has its areas of weakness. I am personally a fan of the colour saturation that is added from the scene modes, but I know that there will be some out there who aren’t. The good thing is that these can be turned off. The chance is though, if you are that much of a camera specialist that you are turning these functions off, then you will be able to detect the other foibles within the camera. For instance, at high zoom levels it will lose some crispness on the edges of the images.

It may not be as pretty as the Samsung Galaxy S9 , but the Huawei P20 Pro is at least its match. I found I liked it more. That’s for two reasons, first it feels better in my hand. This is a subjective measure. Less subject is the camera. Not only does it outperform the Galaxy S9 camera, but it is easier to get good results. Battery life is good too.

To conclude, the Huawei P20 Pro features some of the best cameras we have seen in a while on a smartphone. The AI integration is a real support to get some exceptional performance in the camera department. The phone is a real looker to flaunt. The display surely looks promising and battery performance is decent. However, the notch is a needless me too, and the user interface could be zippier. The absence of wireless charging is one bragging feature less, and so is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. But still, if you are a camera buff and want a good looking smartphone that takes some fantastic camera shots, then this will serve you well. Otherwise, the Samsung S9 series and the Apple toys will always beckon you too.

I suspect part of the P20 Pro’s allure is the fact that, in the US at least, Huawei is keeping it out of reach. Here on American shores, the company is focusing on the Mate 10 Pro, and has no current plans to offer this triple-camera marvel. That means you either stare enviously from the sidelines, or cough up the roughly $1k being asked for an unofficial import.

Now you can't take things easy when you have phones like the Samsung Galaxy S9+, the iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2 up against you. The latest operating system with some neat value additions on the EMUI 8.1 skin also help. It certainly seems to be set to break the Apple and Samsung duopoly, which the Google has tried to with its Pixel phones, but they’re more loved for their camera performance only. Huawei could not have asked for a better smartphone to relaunch with, in India. The goodwill it has garnered through its Honor sub-brand should surely help. The problem with the Huawei P20 Pro is that we don't have the phone's Canadian price tag yet. If the 899€ cost is equivalent to what the phone will be priced in Canada, which amounts to about $1400 CAD, I'd call the P20 Pro overpriced. It's hard to say whether the P20 Pro is overpriced, but there are more reasonably priced, almost as good handsets out there. The Huawei P20 Pro is a solid smartphone that’s bound to impress both amateur and seasoned photographers alike, and everyone in between, thanks to its high-end specifications, stunning design and best-in-class tri-camera setup. Although its £799 price tag could be enough to put a fair few people off.

The Huawei P20 Pro is Huawei’s most important smartphone yet. It is the phone that pulls it ahead of the competition, and that’s a big deal. Huawei hasn’t been in this position before, and it’ll be interesting to see if it can sustain this momentum – especially with the next Mate smartphones.

Instead of gimmicks and gaudiness, the Huawei P20 Pro delivers refinement and efficiency. That’s a major change for Huawei, which could previously be relied upon to be the fastest iPhone copycat in the East. With Huawei’s rapid improvement, Apple and Samsung now have a credible third competitor in the contest for super flagship phone supremacy. It’s time for the entire world to sit up and take notice, because Huawei is now the maker of 2018’s best phone and one of the best phones overall.

Paying this much for a Huawei phone may seem a tough sell. But great battery life, top specs and the most compelling use of computational photography seen in a phone yet make the Huawei P20 Pro one of the most interesting phones available.

Huawei's product output has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs over the last couple of years. But those software lows in the P8 and screen issues in the P10 have been used as educational stepping stones. Sure, some may still struggle to get over the "Huawei" brand name and how to say it aloud, but if you're seeking a genuine flagship then you're looking right at one.

We are already hard at work putting the Huawei P20 Pro through our typical review procedure. This includes thorough camera tests, with our usual samples and controlled-environment poster shots. Any further, in-depth judgement on quality and overall camera performance will just have to wait until then. You can also look forward to some interesting camera shoot-outs, involving Huawei's new flagship in the future.

Huawei’s on the verge of a coup with the P20 Pro. While the triple camera may seem a gimmick at first, Huawei’s AI smarts plus clever integration of the three shooters make the phone one of the best around if you’re really serious about mobile photography. Huawei has held nothing back in the camera department when they made the P20 Pro, leveraging heavily on their AI tech. One look at the images produced by the phone tells you that the P20 Pro is simply the best smartphone for capturing images, especially in low light.

The P20 Pro is an attractive handset with premium build quality, speedy guts, and improved (although, still not perfect) software. But its unoriginal design might people off.

Huawei has broken the tradition of an annual single-number increase for its P series phones, skipping ahead to the P20 as the follow-up to last year's P10. But you know what, Huawei has every right to, because the P20 is a huge leap forward for the Chinese brand.

I've written at length about Huawei's new P20 Pro smartphone (you can read my hands-on here) and its Leica-designed triple camera setup, but after spending some more time with the device, I want to highlight two camera features that have really impressed me: hybrid and digital zoom and handheld long exposure mode or "Night Mode".

Huawei has been so smug and bullish about the P20 that you could be forgiven for thinking it would be a disappointment at some level. But it just isn't. It's got everything we loved about the Mate 10 Pro, combined with a simply mind blowing, game changing camera.

Ultimately, it all boils down to this: Huawei never did much business in the US, and so losing out on the market opportunity is costly but not a total disaster; the US, on the other hand, has landed in an uncomfortable duopoly situation that strangles consumer choice. The US phone market needs a respectable third player more than Huawei needs the US market.

It’s a shame then that the smaller P20 lacks some of the features seen in the Pro model. It should be obvious to all that it’s the larger P20 Pro that’s the real P-series flagship for 2018.

Despite being thinner than the S9 Plus, the P20 Pro also has a massive 4000mAh battery. That, combined with the low power draw of the full HD OLED display and the supposed AI smarts that keep power consumption low, then you can see how far that 4000mAh battery will last you.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro are definitely the Chinese company’s most exciting phones yet – especially when it comes to their camera prowess. Set to be launched in Malaysia as early as next week on 3 April, I’m really curious to see just how much Huawei Malaysia will price these two phones. If priced right (especially the P20 Pro), the P20 phones may be the flagship smartphones to beat in 2018.

This year again, Huawei has surprised us in many ways. The Huawei P20 Series is a leap forward from an Industrial Design point of view, and the P20 Pro is an excellent representative of the new family. The new design is light and elegant, but at the same time, packs an impressive battery capacity. The thinness comes at the expense of an internal wireless charging system, but there is a market for this.

As this is being written, Huawei is set to launch the P20 and P20 Pro in an hour or two. Traditionally the company keeps the pricing information close to its chest until the major presentation. We will update when the information is released, however we expect it to be within short distance of pricing in previous years to keep the brand positioning.

Insider tip? The Huawei P20 is 250 Euros cheaper than its sibling Huawei P20 Pro, but its Leica dual-camera is basically on par and the hardware is just as powerful. How does the 5.8-inch device compete with other high-end rivals?

The follow-up to the P10 has plenty of high points, not least the camera and hardware, but the Huawei P20 doesn’t quite have enough to compete with 2018’s best flagships. It seems the much better P20 Pro is doing that instead.

Checking out Vodafone’s best selling plan for the Huawei P20 reveal that the smartphone was available for £36 per month following an initial £10 upfront payment. For this you get 4GB of Data plus unlimited minutes and text. Also included is Vodafone Global Roaming and three months free trial of Internet security software, namely Vodafone Secure Net. This latter feature will then be available for £1 per month. The Huawei P20 is well worth considering.

After these first few days, using the Huawei P20 has shown me that it is an excellent phone. Naturally, Huawei focused more on the Pro version, but this standard version can beneficially support many consumers. I can already tell I will be enjoying this phone, especially after I can spend a whole day personalizing it without having work interrupt me. Our full review will be available in a couple of weeks, and other articles may arrive soon as well. See you soon.

Being a bit of a camera phone geek, I went into this review often comparing the P20 to the more expensive P20 version. That wasn’t really fair, so I took a step back and looked at this as its own device with own specs and wanted to forget the Pro version all together.

If you have a deep interest in photography, the tri-camera-packing Huawei P20 Pro is the smartphone for you. But, if like most customers, you’re after a handset that offers fantastic build quality and high-end performance for a price that compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and iPhone X won’t break the bank, then look no further than the Huawei P20. It certainly won’t disappoint.

While the Huawei P20 can't beat its bigger brother, it has much to offer. The camera hardware performs very well, while the improved Huawei software manages to take these images from average to outstanding. It is a great camera phone at its price, unless you are a pixel peeper who really needs the best.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro are hard to judge in terms of overall devices. Compared to last year’s P10 series, we see upgrades across the board in terms of design, performance, battery and camera. But what matters is the comparison to the competing devices as well, and there things are a little less evident.

If you like taking photos but don’t need the water resistance or triple rear cameras of the Huawei P20 Pro, then the Huawei P20 is an excellent cameraphone by itself. In fact, it feels like how the 1st Kirin 970 smartphone should have been due to its sleek, compact and more easy to hold design, stunning looks and great performance. The AI-assisted still shots and other AI features make the P20 worth a lot more than the parts themselves and practically everything (gaming, design, battery, calls, connectivity, etc.) works superbly.

So as much as the P20 is a phone with an admirable screen, camera and all-round performance, it doesn’t distinguish itself enough to go toe-to-toe with them. Hence it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than the iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S9 and company when bought on contract. If you’d prefer the spare cash in your pocket to a more innovative phone, then the Huawei P20 is well worth your consideration.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is a long lasting solid smartphone and the P20 brings all of those experiences in a slightly smaller form factor. However, the Mate 10 Pro has that excellent rear fingerprint sensor and a larger battery so it may be a better choice for the enterprise. In either case, you can pick up an excellent competitor to Samsung for $650 to 750.

The Huawei P20 comes from a well-established flagship breed, which has never disappointed us. That said, as much as I want to hate Huawei for how it feels like they abandoned the P20, I can’t. Throughout my time with the P20, it was really hard for me to fault the handset because Huawei gave the P20 something the company’s bigger rivals simply can’t compete with.
