Unlike some laptop makers, Lenovo hasn't loaded the Ideapad with a bunch of trialware and come-ons to help subsidize the price. Granted, you don't get much—really any—preloaded third-party software to speak of, save for the ubiquitous McAfee and Microsoft Office trials. But we would rather have a clean machine than one loaded with what the marketing department could wrangle anyway.

If you’re looking for a low-cost Windows laptop, the Lenovo Ideapad 100 isn’t a bad buy. This Windows notebook offers dependable performance on a budget, a vibrant glossy display and a keyboard that is both comfortable and reliable. There’s a lot to like about this machine at this price. On the other hand, users willing to spend a bit more on a new Windows notebook are all but guaranteed to see significant performance gains by opting for a device with an Intel Core i3 or better processor. The bottom line is simple: the Ideapad 100 is a budget laptop that delivers good value … but you get what you pay for.

If you’re looking for an entry level PC that’ll run Windows 10, the Lenovo IdeaPad 100 is just fine. If you’re looking for a PC to gift someone who only sparingly needs PC access, the IdeaPad 100 is a good choice too. The only thing the IdeaPad 100 isn’t great for is frequently mobile users. Another 1 hour of battery life is crucial for anyone who spends large amounts of time from their desk.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100 is a great bargain, provided you get it for a bargain price. Like, a really bargain price. Lenovo set out to compete with Chromebooks with this laptop, and that's exactly the kind of performance you can expect—so make sure you get it at a Chromebook-style cost. I'd say between $250-300 and not a penny more. Otherwise you're better off looking at some other options, either higher end (like the Toshiba C55-C) or lower (like the Lenovo S21e or Acer Aspire Switch 10 E).

The Lenovo Ideapad 100 delivers dependable Windows performance for less than $400. Its 14-inch display is colorful enough for enjoying a few shows on Netflix, and its Celeron processor has the guts to get you through basic work tasks. Unfortunately, the laptop's 4.5-hour battery life and occasionally hot underside will remind you that this is a budget machine.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100 is a budget laptop designed for students and others who need a basic laptop for basic needs. It is very obviously made of plastic and the battery life is nothing to write home about. It won't, however, break the bank and there's nothing in particular to dislike about it. If you're looking for an inexpensive notebook to type up research papers and watch cat videos, you won't go wrong with this new IdeaPad.

Superfluous. Despite a frugal CPU, Lenovo's 15.6-inch notebook only manages poor battery runtimes. With a price tag of around 400 Euros (~ $446), it cannot really be called a bargain either.

However, we are mostly pleased with the design and construction of the notebook. It appears to be sturdy and solid with few design flaws, but one should be considered seriously and we are referring to the motherboard placement. Since the notebook uses a fanless design, because the CPU architecture allows, and a bit more heat is produced after prolonged usage resulting in overheating where palms rest and where the touchpad is located. It can be unpleasant. Finally, the battery life was a bit of a letdown especially considering the low-voltage CPU and energy-efficient HD TN panel. A larger battery capacity wouldn’t have hurt the budget, though.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-14IBY doesn't stand out in any one area, but it doesn't have glaring weaknesses for the price either. A better display would be a nice upgrade—the Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series Non-Touch offers a larger screen with a higher resolution. The physical design is solid and lightweight, with no obvious flaws, but performance is only decent at best. The smaller size may be appealing if you're going to frequently take this system with you, but you might be better off investing in an ultraportable laptop designed for the road.
