And speaking of battery life, it's pretty so-so. On our streaming video tests it makes it to about 8.2 hours, but that's really the outside you can expect to see. I like the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i a lot, which makes the color accuracy issues more disappointing than they might otherwise be. But if you're willing to do your own calibration and don't care about the contraction of the P3 color space when you do, then it's quite a nice option.

Lenovo's 14.5-inch Slim Pro 9i is a well-rounded, creative-focused laptop. Its spectacularly bright mini LED screen is an ace in the hole that no laptop in this size tier can match, and its metal design, full and loud speakers, and tactile keyboard also earn points. The Lenovo's raw performance may trail that of the MSI Stealth 14 Studio, but its superior display and longer battery life make it a more compelling pick overall, and our new Editors' Choice award winner for small creative-class laptops.

This Lenovo Slim Pro 9i is an excellent portable laptop for mixed use. Besides maybe the battery life, there’s little to not love about it. It’s powerful, when considering how portable it is. And the overall design is just solid. On top of that, the screen is particularly incredible, for what it is. And when you pair it with a good performing keyboard and trackpad, and excellent speakers, this Slim Pro 9i can trully can compete with the best of the best in its class.

The Lenovo Slim Pro 9i is an impressive laptop with a brilliant Mini-LED display, a powerful 100-watt version of Nvidia RTX 4050 graphics, and excellent connectivity. Intel’s Core i7-13705H lets the laptop down, as it fails to deliver a significant improvement over the less expensive Lenovo Slim Pro 7. That wound is worsened by the Slim Pro 9i’s MSRP, which is higher than alternatives with superior CPU performance. Still, the Slim Pro 9i is an easy recommendation for those who care more about GPU than CPU performance. It’s also a fantastic choice if you frequently view HDR movies and games on your laptop.

For Windows users looking for their unicorn MacBook equivalent, the Slim Pro 9i comes about as close as there is when factoring in build quality, design, portability, connectivity, and overall performance. Yes, the fans are a bit loud when pushing the device and it can get warm on a lap when doing anything other than simple data processing or web browsing, but for most tasks such as creating PowerPoint decks, triaging email, download and reading PDFs, watching Netflix or other streaming services, and using Edge or Chrome, the device should remain relatively quiet and cool. Slipping the Slim Pro 9i in a bag never gave me pause as to what I could and couldn’t do with the laptop. I knew, on a full or mostly full charge I could get through my day whether it be creating marketing pitches, campaign graphics and videos or hours of research.

Who is the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i for? On-the-go content creators and professional artists who are sick and tired of dim displays. Thanks to the mini-LED display, this Slim Pro 9i climbs over 700 nits of brightness where other laptops are stuck between the 300 and 400 range. The screen is also colorful and total eye candy for all your entertainment needs. And no, 7-hour battery life isn’t very attractive (the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra delivers 9 hours despite its power-guzzling internals), but the Slim Pro 9i has a clicky, comfortable keyboard and a divine sounding, quad-speaker system that sends chills down your spine. It also has ultra-fast video transcoding and high-performing graphics, beating the mighty Dell XPS 15. Congratulations, Lenovo. The Slim Pro 9i has earned a spot on our best laptops page.

It’s disappointing when an otherwise great laptop makes one misstep that pulls it away from greatness. Don’t get me wrong, the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i is wonderful, boasting excellent productivity scores thanks to its 13th Gen i9 power, stunning brightness and vibrancy in its 3K Mini LED display, and surprisingly good gaming performance considering its RTX 4050 GPU. But it’s hard to feel enthusiastic when this incredible piece of hardware is hindered by as little as six hours of battery life. While that’s not terrible coming from a gaming laptop, the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i isn’t one. Yes, it can handle gaming decently, but its focus on productivity makes it a mainstream laptop first and foremost, so I can’t imagine many will walk away happy with its weak battery. And even if you wanted to use it primarily as a gaming laptop, we would recommend something more powerful like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro.

The Slim Pro 9i 14 is a lovely laptop that’s very well-built, and it offers excellent performance for a 14-inch machine. It has a good keyboard and touchpad and nice privacy and security features. That’s all for the good. However, its mini-LED display doesn’t hold a candle to the MacBook Pro 14’s, and neither does its battery life. You can save some money by choosing the Lenovo, but not enough to recommend that choice.
