The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon remains an excellent choice for a powerful and portable business laptop. It's got the expected combination of top build quality combined with excellent performance and decent features. There's little to dislike but we don't think you should punt for this 4K model we tested - even if you lose the carbon fibre lid. Battery life isn't great so dropping to a 1080p will help and the image will still be crisp enough for day-to-day tasks unless you need a higher resolution specifically for design work. This will also make the X1 more affordable, even cheaper than some rivals. Dropping to a Core i5 processor will also save you money and while still provideing enough performance for mainstream tasks. The X1 Carbon lives up to the ThinkPad’s famous name, just pick the right model.

The Gen 7 14” ThinkPad X1 Carbon is yet another amazing laptop in the ThinkPad series of laptops. It delivers in pretty much every area of importance for laptop users on the go. It’s slim, lightweight, and easy to carry as well as powerful, easy to use with an amazing display even if you’re getting the non-4K version.

Sure, it still leans on the serious side, and won't leave gadget fans lusting like a Dell XPS or Apple MacBook might, but it's almost so light you'll want to weigh it down in a breeze. That 4K screen can handle movie streaming and spreadsheets alike. It is mighty pricey in the top-spec configuration, though. If you want similar power for less cash, and even more style points, an XPS 13 is still your best bet.

I almost feel like there's no much I can say about the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, because it's so good, but it's always been good. When talking about a business clamshell that's thin and light, look no further. And it's even lighter this year at an incredible 2.4 pounds.

I really like Lenovo’s new Thinkpad Carbon X1 and I think it has it where it counts: the construction, the inputs and the multitude of screens and hardware configurations, among others. Compared to the previous models, this 2019 X1 Carbon 7th gen improves in the screens, audio and noise-levels, but settles for shorter battery life and some performance limitations in demanding loads. We'll talk about all these aspects in the review below.

Despite a smattering of small complaints, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is still a strong business laptop that will appeal to its diehard fans. The build quality, keyboard performance and battery life are all great, at least if you don't mind passing on the UHD screen. For its $1,200 starting price though, the X1 Carbon has serious competition from the likes of the Surface Laptop 2 and Huawei Matebook 14. But Lenovo's appealing keyboard alone may just keep its fans coming back for more.

Overall, in the past few days of using the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon, I’m more than thrilled with the sum of all the smaller updates. Together, they add up to a better experience, but the question remains: is it worth upgrading from the current X1 Carbon? To answer this question, stay tuned for SlashGear’s full review.

All in all, the 2019 X1 Yoga is a major update of last year’s generation and I’d expect to catch a lot of attention later in the year, when shipping. Just like the Carbon variant, it’s scheduled for June 2019, with prices starting at $1929.

But no feature matters if you don’t have enough power to run it. The gorgeous 4K display may make up for years of lifeless, matte ThinkPad screens, and I absolutely love using it while plugged in. But the toll it takes on battery life should make you reconsider 1080p, especially if you're frequently on the road. While we’re still awarding the 7th Gen an Editor’s Choice, we’re also knocking it down to four stars, from the five we gave to the prior generation.

The seventh-gen Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a best-in-class ultraportable that combines premium design appeal with business-grade privacy and security features. The extra durability is certainly nice to have on something so thin and light. You'll just have to pay attention to what configuration you go with to get the best battery life possible. The same goes for its privacy features -- PrivacyGuard and PrivacyAlert -- which are optional.

Whether you're a business user or an everyday consumer, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is an excellent choice. The latest version of Lenovo's flagship ultraportable has a superlightweight chassis that's as durable as it is gorgeous. Both 4K and 1080p display options are bright and vivid, and the X1 Carbon is powerful enough to run anything you throw at it as long as it doesn't require discrete graphics. Battery life is also good, as long as you choose the 1080p display over the short-lived 4K option. Despite all of that deserving praise, you probably shouldn't buy this ThinkPad X1 Carbon. At least, not today. Lenovo has already announced that it will bring 10th Gen Intel CPUs to its latest flagship ThinkPads. The new chips are expected to bring a nice performance boost on top of Wi-Fi 6 and integrated Thunderbolt 3 support. If you can't wait until then, don't sweat it -- the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a fantastic business notebook and one of the best laptops, period.

Compared to last year's model, the new generation of ThinkPad X1 Carbon is more evolution than revolution, but last year's system was pretty great. Of course, most folks aren't replacing their $2,000 laptop annually, either. However, if you've been clinging to an older business-class laptop and didn't just jump straight to the conclusion of this review, you probably already know what we're going to say. If you want a no-compromise ultrabook, you can confidently pick up a 2019 Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and not look back.

So, the bottom line is, that if you are a person that can afford to have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen and you are coming from another brand of laptops, you should go for it. On the other side, if you would like something more stylish and with more graphics power – the ZenBook 14 UX434 can do the job for you. Also, it is worth checking out the Acer TravelMate P614, that we reviewed quite recently.
