The new MSI Vector GP66 laptop series is one of the more surprising newcomers to the world of gaming, somehow managing to balance performance and affordability in a world where we're becoming accustomed to good products costing an unreasonable fortune – but that doesn't mean this laptop is without fault. It's packing an impressive set of hardware capable of competing with some of the best gaming laptops from Razer and Lenovo while simultaneously cementing its place as arguably one of the best MSI gaming laptops available. The Vector GP66 comes equipped with top-of-the-line components: the latest 12th Gen Intel processors, an Nvidia RTX 30-series graphics card and up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. As is typical with gaming laptops, models appear to vary depending on region, but MSI has a well-balanced selection to suit those who need a relatively affordable, bare-bones machine and an ultra-powerful beast. However, the inclusion of the Intel Alder Lake CPU and a power-hungry 150W GPU means that this gaming laptop will likely be tethered semi-permanently to a power socket due to its shockingly short battery life.

The MSI Vector GP66 is one of the best gaming laptops around by 2022 standards. Which is almost a given: as soon as you stick an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 inside a laptop chassis that's pretty much a guarantee. And its performance really impresses. What might particularly attract you to this laptop, however, is its compact and understated design. Sure, it's bulky by general laptop standards, but as gaming laptops go it's got more portability than most of its direct competitors: and you can pull it out at a coffee shop or in an office meeting without attracting too much attention. On the downsides list, however, the Vector GP66's battery life is pretty woeful, and we find the trackpad a little small for our preferences. MSI has a lot of experience in the market and has produced another polished, appealing product in the Vector GP66. This laptop will have plenty of appeal for a number of gamers... well, at least those who can afford it.

One thing is true – the Vector GP66 is made for productivity and gaming. There is no doubt about that. The notebook has just become the best performer in the history of LaptopMedia when it comes to computational performance. The main culprit of that is the cooling solution, which lets you squeeze as much as you can from the Core i7-12700H. Graphics performance is also something MSI can boast of. The RTX 3080 can utilize its full 150W TGP limit. This will allow you to play pretty much every game, even at 1440p. This means you can take full advantage of the display as well. Speaking of which, MSI Vector GP66 (12Ux)’s IPS display has a Quad HD resolution, good contrast ratio, comfortable viewing angles, and a non-flickering backlight. Moreover, it covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut. Its color reproduction is very accurate in both the sRGB and the P3-D65 spectrums, thanks to our Gaming and Web design profile. Last but not least it has a high refresh rate of 165Hz, which is combined with a crazy quick pixel response time.
