Reviews for the Motorola Edge+ 2023

So, should you buy the Motorola Edge+ 2023? If you’re after high performance, a vibrant display, and excellent battery life at a competitive price, this phone is a strong contender. Of course, the problem here is that phones like the Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 cost the same and have better cameras. The Moto Edge+ 2023 is a solid phone, one of the best we’ve seen from Motorola in years. But the drawbacks of this phone – versus its relative price – mean it is hard to recommend over a similarly priced phone from either Google or Apple. Motorola’s cheaper phones have decent USPs. They’re cheap and run great. But it is harder to make a flagship phone compelling. Life’s tough at the top. You cannot afford any weak links. Sadly, the Edge+ has just a few too many to get our seal of approval over something like the Pixel 7 or OnePlus 11.

One final rival for the Edge Plus (2023) to tackle is Google’s Pixel 8 Pro ($999 at Amazon). In fact, the Edge Plus (2023) is probably closer to the premium Pixel than it is to the vanilla model. Both phones share nearly 6.7-inch displays, though the Edge Plus has the faster refresh rate and curves on all four sides. Google’s rounded edges and soft-touch glass back give the Pixel 8 Pro a better feeling in the hand, too. While you get a wide, ultrawide, and telephoto trio on both devices, the Pixel 8 Pro is a clear winner in terms of zoom capability and image-processing power, you’ll just have to live without the in-depth manual controls that Motorola offers.

Overall, the Motorola Edge Plus 2023 smartphone is not a bad deal for users who are looking for a stock Android experience with better battery life and fabulous display quality. Not to forget, the Motorola Edge Plus 2023 is powered by the Snapdragon Gen 2 chip and offers a pretty solid matte black design layout. It got a better design, built, display, powerful chipset, state of art photography, and long-lasting battery. We have always been a fan of Motorola phones, but they almost every time fall behind our expectations. Hopefully, that’s not the case with the Moto Edge+ 2023. It got everything that is needed inside the flagship phone in 2023. The device can certainly fulfill all your expectations be it performance or photography. Presence of fast wireless and reverse wireless charging support add to the benefits of having this device.

If Google, Samsung, and OnePlus aren't doing it for you these days, I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by the experience Motorola has cooked up here. Excellent performance, a quality display, and a slick — in more ways than one — design makes for a solid smartphone, and the $800 price point for a single 512GB tier is hard to ignore. It's not cheap, per se, but as an unlocked device, it manages to undercut the competition by a couple of hundred dollars. Obviously, this phone isn't perfect. The camera is competent — certainly a step above other recent Motorola phones — but it fails to reach the highs of what you'd expect from a modern Android phone, especially once you swap lenses. Likewise, readers have plenty of reason to be suspicious of the company's software policy; its poor reputation in that area precedes it.

The Moto Edge+ (2023) is an excellent flagship. It offers a gorgeous design, a beautiful display, superb audio, top-notch performance, solid battery life, and a delightful user experience. Other than the cameras – which are competitive but leave some room for improvement – there’s little else to fault here. For the first time, Motorola’s taken one of its best global phones (the Moto Edge 40 Pro) and brought it to North America unmolested. Plus at $799, the value proposition is hard to beat. The Moto Edge+ compares favorably with Samsung’s smaller Galaxy S23 ($799) and beats the more affordable OnePlus 11 5G ($699) with features like 4k selfie video and wireless charging. Yes, Google’s Pixel 7a ($499) and Pixel 7 ($599) are also worth considering, but fall short on performance. Plus the Moto Edge+ comes with 512GB of storage, vs. 128GB for the others. So, in the end, we highly recommend the 2023 Moto Edge+. It’s available today from Motorola, Amazon, and Best Buy for $799.

Motorola has done a remarkable job of turning its Edge+ lineup around, from the mess of last year's phone to the brilliance of this year's model. This phone is a real winner, from the performance to the battery life, quick charging (with included brick), and the excellent camera. Plus, the design is obscenely gorgeous and is actually IP68-rated, unlike last year's phone. The camera is mostly great but a few strange shortcomings prevent it from being better than it should be. Zooming in past 2x has substantial diminishing returns and video recording is best kept at 1080p so all the features can be used. So long as those aren't deal-breakers for you, though, this is a superb choice at $799. Plus, I can't personally be happier with the display. In a world where so many OLED displays push the limits of display quality without thinking of the human eyes that have to view it, it's nice to see Motorola implementing vision-protection standards that make a real difference.

There’s no doubt that the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) is one of the best Motorola smartphones in years — if not the best. Motorola’s been trying to crawl back into the flagship race since it launched the first Edge Plus in 2020, and while that first model was a good phone for the time, all attempts to follow it up have felt misguided in different ways. Just about everything I want in a high-end Android phone is here. The Edge Plus looks and fees great, the display is outstanding, performance is rock-solid, the software is organized and helpful, battery life is phenomenal, and it doesn’t take too long to get the phone back to 100% when it does eventually die. The best part? You get all of that for hundreds of dollars less than similar phones from Google and Samsung.

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) is clearly Motorola's best attempt yet at building a premium phone. But is that enough to make you choose this device over more established competitors? Ultimately, I'd have a hard time picking Motorola's phone over the Galaxy S23 Plus, Pixel 7 Pro or even the OnePlus 11, as those phones offer cameras that perform a little bit more consistently than the ones on the Motorola Edge Plus. When conditions are right, Motorola's phone can capture images that hold their own against any top camera phone. But there are too many instances when post-processing goes awry, and the portrait mode on the Motorola Edge Plus doesn't impress as all. That shouldn't detract from the things Motorola gets very right with this phone.

The Motorola Edge Plus is the latest premium smartphone aimed at the US, and an all-around upgrade on last year's Edge Plus. With its big battery and competitive price, Android fans have another top-tier contender to consider when phone shopping. Motorola has refined its premium phones under Lenovo over the years, adding some features and taking others away in an effort to find the right combination that will appeal to top-tier phone buyers. The newest Edge Plus is the best combination so far. But it's also not exactly the same phone sold around the world, since Motorola releases slightly different versions in different regions. For instance, the Edge Plus available in the US is virtually identical to the Edge 40 Pro in Europe and elsewhere, but has a larger battery and more modest recharging speed.

Together with the recently released ThinkPhone, Motorola has renewed its competitive flagship roster. The Moto Edge+ packs snappy performance, above-average cameras, and excellent battery life into an appealing $800 package. The Edge trounces the Pixel 7 Pro in raw power, produces clearer shots than the OnePlus 11 5G, and far outlasts the Galaxy S23 when it comes to battery life and charging speeds. It's the most of nearly everything you can get in an Android phone for well under $1,000, earning it our Editors' Choice award. If budget isn't a concern, however, the $1,199 Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra remains our top pick for high-end handsets due to its incredible display, top-notch cameras, and class-leading software upgrade commitment.

The Edge Plus is closer than ever to being a true flagship contender, but it needs something to push it into the spotlight. The foundation is there: excellent battery life, a lovely big screen, a good camera system that’s occasionally great, and user-friendly software. And I think there’s a place for this device with the Motorola faithful looking for an upgrade-worthy phone right now. But without that little extra something — and Edge lighting ain’t it — and especially without the big carrier freebie deals, this generation of the Edge Plus is destined to remain overshadowed.

Overall, this phone is generally frustrating. While the hardware is great, and the software is right there with it, the cameras are extremely disappointing, and there are a lot of small points here and there that seem to indicate a lack of attention to detail — such as the UI hiccup with face unlock. Still, what Motorola is offering is not completely crazy. This is still a powerful flagship with half a terabyte of onboard storage for a penny less than $800. That's not bad, but there's a lot of competition at that price point that may not give you that much storage but will be as good or better in every other area. When pitted against the OnePlus 11, the Samsung Galaxy S23, and even the iPhone 14, there are enough minuses here to recommend taking your money elsewhere.

The Motorola Edge Plus 2023 is one of the best phones Motorola has designed in years, packing in bleeding-edge specs, a killer 165Hz OLED display, and rapid charging times. But is it any good? Motorola, as a brand, is largely best known for its mid-range and budget offerings. In the US, where the phone market is devoid of cheap Chinese phone brands like VIVO and RealMe, Motorola – alongside Samsung – provides the only real supply of cheaper Android phone options.

The Motorola Edge+ (2023) is a real contender among flagship smartphones: at a price of just under $800/€900 and a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, along with 8/12 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of storage, as well as a 6.7 OLED display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz. The Lenovo subsidiary delivers across the board in terms of performance. If you look really hard for negative points, you will find them in the camera performance, which is not quite on the same level as the competition in night photography and the telephoto camera. The battery capacity of 5,100 (4,600 mAh) is not only competitive compared to the competition, but it also outperforms the competition in the "PC Mark Work 3.0" battery test. On top of that, Motorola includes a 68-W Turbo Charger in the box, which pumps up the smartphone from 0 to 100 percent in just under 30 minutes. The update guarantee, a slim Android 13 without bloatware, and great "Moto My UX" and "Ready For" features make the Motorola Edge+ (2023) a real alternative in the flagship segment.

In a few weeks, I’ll put this handset through its paces and compare it to Samsung’s and Google’s phones and see whether its pricing is worth the money in your wallet. While I’ve reviewed the top Android devices in the Canadian landscape for the past couple of years, typically, I’m left unenthusiastic about the dullness of the marketplace. While Motorola hasn’t disappeared like Sony and LG, it has definitely taken a back seat for a while, especially considering some of its devices don’t launch in Canada or arrive later than in the U.S. However, I’m looking forward to testing Motorola’s new flagship, and it’s great to see that it launches in Canada at the same time as the U.S. Edge+ (2023) may not be for everyone; however, it could possibly be the Android for me.

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) is the latest flagship handset from a phone maker that may be better known for its midrange and budget offerings. This phone looks to change that with improvements to the Edge's design, display and camera array aimed at better challenging handsets from Apple and Samsung. Improving on the Motorola Edge Plus (2022), this year's model upgrades to a 165Hz refresh rate, more premium materials, and a versatile telephoto lens for portrait photography. Shipping as an Android 13 phone, the Edge Plus could be one of the best Android phones Motorola's yet made. I went hands-on with the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) ahead of the phone's official reveal today (May 2). Here are my first impressions, plus what you'll want to know about price and availability.
