Motorola hasn’t reinvented its mid-range smartphone option, but it has refined it with an extremely lightweight body and an improved camera. The brand’s unique 144Hz display and super-clean software also help the Edge 30 stand out from the crowd, though concerns over stamina prevent a clean sweep.

When it first landed, the Motorola Edge 30 had no shortage of competition, so the firm’s recent decision to slash the starting price seems like a sensible one. Instead of butting heads with the Google Pixel 6a, Nothing Phone 1 and OnePlus Nord 2, it now has a bit more breathing room. For anyone with a firm £300 budget, there’s lots to like. It has a stellar screen for the price, ample performance and a wonderfully slim build (even if it is entirely made from plastic). The main and ultrawide cameras can snap a good photo too – if not quite on the level as some of the rivals it was originally pitched against. Battery life is also merely OK, with the firm’s own Moto G82 having it beaten by a fair margin. If prices return to the original £380 RRP, we’d suggest heading elsewhere – unless having the skinniest smartphone possible is a big deal to you. While the discount remains in place, though, it’s absolutely worth a look.

The Edge 30 is a reminder that phones can be, well, thin - it's so lightweight but still has a great display. Performance is solid but there are a few small features missing, and we'd have loved to see better camera performance. Still, if you want a light and slim phone this is a great mid-range contender.

The Motorola Edge 30 has stiff competition in the UK, coming in at an almost-identical price to the OnePlus Nord 2T and the Nothing Phone (1) – but there’s a lot to like about Motorola’s latest mid-ranger. Essentially, it comes down to what’s best for your needs; if you prioritise design and display, the Motorola X30 Pro is a great choice. But, if things like performance, battery life and fast charging capabilities are what’s most important, there are better mid-range phones available.

Motorola's Edge 30 is something of a mixed bag. It's very slim and light, with the 144MHz AMOLED screen the star of the show, along with decent mid-range performance. It looks smart enough, although the build quality reflects its affordable pricing. Other trade-offs include the lack of MicroSD storage expansion, moderate battery life and so-so cameras – especially in low-light conditions.

The Motorola Edge 30 smartphone can consider a flagship killer smartphone as it provides that describes a flagship killer phone. The device good smooth refresh rate display, gaming-centric performance, brilliant screen experience, stereo speakers, and a high-end camera setup. It has everything that incredibly attracts users who are looking for a value-for-money phone. On the other hand, the chipset might not be powerful and fast as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips. But still, you won’t face any issues in the overall user experience. Despite this, Edge 30 is a great deal for your money. Aside from this, if you are looking for a better version of this phone, you can check out the Motorola Edge 30 Pro smartphone. This handset has all of the characteristics needed in the flagship phone.

The Moto Edge 30 is a good device but needs some refining to justify recommending the device to anyone. Yes it runs stock Android with some Moto touches and the cameras does deliver reasonable results. At this price point it feels like the Moto Edge 30 is slightly underdone. Perhaps this something that could be addressed with a software update. There are some areas that will probably push some users to different devices but if these aren’t a deal breaker for you, then the Moto Edge 30 could be for you. If you do choose to take a closer look the Moto Edge 30 is available to purchase from today in Meteor Grey from the usual retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Big W, Mobileciti and the Lenovo online store and from Vodafone from June 14 for $699.

The Motorola Edge 30 is a phone you should consider if you are looking for a solid mid-ranger under the price of Rs 30,000. The phone is recommendable and can put many flagships to shame. It is good to see that Motorola for the first time has diverted all its attention toward the design of the phone. The device is not only the thinnest phone in the world but also offers a great in-hand feel, it is extremely lightweight too. The 144Hz display is the icing on the cake at this price and the clean UI with promised upgrades to Android 14 will give you more reasons to consider this phone in the mid-range segment. The cameras also do a decent job and in a long time, the low-light performance of the Edge 30 does not feel tacky. The battery for its size also does a good job. Performance-wise, the phone uses a Snapdragon 778+ chipset that manages basic usage well. But if you want a phone for gaming or video editing or any related heavy tasks, you should look for options in Xiaomi or OnePlus.

The OnePlus Nord 2T is another alternative to the Motorola Edge 30. It is a bit cheaper, offers similar performance, but has worse cameras and display. So again, it’s a no-no. And what about Motorola’s own Edge 30 Pro? What’s so Pro about it compared to the Edge 30? Well, I’ve been asking myself this question ever since I got the non-Pro model. The Edge 30 Pro offers better performance but is almost twice the price of the Edge 30. Its camera performance is very similar, both haptics and audio output are also close, and the screen, except for the fact that it is bigger and has an LTPO panel, doesn’t bring that much more to the table. If you’re into games, the Edge 30 Pro is the way to go. For anyone else, I believe you are better off not spending all that money and getting a phone that is both cheaper and prettier, and the Edge 30 is exactly that.

Motorola has clearly prioritised design over everything else on the Edge 30, and if this is something that ranks high on your must-have list, you'll find this phone very appealing. Another area where the Motorola Edge 30 continues to deliver the goods is in software. The UI is clean and free from excessive bloatware apps and with a promise of long-term Android updates from Motorola, the Edge 30 should age quite well. However, the Motorola Edge 30 isn't a major upgrade over its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 20 (Review). If you were expecting wonders from the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC then you'll be disappointed to know that it doesn't really offer a huge improvement over the Snapdragon 778G. The cameras are good for the price but the output, especially recorded videos in low light, is still a bit behind the Edge 30 Pro despite having similar hardware. Overall, the Edge 30 is a good choice for those who value design and prefer stock Android. If you are a power user who wants better performance, the OnePlus Nord 2 (Review) or the Xiaomi Mi 11X (Review) should suit you better.

Trying to ace the spec sheet makes the Motorola Edge 30 struggle in most areas. With this phone, you get a decent design and overall performance, but the phone fails to impress with its camera output and battery backup, especially for the price it is being offered. The phone does bring the Snapdragon 778G+ 5G to India, and is slim and light weight but these things alone make it tough to ignore the competition in the sub- ₹30,000 smartphone space. When it comes to better cameras with fun modes, the Oppo F21 Pro and Realme 9 Pro+ can be considered as better options. For better battery life with fast charging, you can consider the likes of Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge, and Realme 9 Pro+. Even the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G is a good lightweight option to consider, especially with its 10-bit AMOLED display and the Snapdragon 778G chip. However, the Motorola Edge 30 offers one of the nicest Android experiences at this price range, and also one of the fastest chipsets in this segment. If you are seeking a solid Android experience with a powerful chip, and a good display, you can consider the Motorola Edge 30.

The slender, lightweight design of the Motorola Moto Edge 30, combined with a large crisp 6.5-inch display, is a winning combination. You also score plenty of premium features at a mid-range price point. The handset naturally cuts a few corners compared to the Edge 30 Pro, but thankfully those compromises don’t sting too much. While saving $300, you still get plenty of grunt and a premium camera – leaving you with with a solid mid-range handset which won’t hold you back or weigh you down.

The Motorola Edge 30 is an exquisitely built phone in terms of its overall aesthetics. However, the lack of a bigger battery capacity works to the detriment of the phone. It also doesn’t help that the performance, while fine for normal use, can throttle down due to the extremely thin design when the phone is stressed. On the positive side, its cameras work great in a variety of lighting conditions, the display is fluid and the software is clean as well. If these aspects appeal to you along with the svelte design, the Motorola Edge 30 might just be one of the best choices in the mid-range segment.

The Motorola Edge 30 was announced in April 2022 and the expected price of the phone is roughly $449 (Rs 34,500 in India) approx. As for the primary specs, you are getting a 6.5-inches AMOLED display panel with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate and Corning gorilla glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 6nm – Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G chipset that provides Adreno 642L GPU support. The phone runs on the latest Android 12 OS. in terms of optics, the Motorola Edge 30 smartphone has a triple rear camera setup including a 50MP primary, 50MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth lens for dynamic range photography. Apart from this, you will also receive a 32MP, selfie camera, while you can record 4K videos at 30fps with gyro-EIS support from the main camera. Furthermore, the device comes in a 6GB/8GB RAM option with 128GB to 256GB of internal storage. As for the color options, the Motorola Edge 30 comes in Meteor Grey, Supermoon Silver, and Aurora Green colors. The battery section brings a Li-Po 4020 mAh battery with a 33W fast charging support.

The Edge 30 has a 4,020mAh battery which is a lower capacity than average for smartphones these days. This was a conscious choice to make the phone this slim and light. However, Motorola is confident of its ability to deliver good battery life. It also comes with a 33W charger in the box. The Motorola Edge 30 runs Android 12 with Motorola's My UX customisations. Motorola does promise Android 13 and Android 14 updates for the Edge 30, along with three years of security updates. The UI is clean and easy to use. There are very few preinstalled third-party apps, all of which can be uninstalled. I think the Motorola Edge 30 is a stylish phone, and it will certainly attract buyers who are looking for something that's slim and light. It also has some interesting features and powerful hardware, potentially making it quite competitive in its segment. The Edge 30 will face stiff competition from the likes of Xiaomi, Realme, and OnePlus. I will be putting the Motorola Edge 30 to the test, so stay tuned to Gadgets360 for the full review, coming soon.
