In India, the budget smartphone category is very competitive and lucrative, with companies like Redmi and Realme attempting to deliver great specifications for less than Rs.10,000. Motorola has launched the Motorola Moto E7 Power in India, expanding its E7 smartphone lineup. Motorola E7 Power is the company’s latest entry into the entry-level market. The handset is the watered-down version of the Moto E7 Plus and is the successor to the Moto E7. Despite the fact that the E7 Plus was also launched with a price tag under Rs 10,000, it came with several interesting features, like the camera and Chipset. Motorola Moto E7 Power does exactly what it says on the box, and it does so wonderfully, but is it enough to differentiate itself from the strong competition in this segment? Let’s find out the answer.

The Moto E7 Power is not the flashiest of devices but for its starting price, you do get solid construction and a beefy battery that lasts a while. The daylight photography and a clean software experience with the promise of future updates are also some big positives of the device. However, a weak chipset and low RAM on the starting variant is not going to be conducive for anything more than basic smartphone usage. Charging speeds are quite slow while the night photography on the device will keep you wanting more. If stock Android is something you are looking for in your budget device then the Moto E7 Power deserves a closer look, but I’d suggest you consider the 4GB RAM variant which is priced at Rs 8,299.

Motorola’s Moto E7 Power will compete with Redmi 9i, Poco C3, Realme C3, Realme C12 and others in the market, which are in a similar price bracket. Most of these phones have a 5000 mAh battery, except the C12, which gets a 6,000 mAh one. The Moto E7 Power on paper has a bit of an edge when it comes to the specifications, given the dual-rear camera and the Type-C charging.

Moto E7 Power can make for a decent daily driver if you are not looking for high-end features. If you only want to get the job done, this smartphone will not be a bad pick at all. However, if you are an occasional gamer or a photographer, this phone is not for you. At Rs 8,299, it comes with a modest spec sheet that will help users carry out their basic chores easily. But if you are looking for something more, spend some extra money and get the Moto G9 Power or the Redmi 9 Power.Live TV.

The camera system on the Moto E7 Power is also quite basic, as expected. There's a 13-megapixel primary rear camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. I'm not a big advocate of dedicated low-res macro cameras, but in this case, it's still better than having just a depth sensor. There's a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a surprising number of shooting modes, including a manual mode. Smartphones in this price segment generally don't have very promising camera performance, so I'm not expecting that to change with the E7 Power, but you never know.

The phone is neither too heavy to handle, weighing in at 200 gms, nor is too bulky, being 9.2mm thick. The matte finish also ensures that the phone does not become a fingerprint magnet, while the buttons are easy to locate and use. I like the Google Assistant button since it is placed out of the usual holding position. This means you won’t tap the button unnecessarily, though a few mistaps might take place inside that tight jeans pocket. Nevertheless, the Moto e7 power is a pretty promising option at Rs 8,299.
