Reviews for the Motorola Moto G Play 2021

The Motorola Moto G Play is a good phone for the money. You’ll have more than enough screen real estate for your favorite shows and some light games, and the Snapdragon 460 keeps lag to a minimum when used correctly. Motorola’s attractive design and Misty Blue finish are sure to catch your eye, even if the camera results don’t keep your attention for long. If you’re not sold on the Moto G Play, you might want to give the Nokia 3.4 ($179) or the Samsung Galaxy A12 ($179) a shot. They nearly match the Moto G Play on the spec sheet, and the difference might come down to which version of Android you like best. Another Motorola option worth checking out is the beefed-up Moto G Power ($249). It’s slightly larger with a more complete list of specs and a powered-up Snapdragon 662 chip.

If your relationship with technology is less complicated than those of us who spend hours each day of our precious time on this Earth staring at the little glowing screen in our hands, jumping between social media apps, and pushing our phone cameras to their limits, then you’ll get along fine with the Moto G Play. Just spare a thought for the rest of us, please?

At $169.99, the Moto G Play is a solid choice for budget shoppers who are willing to make a few compromises. It offers admirable performance, a bright display, and incredible battery life. In return for the savings, however, you’ll have to live with disappointing cameras, and a dated version of Android for the time being. If you’re willing to spend a little more, we think the Moto G Power (2021) is probably a better bet.

The Moto G Play is my favorite phone out of the 2021 Moto G family. I find it refreshing that it's not trying to scratch some specific itch like everything else that Motorola makes. With the Moto G Stylus, you're way better off with a OnePlus Nord N10 5G for $299, but the Moto G Stylus is a niche phone that gives you a pen. The Moto G Play is just a $169.99 phone and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Of course, this has the Nord N100 to contend with, which costs $10 more and has an extra gigabyte of RAM.
