Reviews for the Motorola Moto G8 Plus
The Motorola Moto G8 Plus is a midrange smartphone that wants to impress with its cameras in particular. Long battery life and a bright screen are other aspects that speak for the device, but there are also weak points. You can find out in this review whether it's good enough for a purchase recommendation.

The Moto G8 Plus brings more power to the table with a versatile camera system array, stereo speakers, minimal bezels and an efficient battery management system. It's a competent budget device, although it's got a few problems.

Strong battery life, refined design over its predecessor and ample performance show the G8 Plus has progressed. But while its problems are few and far between, the cheaper G8 Power delivers much the same (minus the 48MP camera) with better battery life for less - making that the Moto to buy.

The Moto G8 Plus is an interesting option for users looking for a near-stock Android experience on a budget. It brings all-day battery life, an interesting action camera setup, and reliable performance to the mid-range segment. However, devices by Xiaomi and Realme offer better hardware at the same price, which makes the Moto G8 Plus a tough sell.

Having said that, there are bits about the Moto G8 Plus that make it hard to recommend wholeheartedly. It's the display that has us put off the most, and the ultra-wide video camera doesn't really get us excited either. If you have the option to go for a Redmi Note 8T, which is cheaper, or the Realme X2, which is an overall better phone, you need to be seriously hung up on the G8 Plus' audio prowess to choose Moto.

The Moto G8 Plus is an excellent device when it comes to media consumption and battery life. It has very good stereo speakers, a solid battery life, a fine display and above all, a clean Android experience. Compared to Motorola One series models, the Moto G8 Plus is the best Motorola device out of all the available options in the price range.

Overall, I’d recommend the Moto G8 Plus to those who are looking for an affordable phone with excellent battery life, a user-friendly design, adequate performance for the price, and a clean Android experience. It could prove to be an excellent device for youths who like vlogging and filming stuff with the Action cam. If you’re looking to get a mid-range Motorola phone these days, this is the one you should be looking at.

The Moto G8 Plus is great in all the ways that modern Motorola phones are but doesn’t really move the needle towards a place where they can readily compete with the increased competition in this particular price-segment.

Overall the Motorola G8 Plus is a dependable day to day device that succeeds on most fronts. We never expect the G-series devices to be the most innovative or groundbreaking mobile phones on the market, but much like the 2004 RAZR, the dependability of these phones is what essentially makes them so popular.

If you have a Moto G7 Plus, or recent Motorola One-series smartphone then there’s little reason to upgrade to the Moto G8 Plus. But, if you are on an older phone, then it remains a solid mid-range Android phone that gets nearly all the basics right. The only serious shortcoming is that its camera could do with a little work and its RAM count is a little low by today’s standards.

Based on the performance, the Moto G8 Plus justifies its asking price of Rs 13,999. The phone has a good camera, a dedicated Action Camera, good audio quality, smooth performance, and long battery backup. There is a lot of competition in the under Rs 15,000 price segment, but Moto G8 Plus surely holds its own.

The Moto G8 Plus isn’t a bad phone. However, it is outpaced by the sheer number of excellent options available to buyers in the mid-range segment. Sure, it delivers a stock-like Android experience, but this isn’t a good enough reason for you to live with a sub-par camera and mediocre internals. Finally, toss in the inaccurate display and smudge-prone body, and the Moto G8 Plus just doesn’t come across as a very good deal.

At Rs 13,999, the Moto G8 Plus, bringing together the best of the Motorola One-series and Moto G-series smartphones, is a unique product in the midrange segment. You might like to explore this phone for its unconventional take on imaging, all-round multimedia capabilities, smooth performance and decent on-battery life.

The Moto G8 Plus delivers in principal areas like imaging, performance and battery life. It also brings a premium-looking design, a clean user experience and some smart modifications on top the Android experience to the table. The 48MP main camera offers a greatly-improved photography experience, while the Action Cam, with its ultrawide angle lens, grants the phone some impressive cinematography skills too. Add to that a big battery with fast charging and decent mid-range performance, all for less than its predecessor and the G8 Plus is a tempting offering indeed. At least it would be if it weren't for the aggressive competition from the likes of Realme, Xiaomi and beyond complicating matters.

Motorola has made a competitive smartphone that can take on to competition without much effort. The company has done the basics right by at least offering latest specs, multiple-camera setup, wide-angle video recording while holding the phone in portrait mode, dual speaker setup, which is loud and clear and a relatively better processor, which is powerful enough to handle most day-to-day tasks.

Even so, there's a lot more competition at this more affordable end of the smartphone spectrum than there was when the G series was in its infancy. If you're happy to spend only a little more (and put up with a heavily customised version of Android), the Xiaomi Mi 9T packs in a bit more bleeding-edge tech for your cash, and the Honor 20 Lite gives camera fans a bit more flexibility for stills shooting. Not quite the default option under £250, then - but you'd be foolish to leave it off your shortlist.

Strong battery life, refined design over its predecessor and ample performance for the price put the G8 Plus in a great spot. Its problems are few and far between, with only the increasingly strong competition putting a question mark over this handset as taking the affordable phone king crown.

All things considered, the Moto G8 Plus manages to pack in a decent set of features, with its strengths being the lean Android experience, very good stereo speakers, solid battery life, a crisp display, and above-average camera quality when shooting in daylight. Compared to Motorola's One series models such as the One Macro (Review), One Action (Review), and One Vision (Review), which all hover within the same price range, we'd pick the G8 Plus for its better display and slightly faster SoC.

This is tricky to answer. So far, we have established that the Moto G8 Plus is an overall good daily driver and it nails the essentials well. It has got fast performance for daily tasks, a pair of good cameras with an impressive night mode, an all-day battery life even with heavy usage and big colourful display. If you aren't a power user, the Moto G8 Plus fulfils all the basic needs one expects from an affordable smartphone.

While there's a lot of testing still to do to assess everything that the new Moto G8 Plus has to offer, the fact that it all comes in cheaper than the phone it replaces - while upgrading in a number of areas, is a really aggressive move from Moto. This could very much become the defacto affordable phone of choice for many. We like Moto's clean Android experience, we think this is a good looking phone and we think you get a lot for your money. We'll be working on a full review of this phone and we'll update as soon as we can.

The Moto G8 Plus is a fairly unique piece of hardware in a highly competitive space. The action camera on the back is a great addition that makes a lot of sense for users. It’s a shame it can’t be used to capture photos as well. While it is too early to form an opinion on battery life, recent Motorola phones have done well here and the 4,000mAh battery should definitely help with all-day usage. Add to that the reasonably good performance and near-stock build of Android, and you are looking at a solid entry into the mid-range space.
