But when we tried to flick between tasks as we habitually would, the Nokia 2 didn’t feel so much like it was multitasking as tendering its resignation, getting its P45 and sending off its CV for the next job. Even the cheaper Vodafone Smart N8 is faster, and the Nokia 3, is faster still. There’s slow, and then there’s too slow.

Overall, the Nokia 2 does the brand no favours. The processor/RAM combination delivers disappointing performance, while 8GB of internal storage means that many users will have to buy a MicroSD card, adding to the outlay. If your budget for a smartphone is around £100, you'd do well to shop around: at the time of writing, I found the superior Nokia 3 on a well-known auction site for less than that, for example.

Cheap phones can be great, but the Nokia 2's poor performance and seriously lacking storage makes it a real pain to use.

The Nokia 2 is another cheap, well-built handset from the resurgent Finnish brand, but it simply doesn’t achieve the minimum level of performance that we expect from a modern phone.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Nokia’s 2 enticing price, pleasing build quality and attractive screen. Pure Android is always appreciated, especially when it comes to minimising bloat, but scratch the surface and this device loses a lot of its appeal.

HMD Global strives to bring back Nokia’s glory days, and the Nokia 2 delivers for a good number of reasons. It is one of the company’s longest-lasting devices in terms of battery life, and it brings back what’s amiss to entry-level smartphones nowadays: great build and aesthetics with top-notch software and consistent updates. Add to that a good display and a dedicated microSD card slot, those are already good charms for an entry-level device when its contemporaries are not as frequent in updating their affordable smartphones and leave the user stuck with the same software all along.

It's not a bad phone, this Nokia 2. It's just that there's only so much you can do within a budget this tight. And Nokia did a lot, actually - for a phone this affordable, the 2 has a pretty remarkable display, great build, and awesome battery life.

A solid performer, albeit a little slow to use and will only suit those looking for a very basic, well-made Android smartphone.

Nokia 2 is a satisfactory mid-range device with all features. The only feature which disappoints us is its 1GB RAM which should be at least of 2GB RAM. We have tested this device and it is ready to use Furthermore it is available in very economical price.

The Nokia 2 is largely an unremarkable device. The promise of two-day battery life is appealing, but competition like Xiaomi has been doing it for a while now and with much more powerful hardware.

Overall, the Nokia 2 offers uncluttered Android experience in a smartphone that trades in extravagant innards for practicality and reliability. There’s a thoughtful design that works well in both form and function and a package that might be greater than the sum of its parts.
